During one of our park hop days, we were about to throw in the towel and go back to our resort for a rest, but then we thought maybe we just needed some A/C and a good sit down meal.
We were already in EPCOT at this time, so we thought we would see if we could get into "Coral Reef".
They were just opening for dinner at 3:45 pm so it was not crowded at all when we arrived 4:30 pm.
Lacey had been here once before, but I never have. I haven't always been a huge fan of seafood so it didn't make much sense for me to come here. However, I really wanted to have this experience and thought I would find something on the menu I would find appealing.
As we entered the restaurant, it was like walking into a jewel box, or maybe a "treasure" at the bottom of the sea.
The light above sort of looked like jelly fish.
Then as we entered the dinning room, it was definitely giving "under the sea" vibes. It was as if we were stepping right in to an aquarium.
Check our the tile work on the walls and behind the tables, used to represent the the stones you would find in an aquarium. Then the ceiling and the floor both represent the water.
We did not have reservations, so we were very surprised ( and thankful) that we were seated right up against the aquarium. I totally loved this! Seabase/The living Seas is one of my favorite pavilions in Epcot. I could sit and watch the marine life in there for hours.
We hadn't even ordered food yet and already this was becoming a great experience!
On the table there is a card with a QR code on it. When you scan the code, it gives you a list of all the marine life you may sea in the aquarium and a description about them.
It was almost like a little scavenger hunt!
Soon the server came to take our drink order and present us with a basket of bread with butter. For our meal we decided to get the coconut shrimp and the shrimp scampi.
The coconut shrimp had a good flavor and the Mango Chutney added a nice touch.
The shrimp scampi was not what I was expecting. I was thinking it would be shrimp in a lighter scampi sauce with maybe olive oil and I thought maybe the pasta would be an angel hair or a thinner pasta. What we got was more of an Alfredo dish. The sauce was a thick creamy sauce and the noodles were thick fettuccine noodles. It was good, but it was a "heavy" meal. I found myself squeezing lemon on my dish just to give it that little bit of "zing" that a traditional scampi dish would have.
Surprisingly enough, as I was preparing this blog post, I went back to check the menu and the shrimp scampi was no longer on the menu, BUT shrimp fettuccine is. I am now wondering if it was shrimp fettuccine all along and it never got changed on the menu, and the waiter did not know it?
The prices shown here for the shrimp fettuccine and the coconut shrimp are today's current price. During the time we visited ours were a few dollars less.
You can see the rest of the Coral Reef menu
HERE.
Although the shrimp scampi was not what we thought it was, we still had a great meal.
Coral Reef also serves kids meals, cocktails and non alcoholic beverages and specialty drinks, as well as desserts.
I don't believe we even looked at the dessert menu because after dinner we would be going to Magic Kingdom and expected to get our dessert there. But as I was preparing this blog post I did take a look at the dessert offering and now I'm a little sad we missed out on the Key West Sunset ( Key lime tart) and the Pineapple Coconut bread pudding.
This is a place I would come back to again just because the experience is so cool!
Lacey has fond memories of this restaurant because she remembers it being feature on "Full House". Check out her first experience at Coral Reef

Till next time! ~M & L
