Here are a few things from my week.
I decided on the 5K races I wanted to run for the first part of Summer.
I DID NOT end up choosing the very hilly one for obvious reasons, but my friend did run it again. He came in at 33 or 34 minutes last year and this year he came in at 27 minutes so YAY for him!
I DID decide on the one Relay for Life 5K (which is coming up THIS coming weekend) and the 4th of July 5k. I wanted to do both Relay for Life races but the one conflicts with something else I will be doing.
I finally booked a vacation. It's coming up this month so I'm getting excited.
I started back at my PT gym on Friday afternoon! It was great to see everyone. I got right back into my old lifting routine which was probably a mistake. Instead of picking up right where I left off a few months ago I
should have eased into it . I was SO SORE afterwards. So that pretty much ruined my plans for running Friday night and Saturday. And to tell you the truth I'm still sore today but hoping to at least get a walk in or a short run. I need to step things up if I want to do half decent for the 5k this weekend.
To encourage my return to running this summer, I received this in the mail.
It was a gift from my sister and I love it. It's one of those motivational wraps and I'll for sure be wearing to the Relay for Life 5K this weekend.
Oh, and one more thing. I DID go see the movie "ME before You". It was pretty accurate to the book although I felt like it was a "fast forward" version of the book which was actually okay. It was sad of course but the book had many more "emotional" scenes in it which the movie did not.
And that pretty much wraps up the week. -M
When your legs are sore from lifting do you rest or keep pushing forward in the hopes to get your body use to it?
We are linking up with Tricia and Holly for the Weekly Wrap.
Love that bracelet! I always get so sore when I add strength training back in after a break. Your body will adjust though! For me it depends how sore I am. If Im just a little sore I will usually do some easy runs to shake them out. Otherwise I find that yoga helps!
ReplyDeleteYoga is a good idea. I guess I need to stretch it out!
DeleteAw, I hate it when you overdo a workout...you pay for that for days! Looking forward to hearing about your 5k races - and I love that bracelet, what a sweet gift from your sister. :)
ReplyDeleteYea, that bracelet just made my day!
DeleteLove that bracelet. I don't do strength training - probably should. Congrats on your return to running. Good luck in your 5k. Can't wait to hear how it goes.
ReplyDeleteThanks Darlene!
DeleteIf I am super sore, I may give it another day of rest. Sometimes I'll do a lighter workout to flush them out. I'm typically pretty careful of when I train legs for that exact reason. Yay for 5ks!
ReplyDeleteI hope it don't take too long to shake it off!
DeleteYou know me--I just push through the soreness! I always hope that the movement will loosen things up, which is usually the case.
ReplyDeleteI'm hoping to do a small run tomorrow and see how it feels.
DeleteGreat job on getting everything planned! I love that bracelet! Good luck on your races!!
ReplyDeleteThanks Tara! It's gonna be a busy month for sure!
DeleteI usually push through soreness, although not pain. Additional stretching and rolling should help reduce that quickly too. Your new bracelet was such a sweet gift. Can't wait to hear where you decided to take a vacation!
ReplyDeleteYea, it's definitely sore an not pain. I decided to do a short run today an it was actually okay!
DeleteI do less exercises the next day if I'm sore, but if it's more than sore, I give myself a break. Mostly it's knots here and there, so I strength train as well as a lot of foam rolling.
ReplyDeleteI do need to foam roll more. Hmm, seems like I say that a lot!
DeleteAwesome that you picked out a few 5K races! I'd like to do more 5Ks but don't run races in the summer.
ReplyDeleteI love to run in the summer because I have more time to train.
DeleteThe bracelet is such a sweet gesture from your sister. Since I don't do weights, I can't answer your question. But sometimes my legs are sore from cycling or skiing and I go ahead with my run cause I feel like I won't be using the exact same muscles. Good luck this weekend at the 5k! Thanks for linking with us Meranda!
ReplyDeleteThanks Holly. It's gonna be a hot one so I don't know how it will go!
DeleteI went to see the Movie too!! I liked it, but like you said, it was a very brief version of the book. I cried more with the book... I'm a book and movie crier.
ReplyDeleteHave an awesome time on your 5K this weekend! Looking forward to the recap!
Yes! I actually cried at the book too!
DeleteI go to a trainer twice a week and more times than not I'm running on something sore. Sore = a good workout right? I do try and get my run in the morning after a lifting session. Sometimes for me the DOMS doesn't set in until 24 hrs. so usually I can manage this ok. If it's my legs or hamstrings that are sore I tend to take it more easy until the soreness goes away. Good luck so glad your getting back in Maranda. Thanks for linking up.
ReplyDeleteI use to run after the gym all the time last summer because there is a great route by the gym.
Deletesounds like your summer is coming together nicely! Cute bracelet! You know I am getting old so I gotta keep moving! have a great week!
ReplyDeleteI suppose keep moving is not such a bad idea!
DeleteWhere are you vacationing? That's a cute bracelet!! :)
ReplyDeleteI'll be going on another cruise and then to the beach!
DeleteI love the momentum jewelry it's so cute and yes motivating! 5k's are great in the summer when it's so hot. Have a great week!
ReplyDeleteThis is my first piece of Momentum jewelry!
DeleteThanks for the report on the movie. I'm not sure I'll see it since I am sure my husband won't want to! I usually forget my legs are sore/tired until I'm out the door trying to go for a run and wondering why my legs feel like lead ....
ReplyDeleteI have the same momentum wrap and love it !
ReplyDeleteI love the Momentum wraps! Although I haven't gotten one for myself yet. Good luck with the races that you've chosen.
