How I spent National Running Day and My Birthday ( and Bart Yasso likes us)!

Hi everyone!  Did you have a great Running Day yesterday? I did. It was so fun having a birthday on national running day.  I got to see so many inspiring tweets and posts.

I'm going to share a little bit about how I spent my day yesterday.

1. First thing in the morning I got a package from Fed Ex.  I got some goodies from Runner's World to review which I will talk about later. I know it wasn't really meant to be a Birthday present, but it was kind of nice to have a box to open first thing in the morning.

Then I got this package from Altra Running.

                                                      Aren't these shoes adorable?

2. Then I worked on some blog stuff and gathered addresses from everyone who won prizes from the Scavenger Hunt. Even if you didn't participate in the hunt, you should really go check out some of the cool pics these runners and walkers took of the unique items they found.

3. Talked to my BFF on the phone for over an hour. She called to wish me a Happy Birthday.

4. Okay, I finally got a round to go for a run. I wanted to wear something blue to match my new shoes, but I realized that I needed to do laundry. I settled on a cute purple outfit and wanted to wear my new Purple Bondi Band, but can you believe that I couldn't find it. I just had it for the post earlier this week. How could I have lost it already? In any case, I went with a hat, but I was so hot and sweaty that I could have still used the Bondi Band underneath the hat.
Don't forget to enter the Bondi Band giveaway or get a discount code for your own Bondi Band. You can do both HERE.

I got to my favorite park and it was invaded with kids. It must have been field day or something.
( There were actually a ton more kids off to the right playing volley ball but I didn't want to feel like a complete stalker taking pictures of them)

I did a full 3.1 miles. It was tough, it was hot, but I made myself finish. I deviated off my normal route and did a couple laps through the wooded trail. I never do this by myself. I sometimes do it with my dog, but really how well is a yellow Labrador going to protect me. But I did it alone today because it was just so hot and I needed the shade.
I would say this was my strongest run since my injury. My pace was a little over 10 minute mile, but considering the way I'm feeling with my hips and all, I was very happy with that. I can only improve from there.   I then logged my miles for the virtual race RnR series was putting on.

After my run I tried one of these new Power Bar  yogurt wafers. They actually weren't bad.

5. After I came home and cleaned up, my mother took me to our favorite cupcakery  ( yes, cupcakery is really a word) to get  a birthday cake cupcake.
This is actually birthday cake flavored. I have much restraint because I still haven't eaten it yet. I know, I'm shocked too!

6. I had made arrangement for a scuba diver to come to our home to check out our swimming pool this afternoon. We seemed to have a leek somewhere but couldn't tell where. This guy actually had on a scuba outfit and a tank and ended up finding the source of our leek.

The will make Baylee one happy dog now that she can go swim all summer.

7. I got to have dinner with my family later that evening. My sister Lacey (whom I blog with) could not be there but she sent me the most amazing gift!

This is for completing the Glass Slipper Challenge at Disney this past February. I love it.
Have you seen my race wall already? Where do you think I should put this?

And for no other reason than just to show something that made us smile, we got this tweet from Bart Yasso the other day.

Well, that pretty much concludes how my day went yesterday. A neighboring town was having fireworks this night and I debated on going to watch ( I never had fireworks on my birthday before). But then it got rainy so I just stayed home. Although I couldn't see any of them, I could still hear the booming of the fireworks from my house!

Thanks for letting me ramble on today.

Thank you all for the Birthday wishes yesterday!

How did you spend National Run day? If you went for a run, I'd love to hear about it.

  6. Sounds like an awesome birthday! That cupcake looks really good too, I don't know how you haven't eaten it yet. I would've saved it for after dinner, then inhaled it.

  13. Sounds like you had a great birthday! I wouldn't have been able to save that cupcake.

I did a tiny bit of speedwork yesterday, I'm running a half on Saturday so I didn't want to do too much, even if it was National Running Day.

I'm so glad you're starting to come back from your injury and feeling better on your runs. That's awesome that Bart Yasso tweeted you gals! I was only able to get in a littler over a mile on National Running Day, but it's better than nothing.
