Weekly Wrap...July 8

What a festive week it was! Actually it kind of seemed like a long week and I had to think back to what I even did in the beginning of the week and then I remembered we had that holiday thrown in right in the middle! I don't mind long weeks that feel long though. I wish I had more of them. I never want summer to end!

Here are some highlights from the week! The ones I can remember anyway.

Sunday I took the Pedal Boat out on the water with my aunts and uncle. They had never been out on the boat before and thought it was quite the workout! I let them pedal as I just cruised as a passenger! We cruised by my Pappy's house and picked my other aunt up along the way!  It took us over 2.5 hours to get to our destination but it was fun and we had a lovely view.

We started Wednesday (July 4th) off with a hot and hilly 5k race.  I think We'll do a race recap later this week.

As if we weren't tired enough from running in the heat, we then went on a family bike ride of 10 miles!  The weather station said we were going to get rain but we didn't. We were dry for all 10 miles!

Afterwards we had a large family picnic. I really wanted to be festive for the picnics this week so here is a sampling of my red, white, and blue foods I made.

And of course no 4th is complete without fireworks.

On Saturday it was less humid in the morning than it had been the past few days so I decided to take my running up a notch and run 5 Miles!

That's right, 5! I'm not even training for anything so I don't know why I did it excepts for the fact that I feel bad I hadn't done much running in June and want to change that for July. I've said before that running in the summer is a double edge sword for me. I have lots of time to run and go far, but I just don't have the energy to stay out that long in the heat.  I think I need to sign up for a race soon so I have a reason to get myself out there!

When I got home from my run, I finished painting my kitchen.  That's one more thing I can check off my list for this summer!

Any picnics, races, bike rides, boat rides or fireworks for you this week? -M

Thank you to Wendy and Holly for letting us share our week with them!

  2. Happy 4th of July!! Seems like you had tons of fun. I've never been to a Peddle boat either but it looks like a relaxing activity, specially with the amazing view around you.

  3. I can just tell how much you love the 4th of July from your post. :) My family is getting together for a late 4th celebration on the 14th. I'm excited to see them!

    1. I really do love the fourth of July. It's my favorite time of the year for so many reasons, the weather, family fun, Outdoor fun, and honoring the veterans ( my Pappy)!

  4. Looks like a fun holiday for all of you! We just laid low over here--my husband made pulled pork which was delish and I made peach cobbler. A southern meal made by us northerners. LOL

  5. I didn't do much on the fourth, but I did go watch my neighborhood's bicycle parade. It was fun seeing all the kids dressed up, and they all decorated their bikes for the holiday. I didn't do anything special for food since I'm still on pasta.

  7. I'm glad you didn't get rained on! I love how you added fireworks to the weekly wrap graphic - how festive. It was so hot here, I skipped my planned run.

    1. It was so hot here too. I'm glad that my family stuck it out for 10 miles on the bike. I thought for sure someone was going to bail.

  8. I'm really impressed you did a bike ride after the race! Seriously, I did very little after m race on the 4th. The heat this past week was so brutal (until the weekend).

All that lovely red, white & blue food -- I rarely get that creative with my food!

    1. We were actually going to swim too (which would have been a reverse triathlon...haha).

I love having an excuse to be creative with food! Pinterest definitely helps!

  10. I remember peddle boats from when I was a kid...they could be tough! We had a fun 4th of the July, but no fireworks for us in Hong Kong. Crazy right? haha

    1. Does Hong Kong have a day that they celebrate their country? If so when is that?

  11. Your festive food looks so delicious! Great celebration :) My husband and I laid pretty low on the actual 4th, that middle of the week made things tough for us as we had to work on the days surrounding it.

Strong week, keep up the good work!

    1. Thanks.

Yea, I can see where having a holiday in the middle of the week makes it hard for people to travel.

  13. Having the holiday smack dab in the middle of the week really threw me off - it did make the week seem a little longer. Love all of your red, white and blue food! Sounds like you had a great 4th!

  14. Having the holiday land in the middle of the week is nice to break up the work week, but it also messes with my mind LOL I kept thinking Tuesday was Friday, then I though Thursday was Monday...

  15. The midweek holiday was so confusing. Found myself saying have a nice weekend on Tuesday. Love your dessert spread too

  16. I love how you put the fireworks in the WW photo! Getting the family involved in activities is always fun. I haven't pedaled a boat in a long time but I do remember that it was veryhard work! You were smart to be the passenger. Nice job on the 5 mile run! Thanks for linking!

    1. Yes, Pedaling CAN be hard work. We got in some rough patches were I had to use the paddle and that was hard work too...haha

  17. You had a fun and productive week! That's a long time to be pedaling a boat! We were in FLorida for much of last week and the forecast showed rain every day but thankfully it only rained once overnight.

  19. Great week! I didn't host the 4th, so no cute themed foods for us, really. That's ok! I'll get it next year.

I had a race on the 3rd and then the rest of the week was devoted to the festivities and visiting with family. It was surprisingly low on miles, but I got a lot of activity in all the same.

    1. That's cool that there was a race on July 3rd. Sounds kind of funny having a race on a Tuesday but I see why they did it.

    1. It was actually pretty difficult because the walls were already painted white and I was painting them a slightly darker shade of white. It made it hard to determine where I already painted and where I didn't!

  22. I wanted to watch fireworks somewhere in Atlanta last week, but the race wore me out! We ended up having an early dinner and going to bed around 9pm haha. I guess my celebrating was done in the morning!
