September Runfessions!

Well, we made it through the month of September!  September is the month I probably look forward to the least because it signifies the end of summer. It's back to work, back to wearing REAL clothes, pants, and closed toe shoes.  However, this September felt like an extension of our summer. I can honestly say I have not even worn long pants yet (except for that evening I had to wear them in 90 degree weather to go up in the hot air balloon that never happened).   Of course the heat does not make for good running, but all that sunshine sure makes me happy!  That brings me to the Runfessions for this month.

1. Even though it put a damper on long distance running, I  Runfess I wasn't even mad about the heat this month!

2. Which makes me glad that I don't have a long distance race on my calendar for fall. I'm doing a marathon relay.  If I was doing anything longer than what my leg of the race would be, I'd be really far behind on my training.

3. I did signed up for that Monster Dash Halloween 5k!  I'll be running that with my mom. I haven't done a Halloween themed race since Wicked a few years back. I really want to dress in costume yet something easy to run in. Any suggestions?

4. Speaking of races, I was really bummed out for my sister this week. She BQ-ed last year at the Chicago Marathon and signed up for Boston last week.  She was under the cut off time by at least 3 minutes.  Turns out even with that cushion, she still didn't make it in.

5. Remember that Color Run I ran in August?  I won 2nd place in my Age Group but they didn't have enough medals. Well, I finally got the medal in the mail the other week.  It's nice to get mail, but it's definitely not the same as receiving it at a race. This may be the only medal I've never worn.

  1. I like warm weather, but not really when it's in the 90s or super humid - unless I'm at the pool or beach ;) I feel really bad for your sister. So many fast runners out there! Happy end of September!

    1. I'd like to say warm weather doesn't bother me. At least while I'm not running!

  2. Congrats on your medal! It is sort of less impactful after the fact, but better late than never. Bummer on Boston. I never understood how you could "BQ" but not make the cut-off -- it adds so much more stress to the process.

    1. Thank you!
Well apparently a lot of people BQ-ed so they had to put a limit on those who qualified.

  3. Oh too bad your sister did not get into Boston. I read about how it was much harder to get into this year. So many fast runners out there!! Have a great weekend

    1. Thanks Deborah, yes there must be so many runners in her age group.

  4. I'm still astonished at the BQ gap-- it's so hard for me to believe that people are getting that much faster!

    1. Maybe it's that a lot more people are trying for Boston now than before???

  5. A Halloween run sounds so fun! I think it'd be fun to dress like something scary since everyone is running. Have a great weekend!

  6. Awww, that sucks about Boston. That's the second runner I know that BQ'd but didn't get in.

I'm hoping to do a halloween trail race at the end of Oct, but it totally depends on the weather & whether or not we go out to visit the inlaws.

    1. Oh a Halloween trail race sounds fun (especially if the decorate it)! The one I'm doing is just through town.

  7. I'm so sorry about your sister :( I feel so bad for everyone that qualified but didn't make the cutoff.

That's so great that you signed up for the 5K. An easy costume would be an 80's runner. You can rock all the neon, a headband and leg warmers!

    1. I do feel bad for those who worked so hard to BQ and then told it still wasn't good enough!
      80's runner sounds great!

  8. I'm so sad to hear about Lacey not getting into Boston. I can only imagine how disappointing it must be to qualify, be on that high, and then find out that you didn't make the cutoff. :(

  9. Such a bummer for Lacey! I think they need to make the older age qualifications harder. The gap from 40 to 45 is 10 minutes and there are a few other ages that get 10. It should be five. Hopefully they'll fix it without making all the ages harder.

The heat was not for me! I was a very very unhappy runner. I runfess I was a big baby about it, too!

    1. Yea, if they are going to make a cut off, then that should just be the BQ time. No sense in having people get their hopes up once they BQ!

  10. I'm soon disappointed Lacey did not get a spot. It is harder and harder every year to earn a spot unless you are tons of time under the cutoff. :(

  11. Wow, that is such a bummer for your sister. I am so sorry. :(

I wore pants to school once so far. I really want to wear pants this weekend... I want to wear my fall shopping haul clothes!!!

    1. Today is October 2nd and the first day I wore pants! I probably could have worn another skirt or dress though as it was warm enough!

  13. That still angers me about you not getting your medal - I just dont understand how that happens.
    I wish our area had a Halloween 5k - I'd go just to watch... &dress up ;)

  14. Oh I would be crushed to have BQ'd and still not get in - I'm sorry for Lacey.

  15. I did a Halloween 5k in 2012. I didn't dress up, but I definitely went with an orange and black theme. there was also a kids race, and it was fun seeing all the kids in costume.

  16. Oh, so sorry for your sister! That absolutely stinks. I keep reading about the marathon cheaters and can't help but think of all the people who legitimately BQ and get squeezed out by them. And bummer you didn't get to wear your race medal when you AG placed! I've never run a Halloween-themed race - and Halloween is my birthday!!! I will have to start looking for one!

  17. Yay! I'm glad your medal showed up. My heart hurts for your sis and everyone who didn't make that Boston cut. Sigh.

  18. That's a total BQ bummer! A co-worker told me she has a friend who missed it by 13 seconds. It's crazy! ANd, you need to wear that medal to bed or to work!

  19. That's a bummer that your sister didn't get into Boston. I've heard it's getting tougher and tougher every year. I love September for the same reason you don't lol...it's the end of summer! But then again I live in one of the hottest states in America so...I have my reasons. ;-)

  20. You should put on the Medal and take your picture with it! You earned it!!

I'm with you on the heat, while everybody is hating it, im over here on my shorts loving the heat. Tomorrow will be a harsh reality

  22. You would think with all the Disney races I've done that i'd already have something planned!
