February Wrap up

It's time for our monthly wrap up.

In February, I've been really consistent in going to my fitness classes.

Weekly Wrap....June 17

This week I started on the swimming portion of my Tri training. All I have to say about that is What on earth was I thinking signing up for this triathlon? I know this is only a mini distance but this was tough on me! This is NOT my cup of tea. There were times where I thought about throwing in the towel but I will see this adventure through to the end. My mom seems to be doing well though.

So this week was ALL about the training. There was little time to focus on anything else, and really I was too exhausted to anyway.

Here is how it all went.

Monday: 2 Mile Run, and then swim for an hour.  I came home and ended up showering and taking a nap I was so exhausted.

Tuesday: Swimming one hour. Again, I came home showered and then relaxed most of the day.

Wednesday:  Walk/run 2 Miles and then swim. I only swam for 45 minutes, I figured that extra 15 minutes wasn't going to make or break my swimming..lol.  When I came home, I knew I had to get out of my rut of laying down. Once I lay down, I'm done for. I knew I needed to accomplish something else so immediately after running I rode my bike for 5 miles. When I was done, I parked at a friend's house in town and parked my bike there so I could do a run.  Of course I started out slow, but honestly I thought I would have been much slower. I looked at my watch as I approached one mile and I surprisingly saw that I was still in the 9's! Overall, it took me 15 minutes to run a mile and a half. I'll take it. After riding bike, I thought I'd be a lot slower..lol

After doing this full brick workout today I was starting to gain a little confidence.

Thursday: By this time I was so over the swimming thing. I'm really trying to practice my techniques and the people at the YMCA pool are so helpful. I only swam for a half hour this day.  I did not go home and rest afterwards...lol.  I actually did some errands and house work.

Friday: I think this day was the best day of training. I simulated what it would be like to do the entire Tri. I only swam 8 laps this day.  I immediately rode 7 miles afterwards and then did the run portion. I surprised the heck out of myself when I saw that I was able to keep my pace at 9:48 for the running.   I think that's pretty good (for me) considering I swam and biked before hand.  I will say too that I had nice weather. It was not extremely hot and humid.

When I was finished with this brick workout I was of course tired but I was not exhausted to the point where I collapsed and shut down for the rest of the day. I think this workout gave me even more confidence that I CAN do this.

Saturday : I used this as a rest day.  We did some shopping today and I ended up buying a new bike helmet.

I plan to get one more swim in at  the lap pool and then if I do any more before race day it will just be in  my own pool. I just need to calm the heck down about the swimming portion. It's okay to take it slow. It is what it is!  -M

Weekly Wrap...Atlantic City

We spent this weekend in Atlantic City. My mom, sister and I were all running the April Fools race on the Boardwalk.

We decided to try a different resort this year so we opted for the Showboat (which is pet friendly by the way).  We are not gamblers so this fact didn't bother us but I feel the need to mention that there is no longer a casino there. This fact made it very quiet as we walked to and from our room all weekend.

Showboat is right on the boardwalk. This was our fabulous view!

Friday afternoon we did a LOT of walking. We walked up and down the boardwalk and in town to the Outlets to do some shopping.  We were both shopping for dress shoes but ended up buying clothes and jewelry instead!

Afterwards we walked back to the boardwalk  to pick up our race packet at Margaritaville.

We were suppose to have a cart waiting for us to take us back to the other end of the boardwalk but it never came so we walked all the way to the other end again to get to Rain Forest Cafe for Dinner.  I could tell with all the walking we had been doing that I was starting to get blisters on my toes. This would not be good for race day.

Funny Story about the Rain Forest.  After we sat down, a young couple was seated across from us.  While we were there, several random people would come up to this young couple. A lady even came up to them and asked to take their picture. Of course my mom and sister and I thought they must be famous, but who were they? We didn't know. At first I thought the girl may have been Gabby Douglas, although maybe she was a little younger.  Finally a young boy came up to the couple with a piece of paper and it looked like he was going to ask the couple for their autograph. Finally we couldn't take it anymore and we had to know who they were, so my mom was bold enough to ask. Turns out, this young couple was just an ordinary couple (probably in high school) and they were on their first date. The boy that came up to them was his little brother and the lady that asked for their photo was his mom. Turns out his family was seated around the corner.  An older couple seated behind us said they were also wondering who they were and were glad we asked..haha.

After dinner we stopped at a massage parlor on the Boardwalk (one that we have been to before) and my mom got a foot massage. I could have used one too but I thought I would just wait till I got home because I had a gift certificate to a local place.

These were the BEST race shirts ever. SO SOFT.

Saturday was race day and it went better than expected. The weather was great for running (although a bit windy on the way up the boardwalk and a little too warm on the way back).  My Garmin did not start properly at the beginning so I just waited till I got to mile one to start it over.  I was happy to see there was a clock at mile one and it said 9:15.  I thought the wind was holding me back a bit but I was pleased to see I was keeping a 9:15 pace for the first mile and remembered I had to add that on to my Garmin's final finish time.   I was hoping for a better finish time, but in the end I realized that out of the last 5 years I have been doing this race, I PR-ed by 15 seconds. Whoop dee  doo. I think I can do even better next time.    This is a really fun race and I think Lacey will have a complete recap coming up later. Stay tuned! -M

Weekly Wrap...April 8

This week there were points where I felt very motivated and days when I did not. Last Monday I did two classes at the gym before going straight to work for the day. I was exhausted all day not to mention hungry because I didn’t get to eat much before heading into work. So this Monday I decided to just sleep in and only made it out for two miles before work and I was just fine with that.

Tuesday was another full day at work. On my break I splurged on this Oreo cupcake.

And yes it was delicious as it looks. This cupcake was from Twisted Sisters Cupcake. They were on cake wars but unfortunately did not win. I think they should have with this cupcake alone! After work I thought I better do something after eating that cupcake so I did a short 2 mile run before going to the gym and doing Body Pump.

Wednesday I felt motivated . I woke up to beautiful weather so I couldn’t pass up a long run. I downloaded some new podcasts and ran 12 miles before going into work. I knew this was going to be a short day at work so I didn’t mind running long beforehand.

Thursday I overslept for work so the whole morning just threw me off. I was so rushed getting ready  that I didn’t have much time for anything before running out the door.  Of course this was another long day at work. Since I didn’t bring lunch, I splurged again and went to Cici’s Pizza. For those of you that do not know what that is, it is an all you can eat pizza restaurant. I never do good at buffets and always seems to leave them with a belly ache because I eat all I can. I gotta get my money’s worth right? Well in my defense I was starving from not eating breakfast and I did make it to the gym to do Body Step and then still managed a three and half mile run afterwards.

Friday-  I woke up still not hungry from the day before because of my pizza splurge so I decided to do a Body Pump class that morning. After the gym I stopped at Dunkin Donuts because I got an email for a free cold brew…….score! I had just run out of coffee that morning so this was perfect, so I thought.

Well I didn’t read the fine print and it was just a sample. Oh well, it was on the way home and it gave me a little boost to run 8 miles after I got home from the gym.   It was not until 12:30 that afternoon that I actually ate something since my lunch the day prior.  After work that evening I tried out a new wine bar with a friend and had a salmon BLT for dinner.

Saturday- I could not sleep and was up by 3:30 am. Sex and the City was on television so I watched a few episodes before heading to the gym. After the gym I met some friends for brunch for a friend’s birthday. When I arrived home I found this on my door step.

My teamiblend. I am excited to try the 30 day detox I have been hearing such great things about.  The rest of the day I spent just relaxing since it was a cold and rainy day.  -L

Weekly Wrap ...Nov 5

I'm hoping to do a Turkey Trot and some kind of Holiday/Christmas themed race between now and the end of the year but that's kind of it. I'm not really training for anything so the next couple of weeks posts will probably be less running related and more about life in general. However, I know Lacey has some exciting running related stuff coming up in the near future so hopefully she'll be able to entertain you!

This week I enjoyed coming home after work and not rushing around to change into running clothes and head to the trail. I did some foam rolling, stretches, and watched lots of Judge Judy!

There is a person inside that Dinosaur.  It was the funniest thing watching it walk down the street!

On Halloween I hung out at my parent's house for a little bit and watched the trick or treaters.  When I walked up on their porch, they had this creepy Halloween music playing. I asked where it was coming from and here they had stuck their Google Home behind a plant on the porch. I thought that was clever!  My dad is so funny, he barely waits for the kids to ring the doorbell and say Trick or Treat. Instead, he opens the door first and HE is the one saying trick or treat!  If you've ever watched the show Modern Family, our dad is like Phil Dunphy. We say that all the time.

This was spooky because you didn't know which characters were fake and which were real people!

Later that evening my mom and I went to a nearby neighborhood to see this creepy haunted house. It wasn't a house that you walked inside of, it was just a guy that has a production company and he put on something like live theater out front of his house with a bunch of displays and scary music.

By Thursday I just couldn't stand it anymore, I had to go for a run! It was just too nice not too and I hated the thought of letting this perfect weather go to waste!

Friday I ran errands after work and then headed to Starbucks for my usually Friday night happy hour!
The new holiday flavors are here and I got the Chestnut Praline Frappe! I still can't bring myself to ordering a hot beverage yet!

Speaking of Holidays, it will soon be time to do the Blogger Holiday Card Swap. Should we continue with this tradition?  This will not be an official "sign up" but let us know in the comments if you might be interested.

Saturday we did some errands for our Kitchen since we are doing a slight remodel (which I am slowly regretting) and then the rest of the day was spent celebrating with my sister for her upcoming birthday.   So as I said, not a lot of running or other workouts going on, but that's okay.  It's good to take a rest sometimes and focus on other things!  -M

Weekly Wrap....May 21

This week went really fast, as I suspect the rest of the weeks will go from now till the end of the school year.

After being a little bummed last week because I wasn't able to reach my step goal as often as I liked, I went into this week very strong but then I fizzled out.  Here are some highlights!

Monday We had our photo shoot down at the park and then we did a loop around the island. I then came home and discovered a new 2 mile running route near my home! I had no problem getting  my steps in this day.
A fallen tree blocking the path.

Tuesday I went back to the island by myself  and was sad to see all the destruction from the storm earlier this month.  Got my goal steps in this day too.

Wednesday is where it started to go down hill. I did not run or walk but I did start to shave Baylee girl in preparation for her first swim.  Then Scott and I took a friend out to dinner (it was a buffet) so I felt miserable afterwards.

Thursday was Baylee's first swim of the season (sorry no photo) but I was taking video of her using her new raft! At this point though she was just excited to get swimming, she didn't want to be laying on a raft. By mid summer she'll be lounging and I won't be able to get her off!  I did hit my step goal this day.

Friday I got Runner mail from Wendy. Runner friends really are the best. They just get you! Thanks again Wendy!

Saturday was such a waste of day for me. Scott was away this weekend so Baylee and I slept in pretty late. Most of the day was spent playing with my new phone and talking to a friend for a very long time!

It wasn't till after 6:00 pm that Baylee and I decided to hit the fitness trail before heading to Wendy's for a Cranberry/Apple Chicken Salad and an organic Green Tea.

Now speaking of phones, I decided that now was a good time for me to get a new phone. I know my friends were probably sick of me asking them questions about their phones...lol.  As you may know, I am a huge fan of Blackberry. I'm on my 4th one! I HATE to get rid of it. It is the perfect size (fits right in my running pouch and my pockets), has a great camera, has an SD card (which many don't have), it's just SO easy to use AND I can blog on it (no app required).  The downfall is that some of the keys are starting to stick and one of my favorite apps (IG) does not work properly. Is this worth upgrading? I don't know, but I did.  I ended up getting the iphone because of its small size.  I did do a lot of research so I didn't go into this blindly, but you never know what something is really going to be like until you start using it for YOUR needs.   Now, I know that everything takes time to get use to but here are some things that I'm disappointed in so far.

-No LED notification for texts and emails

-No removable SD card (I knew this going in and was willing to compromise but not sure I want to anymore)

- I don't like all the clicking and screens that stay open. I like swiping up and swiping down to open and close screens.

-I can not blog from my phone anymore. This is HUGE and may be a deal breaker for me. Blogger no longer offers the Blogger app for iphone and I can't even blog from the Blogger home page (with no app) because it does not allow me to insert photos from my phone. There is an option to do so, but it does not work on iphone. I guess people use the "cloud" and Google pics but I'm not comfortable having all the pictures I take go directly to who knows where.

So now I spent all weekend doing more research on phones. My ideal phone would be less than 5.5 inches, be Android based, have an SD card and decent camera and now here's the downside, it has to be able to work on the Verizon network.  I've found a few that fit this description but they are not available for Verizon or they are not available in the USA.  There is a new Galaxy that came out this spring that fits the bill  as well as a NEW BLACKBERRY but right now neither are available in the USA, bummer!

I though the iphone would be a step up from my Blackberry but as it turns out, I think Blackberry was ahead of its time (Yes, I'll keep telling myself that).  As of right now, I'm using both phones.

Do you have my ideal phone or is it just a Unicorn out there somewhere? M

Weekly Wrap brought to you by the weather and critters...July 3

Now is a great time for me to reflect upon my week of workouts!

We are linking up with HoHo Runs and MissSippiPiddlin for their Weekly Wrap.  Here  we go!

Weekly Wrap..June 5th

Isn't life grand? I am in full on Summer mode and am just loving it!

Here are a few things from my week.

I decided on the 5K races I wanted to run for the first part of Summer.

I DID NOT end up choosing the very hilly one for obvious reasons, but my friend did run it again. He came in at 33 or 34 minutes last year and this year he came in at 27 minutes so YAY for him!

I DID decide on the one Relay for Life 5K (which is coming up THIS coming weekend) and the 4th of July 5k. I wanted to do both Relay for Life races but the one conflicts with something else I will be doing.

I finally booked a vacation. It's coming up this month so I'm getting excited.

I started back at my PT gym on Friday afternoon! It was great to see everyone. I got right back into my old lifting routine which was probably a mistake. Instead of picking up right where I left off a few months ago I
should have eased into it . I was SO SORE afterwards. So that pretty much ruined my plans for running  Friday night and Saturday.  And to tell you the truth I'm still sore today but hoping to at least get a walk in or a short run. I need to step things up if I want to do half decent for the 5k this weekend.

To encourage my return to running this summer, I received this in the mail.

It was a gift from my sister and I love it. It's one of those motivational wraps and I'll for sure be wearing to the Relay for Life 5K this weekend.

Oh, and one more thing. I DID go see the movie "ME before You". It was pretty accurate to the book although I felt like it was a "fast forward" version of the book which was actually okay. It was sad of course but the book had many more "emotional" scenes in it which the movie did not.

And that pretty much wraps up the week. -M

When your legs are sore from lifting do you rest or keep pushing forward in the hopes to get your body use to it?

Weekly Wrap...May 23

It's time for the Weekly Wrap once again.

Guess what?  My Fitness Challenge is over!  Its so funny that I am So Happy about this.

Weekly Wrap....May 1

I have a really great treadmill at home. It's a Nordic Track iFit.  Yet I don't think I even stepped foot on it while training for either one of my marathons. Yup, I discovered that I'd rather run in rain, snow, and 30 degree weather than run miles on a treadmill. However, since I started the fitness challenge at work with my MisFit, the treadmill has become my best friend.

 I forgot how convenient  the

Weekly Wrap.....On the run...April 17

Wow, I can't believe how fast April is going.  I really thought April would drag on because we have no Holidays or long weekends this year, but surprisingly it is just whizzing by.  Also, since our March was SO windy here, I thought April would bring us lots of showers. We had a few days of rain but I think that is behind us and the warm weather has definitely approached!

I haven't done any real running since the April Fools Race we did the first weekend of the month. That's understandable since I don't have any races in the near future that I need to be training for and I 've been having that foot pain from a pair of dress shoes I wore a few weeks back. I thought I would have been over that by now but I figured a few more days of rest wouldn't hurt.  However,
