Olivia's Cafe at Disney's Old Key West Resort

Anytime you hear a Disney fan mention Old Key West resort, it is usually followed up by a comment about Olivia's Cafe, and how good it is.  We ate dinner here a few years ago with our parents. I don't remember what I ordered and it certainly did not make that much of an impression on me, but I was willing to give it another try.
Olivia's is the only table service restaurant at Old Key West resort. It is located right across from the lobby as you enter the resort. In most cases, you may want to make a reservation, but since it was just the two of us, we were able to get right in for brunch.

Breakfast/Brunch is from 7:30 -2:00pm and Dinner is from 5:00 pm - 9:00 pm.

There are menus located right outside of Olivia's so you can browse what they have to offer.

One of the unique things you will find before entering Olivia's , is the wall full of pictures. I got to talk to a cast member that shared the history of this wall. All of the pictures here are pictures of families that were all original owners of  DVC ( Disney Vacation Club) at Old Key West.  She showed me a picture of the very first family that bought in here at Old Key West.  All the photos were provided by the families over the years. Some families even come back and update their photos. The families provided the frames, but the cast member told me that over the years some frames have broken and cast members replaced them. This was a really sweet interaction with this cast member as she told me some stories about some of the families. It appears that a lot of families come back to this same resort year after year.

Okay, back to the restaurant.

There is outdoor seating on the covered patio, or indoor seating.

Since we were going to be outside at the park most of the day, we chose the indoor seating.

The decor hear is coastal/ fishing vibe.

The brunch menu is a mix of breakfast items such as omelets, pancakes, and eggs, and lunch items like salads, cheeseburgers, chicken, and tacos. They also have appetizers like soup and hushpuppies that I really wanted to try.  I ended up ordering the banana bread French toast with a side of bacon.

I had heard of the Tonga toast, which is banana stuffed, but I have never heard of banana bread French toast, so I thought that was unique. I was surprised to find that is was really light. I thought it would be dense, but it was not. The edges had what tasted like a bit of streusel topping on them.  The toast was topped with a Bohemian rum banana syrup, which just tasted like a lighter, sweeter version of regular syrup, and whip cream.  I had a choice of bacon or sausage and I chose bacon and asked for it to be crispy. I will tell you this was the crispiest bacon I ever had. Any crispier and it would have been burnt!  My sister and I laughed about how crispy it actually was, but I ate it and didn't complain.

Lacey got the buttermilk pancakes and eggs.  The eggs came in any form, and she chose scrambled. She also chose bacon over sausage and hers was crispy, but not quite as crispy as mine.  She got three pretty good sized pancakes.  This meal was good, but just your typical breakfast meal you could get at any restaurant, not really anything to brag about.

We did enjoy both out meals. We felt satisfied, but not overly stuffed. If you are going to Olivia's for brunch, I would definitely recommend the banana bread French toast. However, I don't think Olivia's is a must do.

They do have a  to go window on the other side of the building, near  Goods Food to Go.  I really wanted to try the hush puppies with the key lime sauce, but I didn't think it would go well with my French toast. I planned to get them from the to go window later during our stay, but I never made it there to do so.

Till next time ~ M and L
