A Mini Vacay

Last week I had a few days off of work so I went to Virginia Beach to visit some friends. I thought I'd share a few highlights for our Friday 5 today.

I didn’t get done working until very late the night before so I didn’t get on the road as early as I would have liked to the following day.

I didn’t arrive to my friend’s house until early evening. We hung out by the pool and then she made spaghetti with homemade meat sauce……delicious! We started to watch the 2nd season of 13 Reasons Why. I didn’t think I would like it but it has me intrigued and I will continue to watch it.

The next morning we walked the whole length of the boardwalk, then it was time for her to go to work and I was meeting another friend for brunch.

After brunch we went back to my friend's house and just caught up since we haven’t seen each other in a while.  We later met some other friends out for happy hour and then my other friend and I went to the Cavalier for dessert. This is pretty iconic for Virginia Beach. It was the hot spot back in the day and recently just got renovated and reopened. It is very nice!

The following day I met a friend for Top Golf. I have lived in this area for several years and have never gone. It was pretty fun. It was like a driving range that had different holes that were based on a points system. So it was a friendly competition.

Spoiler alert, I beat my friend! After golf we went to Y Not Wednesday. This is a summer concert series that goes on every Wednesday in Town Center. It is sponsored by a local pizza shop Y Not Pizza. There are beer and wine tickets you can also purchase.

After that, we treated ourselves to a Cold Stone waffle bowl!

The next morning we ran 11 miles in First Landing State park and then enjoyed some IHOP pancakes. It was such a fun week visiting friends. I just wish I could have stayed longer. There were many other things that I wanted to do and didn’t have time for.  -L

  1. Sounds like a perfect mini-vacation! I have been to VA Beach several times - always for races. There are several restaurants that we love to visit each time we are there. Your beach picture makes me want to go. Not sure if we will get to the beach at all this year! Hubby has used up all of his vacation days.! :(

  2. Sounds like a ton of fun! Our town has free concerts on Wednesdays too, but we've never been. Lately it's been too hot!

  3. Sounds like a fun little vacation. They are perfect for refreshing the mind! The concert sounds fun! Our town has free concerts but they don’t have beer! (My first comment seems to have disappeared, so I hope I’m not doubling up)

    1. It is such a process because you have to get ID and get a bracelet, then you have to buy the tickets, then you have to wait in line to get your drink.

  11. I tried Top Golf, and was awful! I realized my form was the same as the young girl in the group next to us. It was fun though, and I was a bit sore from the twisting whenever I hit the ball.

  12. I love VA beach! I had friends who were stationed there and one the weekends, we would drive up from NC and we had so much fun! Although, it was kind of annoying with all the AF aircrafts flying above. :) Looks like the mini vacay was a lot of fun!

  13. Sounds like an awesome mini vacation! I went to Virginia Beach in March for the Shamrock Marathon and loved the town - so much to do and great places to eat.

    1. Yes there is, but March is an awful time to go. It always seems to be a yucky weekend for Shamrock.

    1. It's probably my favorite beach. I am probably biased since I've lived there though.
