Okay, now on to the Friday Five with the lovely DC gals. This week's theme is all about Race Memories.
Everyone one of our races holds a special memory to us ( not just the Disney Races either...haha). Instead of re-hashing our favorites like Boston, Big Sur, or Disney, we decided to share our memories like this................... How we are preserving those memories.
1.
If you haven't seen our Race Scrapbook yet, you can take a trip down memory lane with us and look at it HERE. Of course we need to update it with a few races from this year.
2.
Disney Princess weekend will ALWAYS be a favorite memory of ours. We put a brief video together and you can watch that HERE. ( There is sound with this so if you are reading this at work you might want to turn the volume down)
3.
If you want a fun way of recording your own race memories, you can do them with this race book we talked about earlier called Pedal, Paddle, Run. You can find more info on that HERE.
4.
Another fun way we preserve our race memories is by displaying our medals and creating personalized displays for them. If you haven't seen them yet, you can see our COMPLETE Race display walls HERE and HERE.
5.
And of course earlier this week we shared how I was able to preserve my Boston Marathon memory by getting my actual race day bib screen printed on a coffee mug. If you'd like to learn more about how I did that you can find more info HERE.
How do you preserve your race memories? Do you have a favorite?
We finally finished painting our office this week, and I cannot wait to finally get a medal holder for all of our medals! Your medal display will definitely be in the back of my mind as I work on putting them all up.
ReplyDeleteIt's such a great way to display your accomplishments.
DeleteOh that coffee mug is simply awesome! I use my blog to preserve my race memories. It's been super useful when I'm going to run a race the next year, I can check back on my race recap from the prior year to remind myself what to expect.
ReplyDeleteThanks. I have been using my mug all the time. It always puts a smile on my face in the morning:)
DeleteHow cool is that coffee mug?! I need to learn how to do that!
ReplyDeleteI know right! Goneforarun can hook you up.
DeleteI love the idea of having a race bib printed on a coffee cup. That is such a great way to remember a race. Right now I have all my race bibs displayed with my medals ( my husband made me a custom hanger) but would love to have other items so show off my running memories!
ReplyDeleteThanks. Yeah it's nice to have it on something I see every day.
DeleteI think the biggest way I preserve my race memories is through pictures. They help me to remember the specific moment and what I was feeling.
ReplyDeleteThat's a great way! I am guilty though never taking my phone during races.
DeleteI don't run with a camera, but I love preserving my race bibs. I have them at work and they can be quite the conversation starter. We had auditors in from a sponsor and one saw my Princess bib and we started talking.
ReplyDeleteI don't run w my camera either. That's a great place to display your bibs. I don't go to an office, so I just have mine in a bibfolio
DeleteI love all these ideas. Thanks for sharing! I will definitely look into some of these. I haven't done much in the way of preserving race memories but really want to start.
ReplyDeleteYour welcome. Hope this helps you with ideas to display your race memories.
DeleteGreat ideas! I love your display wall and think I'm going to try to get a medal display for my workout room. I met someone who had a quilt made out of race shirts and I thought that was pretty cool.
ReplyDeleteThanks. Yes I love my medal display in my workout room. It's a great reminder when I'm on the treadmill. I have heard of quilts being made out of race shirts too. What a great idea. Maybe one day when I have enough I will get that done too.
DeleteI really need to organize my race stuff! Thanks for all the great reminders
ReplyDeleteYour welcome! We've worked too hard for those, there's no reason we shouldn't show them off:)
DeleteI love how you have so many ways to keep your race memories alive. I have a medal/big holder and a shadow box my mom made from some of my races. I also like having the blog recaps of races though so I can look back :-)
ReplyDeleteI've been wanting to grtt a shadow box made for my B2B. That's such a great idea!
DeleteI am very curious to see how RnR handles this situation. I am impressed they took the time to contact you but hopefully it is because they plan on fixing their issues.
ReplyDeleteLove y'all's race memory ideas!
Thanks. Yes we are too. We will be contacting them today to see what they have to say.
DeleteI watched the video again & keeping an eye out for all the Belle/Beast sightings :)
ReplyDeleteI have a scrapbook I keep all my bibs in & make notes & tape pictures with them. Love looking back at it.
I have a bibfolio that I write down which marathon, my time, what the weather was like, etc. I'm so forgetful at times that it's nice to know you can look at those and bring back great me memories.
DeleteThese are all great ideas. I am actually going to do the same thing with my Boston bib, thank you again for telling us about that. I actually don't have any of my medals out with the exception of Boston, they are all in a box in the bottom of my closet, but I think once we redo my office I will make a section there for them. My memories are usually just in picture form from the event.
ReplyDeleteYou should definitely display all your accomplishments once your office is redone.
DeleteOkay, having your bib screen printed on a coffee mug is sheer genius!!! Thank you so much for sharing this, and I love your list! Hope you have a great weekend!
ReplyDeleteThanks. You do the same!
DeleteAll great ideas! I love the bib on the coffee mug, too bad I don't drink coffee ;) I have been saving my race tshirts to have them made into a quilt!!
ReplyDeleteWell I'm sure you could get in one a different kind of cup. I saw what you wrote back to me yesterday and was surprised to hear that you didn't drink coffee.
DeleteI have kept all my bibs to use in a project similar to one of these. But I might have to take my first bib and make a coffee mug. I love my coffee!!
ReplyDeleteYou will have to share what you end up doing for your project.
DeleteI always have big intentions of doing something with my race memorabilia, but I never get around to it. I have all of my race bibs and I was considering making a collage of my favorites in one of those large poster frames you can get at craft stores. Of course, I haven't done it, yet! Maybe I should just do a scrapbook. :)
ReplyDeleteYou should do a scrapbook. That way you can put all your in one place not just a few.
DeleteLOVE the mug....and the other stuff too. :-) My medal display is like yours and I love the sparkle and shine!
ReplyDeleteThanks. We love display our accomplishments in different ways.
DeleteYou gals always have such fun ways of interpreting the Friday Five! Super cute and fun ways to preserve memories here. I don't do anything, though I need a medal hanger desperately. I also want to get one of those books where you can store your bibs and then next to it write down your race stats/info/memories. I'm not quite crafty enough to do a scrapbook haha.
ReplyDeleteThanks. Yes they are called bib folios and are a great way to document your races.
DeleteThat mug is fantastic! But I don't know how I would choose a race...
ReplyDeleteThanks. I know right! I have a feeling I will be getting other race bibs on other things.
DeleteI absolutely love this !!!!
ReplyDeleteMy list of todo includes a basic quilt from cotton Ts. And to complete the Bib frame I'd started - basically putting in all the bibs inside a poster frame to make a huge big poster.
I think the quilt idea is great! Please share if you do this.
DeleteSuch great ideas!! One of my Ragnar teammates made an awesome video slideshow to music recapping our race last year. I love the coffee cup! I've never seen that! I have my medals on a 4-hook metal hangar (not running specific - it actually has horses on top), I might need a way to expand...
ReplyDeleteA video. How cool. I have always wanted to do a Ragnar race.
DeleteLove that race bib mug! Most of my races don't give out medals, so I've never needed a medal rack, but now I've got a few pinned up on my bulletin board at work.
ReplyDeleteWell at least you are displaying it someway.
ReplyDeleteThose are all great ideas!! Love the race scrapbook. Thanks for sharing! :)
ReplyDeleteI love the bib on the coffee cup idea! I am going to look into that as a gift for myself. :) Maybe I will do both my Bostons!
ReplyDeleteThose are great ways to preserve the memories!
ReplyDeleteI have my race bibs and medals all hanging up in my home office...although I am sure the bibs will need their own special book soon! :)
Loved your Princess weekend video too! Ran the 1/2 in 2012 so it was fun to see the course again through your pics!
I LOVE the mug idea!!! I have never seen anything like it! I think I will do that with my NYC marathon bibs. Great post!
ReplyDeleteWow! This is pretty sweet! I think I am definitely going to check out the "Pedal Paddle Run" book!!!! :)
ReplyDeleteThe mug is perfect! I wonder if I could modge-podge my actual bib onto a mug...?
ReplyDeleteomg that mug. love love love it!
