Do THIS next time you visit Disney's Haunted Mansion

The next time you are in line at Disney's Haunted Mansion, take a moment to notice the Haunted Mansion maids. These are the cast members that are standing in the queue, usually the ones that are waiting to escort you in to the mansion.

Traditionally, these Haunted mansion maids are female, and as part of their iconic costume ( you know the one: the green dress with the black stripes), they also wear a lace headpiece.

This lace headpiece is adorned with a black felt bat.  If you never noticed it before, you are not alone. I have been going to Disney World for decades and that detail never stood out to me.

Over the years, the cast members began giving their individual bats names, treating them almost as if they were their pets. Some cast members have even created a back story about their bat and even stories on how they got their name.

Park guests are encouraged to ask the cast members about their bats.  When we visited Haunted Mansion our queue was stopped right in front of this lovely cast member, so I took the opportunity to ask her what her bat's name was. She was delighted that I asked and told me her bat's name was Petunia.  She was kind enough to allow me to take this photo of her ( so I could share this information with other Disney park guests).

So, the next time you get an opportunity to talk to a Haunted Mansion maid, ask her what her bat's name is.

Also, cast member costumes for Mickey's Not So Scary Halloween party include a bat head piece. I heard some cast members name these bas as well.

Till next time~ M & L
