This past week we were vacationing in Florida, and while we were there we decided to take part in one of Disney's new fun runs.
We had gotten information about the fun run just a few days before we were ready to leave and heard it was called the "Beignet Dash" so of course we had to make fun running outfits.
Okay, so here are the details if you are interested in this race.
It's called the Beignet Dash" fun run and it takes Place at Disney's Port Orleans French Quarter so of course there is a Mardi Gras theme to it. It takes place on Sundays.
We were told to be at French Quarter by 7:30 am for registration and the race would start at 8 am. When we got to Port Orleans French Quarter we were immediately impressed that the cast members there knew about the race and could direct us right where we needed to be.
The race was directed by the resort's recreation department (Erika and Carson) and they did a fabulous job. We filled out our paper work, paid (they prefer cards or magic bands to cash), and were given a resort themed bib to personalize.
After some jokes and a description of the course we were off. The race was only a 3K, but seriously that was the perfect distance for a fun run in this Florida heat and humidity.
We followed the path along the Sassaqoula river, ran through the Riverside resort, and crossed the bridge back to French Quarter.
The route was clearly marked with fun run signs and there were cast members at each turn cheering for us. Some of the resort guests may not have had any clue what was going on so they looked at us weird.
This race was was not timed, but as we crossed the finish line we were presented with a fun run medallion (and a bottle of water).
And of course no Disney race is complete without a character photo. This jester was so sweet and told us we just had to get a picture with him because he liked our outfits!
This run really was fun but what made it even better was at the bottom of our bib we had a ticket to redeem for Mickey shaped beignets at the Sassaqoula Float Works which was right around the corner. We never got a ticket to redeem for food during a Run Disney race. I've always said that I thought that was something Run Disney should be implementing.
This is a pilot program for these fun runs and they do have them occasionally at other resorts. Currently there is a week day run called the Derby Dash at Disney's Saratoga Springs resort and there was the Southern Most Race that took place at Disney's Old Key West resort but as of right now that is less frequent.
So if you are visiting Disney during a non race weekend this may be a good way to get in a little Disney running!
We will be linking up with the gals from TOTR.
How fun! It's been years since I've traveled to Disney. I know Disney's races are outrageously expensive, how much was this fun run?
ReplyDeleteI forget the exact amount but it was very cheap! But I'm sure as the popularity increases the price will go up!
DeleteOh, now that sounds like fun! You guys look adorable!
ReplyDeleteThanks Wendy! It was a nice way to spend a morning at Disney!
DeleteOh that looks so fun! And that is definitely the right distance for a hot Florida morning!
ReplyDeleteYes it is! I was happy to be done.
DeleteLOVE your race day outfits! This really does sound like a fun run!
ReplyDeleteThanks Amy! I was hoping maybe I could wear it again for a Halloween race!
DeleteHow cute is that race? A good way to stretch the legs before a long day at Disney.
ReplyDeleteWe always stay at Port Orleans so I would actually do that race:) Or at least cheer everyone on running by me :)
We actually ran this race AFTER we had been walking around the parks all day and all night...lol. Our legs were tired! Luckily I got to sit by the pool afterwards.
DeleteWhen I was down there for Star Wars, there was a sign saying that the Beignet Dash was canceled that Sunday due to the Half Marathon that was the same day. it looked like fun though.
ReplyDeleteYea, they do not schedule these resort races if there is an official run disney race going on.
DeleteFun! That path along the river at the Port Orleans resorts is really nice. Your shirts are so cute :)
ReplyDeleteIt made for a really nice run!
DeleteIf I were to travel to Disney, I would definitely want to do that race! It sounds like fun and hello, beignets! YUM!
ReplyDeleteI can't wait to see what other races they come up with at the other resorts!
DeleteLove the outfits! How can you not have fun with a Mardi Gras theme?
ReplyDeleteThanks Lesley! The outfits were fun to make.
DeleteThis resort is one of my favorites- LOVE these runs! And your outfits were adorable!!!
ReplyDeletePOFQ is not my favorite resort but it was fun visiting it for the race. Which run is your favorite?
DeleteThat looks like so much fun. I love the idea of a low key Disney race and who can turn down beignets???
ReplyDeletefor some reason I can't comment.
DeleteBut yes, I would have signed up for that race too. How fun!
A race named after Saratoga Races?? That is so cool.
Actually there is a entire Disney resort named and themed Saratoga Springs!
DeleteWow- Disney runs always seem like fun but i havent been to Disney in years! Love the outfits.
ReplyDeleteThese are great runs for people who don't want to make the commitment to a big Disney race. Of course you don't get to run in the parks but the resorts are lovely!
DeleteWell that sounds like a much more fun way to enjoy a Disney race!
ReplyDeleteYes, no 3 am wake up call either!
DeleteLooks like so much fun and I love your costumes! Interesting that Disney is testing a fun run concept. Wonder what else they have up their sleeve.
ReplyDeleteI think it's genius on their part!
DeleteSounds like fun! Your outfits are so cute!
ReplyDeleteThank you! I am surprised how well they matched the theme of the race!
DeleteHow fun...but if you want to go farther, can you run the course twice? (asking for a friend LOL)
ReplyDeleteI'm pretty sure that would be okay!
DeleteWhat a fun race! And you are right, 3K is a nice distance to run in that heat and humidity. You two looked so cute in your themed outfits!
ReplyDeleteThank you! I thought those outfits were fun and they match the theme so well!
DeleteI love this! We are staying a night at POFQ before our cruise and I was hoping to run this one, but we leave out on Saturday instead of Sunday. Bummer. Hopefully one day soon, though!
ReplyDeleteYes, definitely check it out sometime. You don't actually have to be staying there to participate.
DeleteI was kind of thinking a race? In FL? In SUMMER? Are you freaking nuts?
ReplyDeleteOk, a fun run. A short fun run. For Beignets! Yes, that actually sounds fun! Although they should start it earlier . . .
Even though it was a fun run, we ran hard the whole time! It was the perfect distance to do that and a treat at the end made it even better.
