Coral Reef at Epcot

Coral Reef Restaurant at Epcot Disney World

One of the restaurants I've always wanted to visit at Epcot was Coral Reef.  I attribute this to seeing it on Full House back in the day. Does anyone remember that episode?

For as many times as we've visited Disney, I can't believe it has taken me this long to eat here.

We had a late reservation and didn't get seated till around 8:20pm. I was hoping for something earlier, but no luck.

When we first got seated, we ordered a bottle of wine.  We were given a bread basket, but we did not order any appetizers. Quite honestly, I wasn't even that hungry.  We had just spent the day eating and drinking around World Showcase ( it was during the Food and Wine Festival).

We ordered our entrees right away. We told the server as we were seated that we were hoping to be able to be out of dinner in enough time to be able to see the new fireworks show "Harmonious".   The server ensured us we would have plenty of time.  It took quite a while for the food to come out, which was surprising since we did not order appetizers.  The server kept ensuring us it would be right out.

I had the Seared Mahi Mahi with Jasmine Rice, Coconut and Cilantro-Lime Sauce, and Caribbean Shrimp Salsa ($32).   The food was very tasty, ( no complaints) but I feel I would have appreciated  it more had I actually been hungry.  Also, I felt sort of rushed while we were eating because I knew we wanted to be out by a certain time.

The atmosphere is really the show at this restaurant!  It is literally like dining inside an aquarium.  Unfortunately we did not see any scuba divers like they did on Full House.  The server told us that there are times that you might see people scuba diving in there (because they are cleaning).  He also told us that Disney is planning on bringing back the Scuba Diving experience here for guests.

The server here was great! He was very knowledgeable about all the fish and sea creatures in the aquarium.  Did you know that this aquarium in the Living Seas building is 5.7 million gallons?  It is one of the largest man made ocean environments on the planet!  It's home to over 4,00 sea creatures!

While we were there we saw multiple fish, stingrays, manta rays and sharks.

I really enjoyed the atmosphere here and would have wanted to stay longer to enjoy the experience, but we did want to get to the show. When we first sat down at our table, every table was filled, and by the time we left, there was only one other party still there eating.  I will use this as a reminder to not  make late dining reservations if I want to see a show!

When we left Coral Reef, Harmonious was just starting. We did get to see the show, but not from a very good standing point.  I guess there is always next time.  -L

This was just our experience at Coral Reef during this time.  We were not on the dinning plan for this meal.
