In an effort to try all the Disney restaurants, Ale & Compass was on our list to try next.
Ale and Compass is a table service restaurant located in Disney's Yacht Club Resort. It is not their signature "fancy" restaurant ( that would be Yachtsman Steak House and you can read our review about that restaurant
HERE).
This is a family friendly restaurant and the theming of it is "Coastal New England"
Here is a description from the Disney website:
Dine on New England comfort food and classic seafood dishes in a coastal-inspired restaurant that's reminiscent of a cozy lighthouse. This seaworthy spot is a comfortable place to relax and refuel before or after a day of adventure.
I personally found it to be a bit darker than what I prefer a restaurant to be (I had to lighten up the above photo). I didn't really get that coastal vibe here like I did at Narcoossee's.
I don't recall if we had reservations here or not, but we were seated right away.
Our server took our drink order and dropped off a basket of rolls. We looked over the menus some more. I didn't see anything I was really excited about. I heard this was a fantastic place to come for breakfast, but I hadn't heard any reviews about the dinner.
Here are the dishes we ordered.
Roasted Buffalo cauliflower with heart of Romaine and creamy ranch. These definitely had a kick to them.
A grilled shrimp dish with a crostini. I forget the name of this dish but the shrimp were great.

The Ale & Compass salad with shrimp. This was good as well.
I wanted to get a dessert but I didn't see anything on the menu that appealed to me at that moment, but I did remember seeing a Little Mermaid dessert back at the Beach Club Market quick service, so I went back to get that.
After eating the dessert, we took the boat to Hollywood Studios to enjoy the rest of the evening/night.
Final thoughts:
This is considered a family friendly restaurant, but I would not bring children here because the atmosphere is not what I would consider to be a "fun" one. I found the interior to be a bit dark and dreary.
For a better family experience, I'd suggest going to the
Cape May Buffet over at the connecting Beach Club Resort. Characters are not here for dinner ( only breakfast), but the atmosphere is bright and cheery here.
If you are a party of just adults looking for a nice sit down meal but don't want to quite splurge for the signature restaurant, this would be a good choice. This would be a nice place for a date night.
A unique thing about this restaurant is that it is open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, and each with a different menu.
Breakfast is from 7am-11:00 am
Lunch is 11:45 am-2:00 pm
Dinner 5:00pm -9:00 pm
The food was fine here, but I didn't care for the ambiance, and let's be real, people choose Disney restaurants based on the ambiance! If you want seafood and a more coastal vibe, I'd definitely recommend checking out
Narccoosee's over at the Grand Floridian resort.
When it's time for us to start our second round of Disney restaurants, I might consider us coming back here again to check out the breakfast.
Till next time ~M &L
