5 Summer Running Items I like (and one I'm giving away to you)

Hi Guys!
Did you all get your photos in for the #SummerRunHunt Scavenger hunt yesterday?   Thank you ALL for playing along! We had a lot of participants through both Facebook and Twitter and although we've been keeping track of all the entries from the beginning, we still need some time to go through the ones that came in last night.  We will post the winners later this week.

Today we want to share with you 5 items that we love for summer running.

1. I absolutely love running skirts from Runningskirts.com.  I didn't get my first running skirt until October of last year, so I didn't have it for summer running last year. I've already got so much use out of this skirt.
I love that it has compression shorts underneath.  It is SO comfortable that I admit that I've worn it even when I wasn't going for a run.
My favorite thing about the skirt is the pockets! I didn't realize how much I could fit in these pockets and the stuff stays put! I know you can't see it in the picture, put there are two pockets on this skirt. I put my key fob in one pocket and my phone in the other. At first I was putting my phone in the pocket vertically and the top of the phone would stick out of the pocket. I was always worried that it might fall out on my run so I was always keeping an eye on it. Just recently I discovered that since the skirt fabric is so stretchy, I could put the phone in the pocket horizontally and it fit perfectly and I could even Velcro the pocket close with no problem! Why didn't I think of that earlier!

I was so happy with my first Running Skirt that I purchased this one a bit later.

2. Another thing I gotta have for summer running are my headbands. I use all different kinds of headbands when I run ( of course they have to match what I am wearing). I'm pictured here wearing a band from Bondi Band. It says "Will Run For Boston" and I love the color! Bondi bands have a bunch of fun sayings on them. My favorite things about this band is that it keeps the sweat from running into my eyes on hot summer runs, and since it is wider than most headbands, it covers more of my head, protecting it from being burnt by the sun.

3. This hand held water bottle was another item I didn't have last year for summer running and I wish I did. This hand held bottle is contoured to fit your hand and the strap that you see here is padded so it doesn't irritate the front of your hand. There is also a zipper pouch on the other side. My phone doesn't quite fit in it, but it is perfect for keys or gummies, GU's and other fuel.  I got this bottle at the Wicked 10K expo back in October, but you can find it and more bottles at  Fuelbelt.com

4. I may not have kept myself well hydrated last summer but I certainly took care of my pooch!
I made sure that I took the water bottle for Baylee on all of our runs. It's a regular water bottle so humans can drink out of it too if they wish. But is also has a plastic trough like thing that flips out so dogs can drink the water out of it.
Here's Baylee drinking out of the trough while I squeeze the water out of the bottle. This idea is genius! Thank you to whoever came up with it.  This bottle can be purchased at PetSmart for less than $10.

5. I know I said this before and I 'm gonna say it again. I love these Olympus shoes! You may remember that I was a little hesitant about these shoes at first.  They are a super cute purple color, but they are kind of a goofy shape. (It's okay, I know my shoes look weird. but they are so comfy that I am okay with it). I was a little worried about having all that cushioning but the first time I wore them on the treadmill, I was in love with them. I instantly declared them "My Treadmill Shoes" and thought I would only wear them in the winter time. I recently started wearing them on my running trail and guess what? I love them there too.  So I guess they are now my Summer shoes and I'll have to get another pair for my treadmill runs next winter.  If you want to check out these shoes ( they come in different colors too), you can go to Altrarunning.com .   Actually, if you are interested in zero drop shoes, you should check out the website because I just noticed that they have some other new styles and also they have some of last years models on their close out sale.

Okay, so now that I showed you 5 things that I like for my summer runs, I'm going to give one lucky reader one of these items. Of course you won't get one of the items I actually showed here, you will get a brand new item for yourself. Just clearing that up!

I can't start the giveaway until tomorrow, so I will keep you in suspense until then.

Tell us one thing that you love for your summer runs!

  1. These are all great! And thanks for the summer scavenger hunt! I had lots of fun with it. As far as something I can't do without in the summer, it's nuun. It's so much more refreshing than plain water in the summer on a hot day.

    1. I love running skirts in general, but these are the first Runningskirts.com skirts I have owned and I just love how much stuff I can fit in the pockets opposed to my other skirts that have none!

  7. for me, sunglasses... comfortable ones that are light enough to not weigh down on my nose, or slip in the sweat... but heavy enough to stay put and not bounce around... that sun glare can be the worst

    1. Oh yes! I should have mentioned sunglasses. I got a good pair of running glasses last year at a race expo but I have found them to be a bit snug so I've resorted to just my regular Jacki O glasses! My sister picked up a nice pair of Nike running glasses and she loves them.

    1. That sounds really cool. you might want to try a Spi belt too. It's like a small fanny pack for runners. you can fit a lot of stuff in them. They are great for when your shorts or skirts don't have pockets.

  10. I LOVE Bondi Bands - they are seriously the best! I sweat like crazy in the Houston heat and humidity so it helps to keep all the salty sweat out of my eyes.

Love the running skirt! I'd like to try out one of their products.

  11. I love my Bondi band headbands and have a Nathan handheld water bottle that works for me. I have never tried Running Skirts, but really love Sparkle Skirts and Lululemon skirts. Both are pricy, but they are great especially the two way stretch Lulu Pacesetter for summer. It is very lightweight so that is great when the weather is really hot and sticky!

    1. I thought the Runningskirts were pricey too but I have found they are worth it. I am loving wearing running type skirts more and more. I need to check out those sparkle skirts.

  12. OMG! That water bottle is genius! It's kind of annoying to carry a bowl around. I'll definitely have to check it out. Your running skirts look super cute. I've never owned one, but I guess it'll change in the near future ahahah!

What do I love about running in summer? The most simple things! Feeling the wind on my skin, getting a tan at the same time, and VIEWS! Nothing can beat that :)

  16. I'm sad I missed out on the summer scavenger hunt! That sounds like it was fun :) I *love* that dog water bottle... what a great idea!

It may be pretty basic, but I've found that I love my running sunglasses... they've saved me from so many headaches due to squinting, and I'm very grateful for that!

  19. Well anyone who reads my blog knows I LOVE my runningskirts.com skirts!!! That water bottle for dogs is GENIUS!!! I'll have to tell my friend who runs with her dog about it! I LOVED the scavenger hunt idea! I tried to play along but didn't get far since I signed up late. ;-)

  21. Super cute running skirts!!!! That is a great waterbottle for dogs, I wish more people would do that! On one of the trails here that I do my long runs, I frequently see owners let their dogs drink straight from the water fountains they have for the runners and walkers out on the trails. Gross's me out when I see it:(
A lot of people love those shoes, but although I am sure they are great for some people, for me I can't wear them:( wearing zero drop shoes are actually the reason I have been injured and of running races for the past 17 months:( But many people like them, and have flatter feet than myself and can get away with wearing them without injury:)
Looks like you are going to be giving away some awesome items, pretty cool!!!

  22. My dog is too much of a water snob to drink out of doggie water bottles. She wants to drink out of a special thermos she has, and she doesn't drink out of the bowl we provide her. She is a riot :)

My favorite summer running thing... probably hats :) They are lifesavers!!!

  23. I've never worn a running skirt but those look super cute! My favorite summer running thing is all the extra sunlight :)

  24. Sunshine is what I love the most - I live in the Pacific Northwest, we've set records for the most rainfall each of the last four months. The last three 1/2 Marathons I ran were in driving rain and cold. Yesterday I got to run a 10K in the sunshine - it was pure heaven...

  25. I like headbands, but I personally need to wear a visor in the summer, otherwise I end up with a headache from squinting (even with sunglasses, I must have very sensitive eyes haha). Those skirts are really cute, and I love that water bottle for dogs! I need to get one for our puppies. I also love handheld water bottles – I use a 20 oz Nathan handheld in the summer.

  26. I've never run in a skirt, but headbands are are my lifeblood haha. Thanks for linkin-up!!

  27. I haven't tested out the skirt trend but I think I would love it with the spandex underneath! Also finding the perfect headband is clutch! :) Kels and I are on the same page ;)
