Tell us your Instagram Story

I started Instagram a few years ago but I didn't really start using it consistently until the last year or so. I can now say it is my favorite form of social media.

If you have been following @Fairytalesnfit you would notice that it was sort of a joint account between Lacey and I.  Lacey now has her own IG @Lacers02 so you can now follow her running and flying adventures over there but please stick around @fairytalesnfit to keep up Baylee and I. I've also been thinking of starting a second IG account about homeownership and decorating but I don't know if I'm ready to take the plunge with 2 IG accounts and how that will effect my logins and what not.
But this post is not about promoting ourselves on IG. No.

I want to learn about Instagram stories. What is the purpose of them?  Some people post videos on them, but you can post videos on your Instagram feed as well. Some people just post a picture. But what is the purpose of posting the picture on the story when you can post it in your feed as well?
I've heard that IG stories are only there for 24 hours and then they go away. Ok, what's the point of that?
But there has to be another side to that because some people have all these cute little icons on their account that house all their IG stories.

I am totally confused. Please tell me what the purpose of the IG story is and how it is beneficial. Should I be using stories?  I've scrolled through a few and so far it's pretty much people talking nonsense.  Why?

While we are at it, can you tell me about IGTV?

Tell me what you know! -M

  1. I have no clue! I'll have to come back later to read the comments! I get frustrated with the way the IG feed is based on most popular posts. I miss posts I want to see because they are buried.

  3. I post snippets of my day (when I think of it) on IG stories. For me, these pics are not "good enough" to be stand alone permanent pics on my IG feed. There are times when brands ask me to post things on stories as well. There are also times when I'll tag brands there in hopes of working with them. I use the highlights for stories I wanna keep. Make sense?

  4. I am planning on upping my IG stories game starting this weekend in Chicago. I've only done them when brands have asked for them or if I was at a special event that I wanted to have multiple photos from.

    1. Do you prefer stories opposed to doing the multiple pictures in one post thing?

  5. I have no idea either! I thought it was just me. I cannot figure out the difference or when the stories function should be used.

  6. I love seeing other people's stories, but it is hard to keep up! I post my main workout of the day to IG and use IG stories to share my day with the focus being my carb cycling and random things I deal with throughout the day.

    1. Some stories are fun to watch and some I just have to ask "why"?

  7. I saw somebody post about IGTV the other day and I was like "Huh???" Is this IG's attempt to become more like Facebook live? I'm quite confused.

  10. I was skeptical aboyt IG stories but now I love them. I post a bunch of stuff that I may not want to clog up my IG grid with. Like last night I went to this fun Nike event so I shared about 6 pics on stories and then posted one IG post to keep. I post stories when I get new products to try and show use of them, etc. It's great when you go to an event and you want to recap as you go, too.

I have questions on IG TV and Live too - I don't really get those ;)

    1. Keep all pictures from an event together sounds like a good idea, but why do you prefer stories opposed to using the multiple picture option in the IG feed? That way you are only posting one pic to your grid but people can swipe right to see all of them. Just wondering.

  11. I don't get it either. I don't like seeing the story icons and that I need to see them. It's like the unread emails in my Gmail.

    1. I wonder if you can turn that option off if you never want to see stories?

  12. I love me some IG Stories.
I use to to take pictures of things that are just sort of quick or random - I probably post like 3 or 4 stories a day, that would be pictures on my feed that get overlooked. With the new way IG shows their pics, I dont get as many likes as I used too (Thanks agorithym) but I'll get hundreds of looks on my stories. Plus, you can set your settings to save the IG story pics on your phone so you have them to save for yourself. & those little icons are just to sort any special stories that you want to have grouped together. It now also SAVES your IG stories so you can go back & look at those too. I love it. I wasn't sure at first either, but once you start, you'll love it.

  14. I am not on IG. Just (reluctantly) began tweeting the beginning of this year, when I began blogging. I love the fast pace of Twitter! I have "met" some incredible runners there. Maybe it's time for me to look at IG.

  15. I usually use IG stories when I want to post a lot about what I'm doing/where I'm at without writing a ton of captions for my pics. Like when I was in Pittsburgh I did one and one time at Disney I did one as well. It was kind of a game...like "guess where I am" for my followers. I just took photos at the hotspots in my location and posted them. But I haven't really gotten behind IG stories either for the most part.

  16. Late to the party, but chiming in to say that I don't get 99% of Instagram, LOL, and especially how some people seem to do 50 stories each day...about nothing.
