After checking into the Disney World Swan and Dolphin resort, we knew we wanted to have a more relaxed evening. We didn’t want to deal with Disney transportation or stand in long lines for anything, so we decided to spend a quiet evening on the Disney Boardwalk ( which we could easily walk to from the Disney World Swan and Dolphin). I had made a reservation for two at the Italian restaurant Trattoria al Forno. Our plan was to split a pizza and order some side salads. I knew there were some outside tables here, so when we arrived at the restaurant for our reservation, I asked if we could sit outside.
The hostess at the restaurant had to ask another cast member if we could sit outside. I assumed it would not be a problem since the tables outside already had these reserved sings on them. After getting back to us, the hostess told us that if we were ordering pizza, we were not able to sit outside. Pizza had to be ordered in the dining room. What? That made no sense. We were told that if we wanted to eat pizza outside, that we could order it from the pizza window. We did see the pizza window, but didn't want to order from there for these reasons.
1. The only options at the pizza window were plain or pepperoni.
2. An entire pizza at Trattoria al Forno was only $22 and one slice of pizza from the pizza window was $10.99. It just didn't make sense.
However, we obliged and we gave up our reservation at the restaurant so someone else could have it and we walked outside and stood in line at the pizza window.
Image from DisneyThis ended up being such a good decision.
We each ordered our slices of pizza and then had a seat at one of the reserved tables.
I chose the pepperoni and my sister had the plain. The window also offered those little packets of toppings such as oregano, peppers, cheese. The pizza was fabulous and very much worth the price! The walk up window also sells beverages ( both alcoholic and non alcoholic), Cannolis, and side salads. I don't remember seeing the side salad when I originally ordered the pizza at the window, but I do see it listed on the online menu. For an update menu to the Boardwalk Pizza Window, click HERE.
What made for even a better evening was the fact that there was a storm about to roll through and we were able to sit safely under the awning and watch the sky get dark and the lightning flash while hearing the rolling thunder. I am one who just loves thunderstorms, so this didn't bother me at all.
Our next plan for the evening was to watch the EPCOT firework show, but after waiting, and waiting some more, we finally assumed it had been canceled due to the weather ( even though the rain was not that heavy and eventually did stop.)
Even though this was a "low key" evening for us at Disney, I really enjoyed it. It just goes to show that some of the best memories can come from the simple things we do.
Till next time~ M
