Are you a Fitness Slob?

Okay, so this was something I was thinking about the other day. I enjoy a very neat and tidy house, a place for everything and everything in it's place. If you have been reading this blog for any amount of time, you know that I thrive on organization. Have you seen my closets?

My husband generally does a good job of keeping things neat but the one thing that drives me crazy (and he knows this) is his mail on the kitchen table. I've come up with other methods for him to organize his mail, but apparently I've failed at each one because the mail still makes it to the table.

And then the other day it hit me.  His mail on the table drives me crazy yet as I walk around my downstairs, I found a pair of running shoes beside an end table, a running jacket draped over the back of a dinning room chair, my calf massager beside the couch, my Garmin and ipod both laying on the end table charging, and a yoga mat rolled up in a corner.  I've realized that I'm a fitness slob!  I leave traces of my running and training all over the house.

This made me realize that I once had a proper place for all these items. Remember the organizer on the back of the closet door I was suppose to put all my running gear in?  I also have a basket in the den for yoga mats and other larger gear. As far as the calf massager, that thing is to larger (and heavy) to store away when not in use so it just keeps getting pushed from the living room to the den.

I find it funny that a little bit of mail annoys me yet my husband puts up with all my running stuff around the house and has never said a word about it. He's a good sport! -M

Tell me what annoys you.

We will be linking up with the gals from TOTR.

  1. I must admit that I am. I have all my workout stuff everywhere. I start off well and by about Tuesday it is everywhere.

    1. I start off well too but things seem to trickle out of their place, right?

  2. Ahh the rolled Yoga mat! I have one in my TV room and honestly it isn't put away except when we have company coming to the house. I actually figured out the perfect storage place for all my little running accessories in a basket near our door to the garage.

  3. I have my running stuff all over the place too! Adam doesn't comment about many things, but when too many pairs of running shoes start stacking up under the kitchen island he'll take them all and put them in the closet. It's sweet of him to do that for me, but I know it's because he's annoyed that I've left them in the kitchen! (And actually it annoys me because I LIKE them under the kitchen island, the most convenient place for me to put them on and take them off HAHA!)

    1. I admit that my husband does comment on my running shoes once in a while. He says one of these days he's gonna trip over them!

  4. Messes...I can't stand them either! I'm an organized person and having little things all over the place drives me nuts! Haha! I made room for my running gear inside a cabinet in our washroom - that way when I leave for my runs, it's right there and when I return, it's right there to be put away. :)

  5. I try to keep it all together... but it's tough!! I'm a dribbler with stuff... I just leave one thing here.. one thing there.... :-)

  6. Its certainly tough to keep everything tidy and organized. I'm far from perfect when it comes to putting everything away. I really need to be better about putting things in their place immediately when I'm done with them as opposed to just plopping it down somewhere and then having to spend a lot of time cleaning up the house.

    1. It's nice when you've already designated a particular place for things. I guess the hard part is making sure they return there, right?

  7. Drawers open drives me nuts... or random clothing laying everywhere. The hubs is notorious for shedding clothes (especially in winter when he wear like 8 layers) when he walks. Seriously - I find a shirt on the banister, & another shirt on the floor & a belt on the couch & a sock in the hallway (he always takes off ONE sock every day & sleeps in one)... I'm married to a weirdo.

  8. I think some men just enjoy having a stack of papers in the dinner table at all time. My ex-husband used to keep this stack of papers at the kitchen counter all the time!

I try to keep all my zumba, running and yoga stuff in one place, or else I end up leaving missing something.

However, this does not mean I'm tidy! I moved to where I am now back in November and still trying to organize the last boxes. I think that will be my project this weekend.

  9. I am very neat with everything, including my running gear. My husband? Not so much - his running shoes were near the shower, his Garmin and Road ID were on the kitchen counter, his running hat was rinsed and hanging from the kitchen faucet to dry, and his hydration belt was on the laundry room counter. I should get a freaking medal for not commenting on any of this to him...and to his credit, within 24 (VERY LONG FOR ME) hours, everything was put away.

    1. Haha, you should write all this in a blog post and make him read it!

  10. Now see this would be me and my husband. He leaves his stuff everywhere! I can't get him to stop, but if I look hard, I leave a lot of my stuff in odd places too, but it never bothers him like it does me.

    1. That's good that your stuff being out doesn't bother him!

  11. Having to almost always put his stuff in the dishwasher.

Granted, he rarely puts it where I want to be, and I often rearrange it, but I keep telling him that it's easier if it's already in there.

That & the fact that he is always ignoring Lola (and before her both the dogs) when it's very clear they want to go out but he just doesn't feel like moving. It drives me insane!

Oh, and the pistachio shell crumbs all over this keyboard.

The really funny thing is that I'm not neat, in fact the place is a bit more of a mess than usual right now.

    1. Haha, my husband has been known to be like that with the dogs too. He always says "I think Baylee wants something and I don't know what it is".

  12. My hubby is the slob. It drives me nuts. I hate when stuff in on the counter or dresser. I also hate shoes not put away.

I am tired of nagging so I just put things away.

Now my stuff doesn't bother me at all.

    1. I too hate when stuff is on the dresser. I just did a clean sweep of that while my husband was away. He probably won't even miss anything that was on there!

  13. I related to this post in pretty much every way! I get super frustrated with my husband piling up all of his mail on the countertop, too. He's very paranoid about having to shred everything, so he builds up stacks of mail and then shreds them in bunches (after I remind him). But I also pile up all of my workout clothes, shoes, and gear everywhere! Funny how that works, right? We only see what we want to see. =)

  14. Wow your closets look great! Right now our's look awesome because we did a thoroughly house cleaning/organizing. It feels great to have everything in it's place. We are generally tidy people as well. It's just sometimes the closets get messy!

  15. My husband leaves the mail all over too! Well, he leaves alot of stuff all over the place and I can't help but move it into a pile, an then he can never find anything! Im pretty good about keeping my fitness stuff organized. I do leave some foam rolling stuff in the living room but usually i stick it in the corner where its kind of hidden:)

  16. Lol lol. I never thought of myself as a slob, but yeah I am totally a fitness slob. My treadmill although never gets any actual use. Well I hang (drape) all my running stuff on it and have never thought anything of it till now. Love to tell ya that will change now, but..... lol fun post idea!

  17. Ha! I leave running gear everywhere. It drives my husband crazy. Out of the two of us, he's more of a neat freak and I'm...not. I'm definitely the one who's leaving stuff all over the house (running gear and otherwise).

  18. I would say immediately after a workout I'm a total slob...I'll come in take my shoes off and leave them in the middle of the floor, put my garmin on the dining room table, etc, even though I know they all have their place. Eventually after I've showered and refueled I'll tidy up. It drives my husband nuts.

  19. This just made me laugh bc my husband' mail pile (which grows exponentially ) drives me bonkers but I really don't care if my running shoes or visors are all around. My closet-ugh not good right now

  20. I keep my foam roller out since I use it multiple times, every day. My front closet is running out of space so if I do want to put my foam roller away, I have to think about where to put it. The laundry room is next.

  21. I am really good with my fitness stuff, it's in shoeboxes in a cabinet. I get annoyed when hubby leaves clothes everywhere!

  22. I am not sure I am a fitness slob, but I am organized chaos. My apartment is really little so it is all shoved in a few places and kind of exploding out.

    ReplyDelete
  23. To avoid all of the fitness stuff in the living room, I got a basket and all my journals, chargers, magazines, foam rollers, timers, etc. go in there. I like my house picked up too ! My husband is pretty good about things. The only thing that drives me crazy is teenagers not making their bed. How hard is it to pull up a comforter ????

  24. Oh gosh...my husband's mail on the kitchen counter drives me crazy!!!!! It seems we always have to a mad search for a box to stash all of the counter "clutter" in whenever we have company...and he realizes that most of the stuff is junk mail and it is never missed. But, a couple days later, a new pile starts forming.....

  25. OMG the mail and papers everywhere drives me CRAZY!!!

I leave my running stuff lying around but only for a couple hours until I get a chance to shower and eat. Then I clean up after myself. :)

    ReplyDelete
  26. aw, that's a good guy you got! My type A guy has mellowed over the years so we are both a bit messy with "things" until we go on an organization tear and clean up like crazy people.

    ReplyDelete
  27. I leave a trail of running shoes around the house. And hair ties. Those just get dropped wherever I get tired of having them in my hair.

    ReplyDelete
  28. Honestly, I'm pretty much a slob in general...LOL. But, yeah, the addition of running/fitness gear in my life (and there's just so MUCH of it) has NOT helped.

    ReplyDelete
  29. I am SUCH a fitness slob! I have places for everything, but my shoes, yoga mat, weights, etc, seem to migrate out of those spots and into the living room! I try to return them every Sunday so we can start the week on the neat note!
