The end of summer
As Labor day approaches it's that time to reflect on what we accomplished over the summer. How did summer treat you? Was it relaxing? Was it Busy? Was it just crazy and you are glad to be back to a schedule?
It's no secret that I love summer! I could never get bored. We went back to school earlier this year than in the past and although I was originally bummed about it when I found out, I was totally at peace with it when it happened. I was happy with how my summer went and felt I had accomplished enough and that it was time to go back. Time to be back to a schedule.
I had spent a glorious week (with just the girls) at an all inclusive resort on the Yucatan Peninsula! This was a new vacation for me and I enjoyed every hot, sweaty minute of it.
Just like last summer, I ran one race each month. I hope to continue to uphold this summer tradition.
I spent some time with the grandparents. This is something I of course need to do more of. Went to the Circus with my Pap and went boating with my Nana.
Last summer I worked diligently on the outside of my home, this summer I worked on the inside. I painted trim, a fireplace, made curtains, and had a room professionally painted. We've been in our house for over 10 years now and I feel like we are in the second phase of decorating. Kind of like we got sick of (or grew out of) the way we decorated it originally. This room is still a work in progress.
Lastly, I spent a week with Scott at Disney's Animal Kingdom Lodge and then visited the Disney theme parks.
So although I never want summer to end, I realize that we must move on to another phase of our life, accomplish new tasks and making new memories. -M
How often do you redecorate your home?

I like to switch things up in our rental every once in awhile, but I can't really redecorate since we rent. Before we moved overseas, we used to do big projects on the house in the summer. One year we completely redid the the entire front yard - leveled with dirt, re-seeded, made landscape beds. It was a ton of work, but I loved that yard!
ReplyDeleteI bet it looked lovely and made it hard for you to leave.
DeleteWe need to redecorate so badly! My husband and I are currently in a standstill because we need to replace the carpeting upstairs and I want to put down wood. You'll get it when you read my post!
ReplyDeleteYea, carpeting can be tricky when you have new puppies!
DeleteSame for the same reasons.
DeleteI like the idea of a race a month. I guess I kind of do that without thinking about it but I have not had on in August. Looking forward to my next one in a few weeks. Thanks for the linkup!
ReplyDeleteIt's fun to do those over the summer since they are local ones but now I'm thinking of only one or two per season!
DeleteYou had a wonderful summer!! I am in denial that summer is done, but slowly brining out fall clothes.
ReplyDeleteHaha, me too. I haven't broke out the fall clothes yet though!
DeleteI'm kind of constantly tweaking my decorating...I don't usually do a complete do-over. That said, when we moved back to Iowa (15 years ago...YIKES!), and I walked into our rental, I nearly fainted. It was our first home together (it's a townhouse that we now rent in Iowa City...and hour away). Oh gosh...the dorky wall paper and brass everywhere! That did become an overhaul LOL
ReplyDeleteI'm trying to redecorate some other rooms without having to change the paint color on the walls. It's been fun!
DeleteSounds like a great summer. Mine was definitely busy! But no vacations. Nada. With no kids, we tend to take vacations during off seasons & I had my 3 trips during winter/spring & they were great -- although I'm ready for that next racecation.
ReplyDeleteWe don't redecorate often at all.
Since there is so much going on over the summer anyway, I too like to take trips in the "off season" but there were specific reasons as to why we took these trips during this time. Looking forward to seeing where your next racecation takes you!
DeleteI think we spent our summers in a very similar way. House stuff, lots of relaxing, but lots of fun stuff too! I am happy to be on a sked but not gonna lie... I miss the lazy summer days! We have off 4 days for Labor Day so I am "pretending" it's summer right now.
ReplyDeleteApproximately only 270 more days until we can do it all over again!
DeleteI am in that place with this house as well. We've been here over 16 years now and it's time to refresh. I love what you did! My kids have been in school since August 14 and I still think that was way too early to start.
ReplyDeleteThat is too early to start! Do they get out in the middle of May next year?
DeleteIt sounds like you had a great summer, including some memorable vacations in both Mexico and at Disney. Here's to another great season!
ReplyDeleteYes, I hope this fall holds some great memories as well.
DeleteIt looks like you had an awesome summer. I love that you were able to travel too!
ReplyDeleteTraveling is nice but I admit staying home is just as nice!
DeleteYou did so many fun things this summer! I'm really jealous of that all girls vaca!
ReplyDeleteThat was really fun. I look forward to the next one, wherever that may be!
DeleteWe've been in our place 11 years and I really want to redecorate but my husband doesn't. He's so resistant to change! I think I need to just start doing stuff!
ReplyDeleteYou've had a amazing summer! Hard to believe it's already over!
ReplyDeleteWhen my parents I moved into our house in Boston, we painted my room before all the furniture was moved in. It was yellow, I think, and I knew I wanted a new color. I chose a sea blue. About 8 years later, when I was in college, I repainted it. My dad did the ceiling paint because it needed a new coat, but I did the walls, a completely different coral color.
ReplyDeleteWe've been in our current home 18 years. Some things have never been touched and some things have been redecorated more than once! I'm at the phase where I need to redo the master bedroom (again). Are you for hire? What you've done looks lovely!
ReplyDeleteSounds like you had a great summer! I am always sad when the summer ends but fall is a good time of year. I would prefer to skip over winter though!
ReplyDeleteSounds like a fun summer! I wish I had more time to redecorate. Or decorate at all, actually. We moved in two years ago and aside from hanging a few paintings haven't done anything to the house. We need to paint!
ReplyDeleteLooks like an amazing summer! I was busy golfing mine away! I need to redecorate, it's been yes.
ReplyDeleteSummer totally flew by this year! We never redecorate, other than when we pick up new merch at the Disney parks and have to find room for it somewhere, lol.
