1. I think the most unique thing I've seen was a squirrel tail (no squirrel attached). A day later I ran the exact same route and wouldn't you know I saw a squirrel without a tail!
2. I saw a calf being born along the rail trail.
3. I saw a baby doll in the middle of the road.
4. I found a $10 bill. I debated for a hot minute on picking it up. I did and then felt guilty about it all day long. But to balance that out I found a Dunkin Donut gift card at the grocery store later that day and instead of keeping it I turned it into customer service.
5. I use to see just random articles of clothing. One shoe. One sock. A t-shirt. What on earth is the story with this. Was someone chafing that bad that they had had enough?
6. I found a beer tap handle on my trail once. It was a rather large one too. Scott said I should have picked it up, it was probably worth something...lol
7. This is probably the most inspirational thing I've seen on a run. It was a nice surprise.
We're linking up with the gals from TOTR.
LOL at the beer tap handle! Someone was probably really bummed when they got where they were going and that was missing. ;o)
ReplyDeleteAnd it was in the grass along a walking trail, so it was such an odd spot. Not like it fell off the back of a truck or something.
DeleteIt would be pretty cool to keep a running journal of stuff like this throughout a running career! Love that quote.
ReplyDeleteYea, I loved coming upon that quote.
DeleteOkay, I think the baby doll would have creeped me out! And it's so annoying when people leave their clothes all over the road or trail.
ReplyDeleteI wonder if they don't realize it's missing?
DeleteYou saw a calf being born? Wow - I bet that was amazing! Nothing that interesting happens on my runs.
ReplyDeleteYes, it was along the rail trail where there are many farms.
DeleteYou sure have seen some interesting things! The squirrel story cracked me up. :) We have albino squirrels in our hood. They are completely white. The weirdest thing I have seen on a run is the most perfect piece of chocolate cake just sitting in the grass. Okay off I go for my run. I will keep a lookout for something odd!!!
ReplyDeleteThat squirrel sighting happened years ago yet I still tell that story, cus what are the chances?
DeleteA piece of chocolate cake in the road is certainly odd. Perhaps it was a trap?...lol
That poor squirrel! The Another Mother Runner podcast talk about how much money the find on each run! it's hilarious! I have yet to find money, I'm running in the wrong places!
ReplyDeleteThat was the one and only time I've ever found money on a run!
DeleteThat poor squirrel. I have seen a squirrel at work without a tail, but I never saw where the tail went.
ReplyDeleteI wonder what happens, do there tails get ran over or something?
DeleteI totally laughed about the squirrel - apparently he's doing OK without that tail.
ReplyDeleteYou should have gone back the day after you found the $10 & see if you saw someone standing there with an empty wallet ;)
How cute are you feeling funny about taking it. If I know someone can't find the owner - I always feel like if I turn things in like that, someone behind the counter or who I turn it into is going to take it. I trust no one. Sadly.
Yea, I figured there was no way to prove who's it was so it was just my lucky day.
DeleteHaha you've seen some random things along the way! I saw a black squirrel once and thought it was a rat for a second. (Glad it wasn't.) Recently, I saw a pristine slice of watermelon and a pair of broken glasses. Beyond that, nothing exciting! I probably need to pay more attention.
ReplyDeleteI use to think black squirrels were rare but I now see them more often!
DeleteYou saw a calf being born?! How cool is that!!
ReplyDeleteLove that quote. <3
Yup, our rail trail runs behind several farms. It just so happened that there was a cow at the end of the property line who was giving birth.
DeleteI wonder what happened to that poor squirrel!? I can't believe you saw a calf being born. That's pretty cool! I love that quote, that would have made my day to run up on that!
ReplyDeleteYea, I was very pleased to see that quote on my run. It wasn't there next time I went out.
DeleteI wouldn't feel guilty about taking the money. I love finding money on a run, I tease myself and tell myself its like getting paid to run. Of course I don't actually find much. Never a $10 score:)
ReplyDeleteVery cool about seeing the calf born, thats actually pretty awesome!
Yea, and it was a run that I hadn't really wanted to do and it was a route that I never run. The $ definitely made the run worth while!
DeleteThere is a shoe tree along my trail where people toss retired shoes.
ReplyDeleteAww, I like that idea!
DeleteYou saw a calf being born?! That would be cool to pass!
ReplyDeleteWhen I was in LA I ran the boardwalk a few times and really enjoyed the positive graffiti all along the wall there. It made for very motivational running!
That would be cool to see!
DeleteA tap handle and a calf being born? Man, the only thing I get around me is garbage and common reptiles like turtles and snakes.
ReplyDeleteI didn't realize how interesting the things are that I've seen. I guess they are pretty unique!
DeleteI think you win. That's some pretty bizarre stuff. Baby cows are so stinking cute- once they are clean anyway. ;)
ReplyDeleteWe actually stayed and watched the calf for a while until it could stand up.
DeleteDon't you wonder the stories behind all the odd stuff?? Poor squirrel missing his tail.
ReplyDeleteYes, I have pondered that one!
DeleteFor years, there was a pair of discarded hightop sneakers "hanging" over a power line near our middle school. They were there for several years...like when our oldest was in middle school (she just recently graduated college).I run (and drive) on that route now and then, and it's only in the past year or so I noticed they're gone ;-(
ReplyDeleteThat's odd.
DeleteI feel the same way about random clothing - especially when it's one shoe. Like, didn't you notice you lost a shoe??
ReplyDeleteExactly!!
DeleteHaha! You've seen some very interesting things! I love the random clothes...somebody somewhere is running a naked race?!
ReplyDeleteYea, I don't understand that one.
DeleteOMG, that poor squirrel! I shudder to think about what must have happened for the tail to get lost. Makes me think of "pin the tail on the donkey" except with the squirrel!
ReplyDeleteI wonder if he just missed getting hit by a car?
DeleteI love that you found a squirrel tail and then a tailless squirrel. That's funny!
ReplyDeleteYup! I can't make this stuff up!
DeleteHaha, a $1 is even a good to find on a run!
