Remembering Be Our Guest restaurant at Magic Kingdom

Fairytales and Fitness Disney Blog

We did it! We've eaten at every table service restaurant in Disney's Magic Kingdom! This actually never became a goal of ours, but over time we realized that every time we visited Magic Kingdom, we ate someplace new.

This post is titled "Remembering Be Our Guest", because we actually ate here years ago ( pre-pandemic in 2019) but for some reason, we never blogged about it.  And of course to have our completed list of MK restaurants on the blog, we needed to add it!

We thought it was worth documenting, because a short time after our visit, things had changed.

When we visited in 2019, Be Our Guest or BOG was still a very popular restaurant, as it still is. Reservations were hard to get, but we ended up getting a lunch reservation. I did not book this 60 days or even 30 days out. I booked it while I was already at Disney, only one day before. I guess we got lucky!

Be Our Guest restaurant is located in the "New Fantasyland" and is sort of hidden, if you don't know it is there.

Disney Tip: Even if you are not eating at BOG, you can still walk in and look at the castle and take photos.  At least this was my experience.  During my most recent trip I was taking some photos of the outside ( for the blog) and a kind cast member said I could go in the castle!

Be sure to pay attention to all the details inside the castle.

If you are not waiting for your table and just get to walk right in, you may miss some of the fun props.

Once you get inside the castle, there are three main dining rooms. This has not changed. The dining rooms are:

The Grand Ballroom, with its high ceilings and chandeliers. This is where we sat for our lunch and the dinning room that they usually place guests in first. This is the largest of the dining rooms.

The West Wing, this is the Beast's study. This is the darkest of the dining rooms and although I've never been seated in here, I've read that taking photos in this room can be challenging.

The Rose Gallery, this room is full of art and displays the large figures of Belle and Beast dancing atop a music box.

You can request a certain dining room to sit in, but of course the West Wing and Rose Gallery may not always be available.

The food, and ordering options is what has really changed over the years.  When we visited for lunch, lunch was considered a "Quick Service" meal. This meant it was a la carte.  We could order as much or as little as we wanted. If I remember correctly, we actually ordered our meals on a kiosk before we walked into the dining room.  We got a receipt printed out and then we seated ourselves. like I mentioned earlier, we sat right in the main ballroom, probably because that was the closest.

Shortly after we were seated, a server must have collected our receipts so they knew what we ordered. A few moments later, the server pushed a fancy cart out with our meals on it.  The fact that we had a server bringing our meals out made it feel less like a quick service restaurant.

I ordered the braised chicken in red wine sauce with mashed potatoes and asparagus.  For a "quick service" this was a very good meal. But really, how can you go wrong with anything that comes with mashed potatoes. I do not remember what my mom and sister ordered, but I do remember them being happy with their meals. Because this was a "quick service" meal, I do believe they were each less than $15.

Dessert was not part of the meal, we did have to pay extra for it. My sister and I each got a cupcake. Mine was the Lemon Meringue cupcake and hers was the Strawberries and Cream cupcake. They were both fabulous. At the time, they also had "the grey Stuff" as an option. I wish I would have tried that, but I did not.

I think BOG as a Quick Service option is an excellent value. Let's face it, we go to most Disney restaurants because of the theming and ambiance, which Disney nailed here. Not only do you get to eat inside a castle, but the food was actually tasty too.

BUT NOW.....all that has changed.

Disney has caught on that guests want to dine at their theme restaurants no matter what the food options are, ( We've proved that by eating at Space 220...lol). So now the once affordable quick service lunch inside the Beast's castle is no longer an option. Both lunch and dinner are now a prix fixe menu.

This means you pay one price ($70 for adults and $41 for children), and you get to pick 3 options from the set menu.  You can see the most up to date menu and prices HERE.  There is also a menu at the hostess stand on the bridge before you enter the castle. This might help you determine if the price is worth it for you.

I have not eaten here since it became the prix fixe menu, but I have read many reviews where guests said they were disappointed in the food for the price point they were paying.  But again, the ambiance and theming come at a cost too.

I have a feeling that more Disney table service restaurants are going to go to this prix fixe menu. If people are going to dine at one of the themed restaurants, Disney wants to know they are going to get a set amount of money out of them.  Although this method probably makes good business sense, I don't like the idea of it.

I also want to mention that this is not a Character meal, but the Beast has been spotted a time or two. He just walks around. He does not visit each table for photo ops and autographs.

I'm really glad that we got to eat here when it was considered quick service because I definitely would not be drawn here at that price point  ( or would I)?

What do you think of Be Our Guest restaurant?

Till next time ~ M
