You've Got to be kidding me.....

You've got to be kidding me..... Yup, that was the first thing that came out of my mouth when I opened an unassuming email yesterday afternoon.

If you haven't heard the news already, you may have said the same thing. Let me explain.

A while back, we had our eye on the Nike Women's Race (AKA the Tiffany Race).  We knew that we didn't want to do the Nike San Francisco, but the one in Washington D.C looked like that would be possible, EXCEPT it was on the same weekend as Big Sur. Well, maybe next year. EXCEPT, that following year the Nike Women's race was no longer being run in DC.  Womp Womp, there went our opportunity to run the Nike race on the East Coast.  But then, we were excited to hear about the Nike Women's race coming to Toronto. That's still doable from the East Coast so we were sold! Better yet, it's was only a 15K.  But then, right before the lottery opened, we got an invitation to a wedding and family trumps racing!

Okay, we were doing this Nike Toronto race in 2016 FOR SURE!   I did the research as to when the race lottery opened the previous year and eagerly awaited the date this year. We had hotels picked out and mapped out the route and time we would have to get on the ferry. I even bought a "Tiffany blue" running skirt for the race. We were set.  EXCEPT I never ever heard anything more about this race. No race date, no registration date, nothing. Then one day I heard the Nike race was not returning to Toronto!  Wow, what is up with Nike teasing us with races and then not bringing them back again?

Nike women's half marathon

Well, I did notice on the Nike Women's tour that Atlanta had now made the list. Okay, so that's still on the East Coast and that's doable. We will eagerly wait until the lottery/registration opens for Nike Atlanta. There was no indication when this race might take place but I assumed it would be in the fall since it is in "Hotlanta" afterall.   When Spring arrived, I was starting to get concerned cus I hadn't hear anything about the race. For sure people would want to get their race plans made for the year. Then Wine and Dine registration opened. That race is in November so for sure other fall race registration should be opening soon?  The first of June came and went and still no word. UNTIL yesterday. I finally got word about the Nike race I've been waiting for.

Regrettably, the Tour will no longer be visiting Atlanta.

Okay, say it with me " You have got to be kidding me".

The funny thing is, out of 15 tour stops, NOT ONE of them is in North America.  What's up with that?  Apparently it's just not in our cards to be running the Nike race!   -M &L

  1. Oh no, that really sucks! Especially when you have planned and got excited for it.

    1. I was really looking forward to the Toronto one so I was pretty bummed about that not being offered again.

  2. Aw that's a bummer! There's always another race to sign up for though, luckily!

    1. Oh I know there are better races out there but the idea of a women's race always intrigues me!

  3. It does not seem like Nike is very organized about their races. I know it is difficult to get a spot, but maybe it is not worth all the fuss. Although those blue boxes.....

    1. I do have plenty of jewelry so I kind of wish they would make a "Tiffany" medal instead. I bet that would be beautiful!

  4. Nike's on my sh** list right with everything it's doing. I heard wonderful things about the SF race, but then that started dwindling, then disappeared. If a race sells out every year, isn't it doing something right?

    1. I really wonder if they ARE selling out. I know that everyone who entered the Toronto Lottery got in. They seem to have a big enough crowd at these events so I don't know what they are basing their decisions on.

  5. That doesn't make sense to not have ANY races in the US - everyone has supported Nike with these races and now they are just going to ignore all their runners?? What the what, Nike!

    1. Exactly!!!! I really wonder what they are basing the decision on?

  6. I was really bummed about this race once upon a time too - I didn't make the lottery the last year they were in DC, and then it was gone!

    1. See, you not making the lottery just shows that the race must have been a sell out and there were more runners who wanted to participate. It just doesn't make sense.

  7. What!?! I kept hearing that they were doing Atlanta. I'm surprised they cancelled so late in the year like this. And that's crazy that there aren't any North America races.

  8. That race was on my list when it was in DC. Guess it won't happen for me then. Oh well, it sounded like fun.

    1. Well I guess we'll keep waiting to see if they announce a US city on next year's tour!

  10. Wow, that stinks...I've always wanted to do one of these races. What a tease indeed.

    1. There are 15 cities around the globe that are hosting this race. I can't believe not one is in North America!

  11. Sounds like its just destiny to not make that race :)
What a hassle for them to keep things so inconstant. How are people supposed to make plans? That's not very professional.
Just find a new race & set your heart on that one :)

  12. I heard the races were super unorganized, but I confess I wanted to do one to get my first, and probably only piece of Tiffany's jewelry.

  13. I wonder if the American Runners called Nike out about being disorganized and now they don't want to do races here?...lol

  14. Oh no! How awful that you've tried so many times to run this race and no luck! This one has been in the back of my mind to do one day...but I guess that won't happen now. :-(

  15. I agree, are you kidding me? Are we not good enough for Nike? That is just weird!

  16. I didn't make the lottery for DC so I was bummed. I got in for Toronto, was thrilled, but also really disappointed with their lack of early communication. You found out about the lotto, maybe two months before the race. But I LOVE my Tiffany bling. I really wanted to do Atlanta with a friend of mine for a girl's weekend. I'm so bummed that they're not coming back to NA this year. I'm seriously wondering if they'll come back again.

  17. The Nike race was always on my list but I read race recap after race recap saying the race was really unorganized and not that great. Maybe it's a blessing for you gals? I also think it speaks volumes that they have not been able to maintain/establish an east coast race....I'm not sure what the issue is but don't advertise a race if it isn't happening. -C

  18. Thats so annoying! And pretty strange. I wonder if they will switch things up next year?

  19. SERIOUSLY??? What is the deal? That is so frustrating that these races keep getting canned. I am really surprised that their communication has been so poor. Whenever Nike hosts local events in Chicago, they've always been very well-organized. I am really curious what is going on behind the scenes! I feel really bad for any folks who might have already gone ahead and booked airfare for these races in advance, only to learn later they were cancelled. Yikes!

  20. This race is always so popular! I wonder why the locations are changing and they're skipping US locations!

  21. I didn't get in dc, then they opened spots after for us rejects, but we had to pay for a virtual too. Rubbed me the wrong way and never looked back. Sav women's half is fab BTW.

  22. I am not sure what is going on with Nike! I wanted to try and run one of their races too and supposedly their tour was supposed to come through LA but that was cancelled as well!
