Stride Box Goodies!

This week's Tuesday's on the Run is about speed work.

Since speed work is something we both have to work on ( and we haven't been), I thought I would mention a few items that can help give us that extra push of speed during our long runs. Sometimes that extra speed comes from the fuel we use.

The same week my treadmill was delivered, I received my Stride Box too!

Some people may have heard of this, but those of you that have not. It is a monthly subscriptions to all things running. How cool is that? Each month you receive several samples to try out during your runs. With these samples comes a list with the description of each product.
This month the products included:
-Champion Naturals     -Bonk Breaker
-Honey Stinger.              -2Toms    -GU
-Hydration bottle w/ samples

Champion Naturals- "Support performance, sustain energy, and promote recovery with this great tasting intra-workout booster."

Honey Stinger- I have never had one of these but my sister is a fan and I have heard that these are very tasty. The new flavor I got was Gingersnap.

GU - These I use all the time during my long runs. I am so sick of the flavors that I have been using. I'm excited to try this new flavor out- salted watermelon.  Although I would never put salt on my watermelon,  because I think fruit is supposed to be sweet, but the salt I'm sure will be help during the run. This is even the official flavor of the Rock 'n' Roll marathon.

Bonk Breaker- I have never heard of this nutritional bar. But the flavor sure sounds yummy -Blueberry Oat. Consume during long runs or training sessions. This may be a nice substitute for a GU during a run.

2Toms- " A chafing solution in a convenient to use towelette application. Greatly reduces the friction that causes blisters, chafing, and irritation. " Do you remember that 2Toms was one of the prizes for our Scavenger Hunt?

I am fortunate that I don't have any problems with chafing during my runs. But this sounds like a great product to even take with you, if needed, during your long runs since its only a towelette, rather than the body glide that most of us use before our runs.

Hydration bottle- Although my cupboards are full of water bottles, I love the saying on this one "Good Runs Make Better Days". The samples that were in the bottle included:

Nuun-lemon lime and tri berry(which I have never tried those flavors)

ZYM electrolyte tablet. I have never heard of this one. I am sure this is similar to Nuun but this has 100 mg of caffeine. Although the flavor I got was grape. I hate grape flavored things. It reminds me when I was younger and took Dimeatap when I was sick. Is it just me?

Cocogo- Another form of electrolytes.  This is in a packet rather than a tablet. Ingredients include coconut water a real fruit. Of course one of the flavors is grape. The other one is raspberry-passion.

Have you tried Stride Box? What other subscription boxes have you tried? -L

  1. I've never disliked a GU flavor before and I've tried a lot of them, but I like my watermelon sweet, too. Still, I'd buy that flavor just to see what it's like. I liked the waffle Honey Stinger I tried a while back. I've had ZYM, too, and thought it was a lot like Nuun. It's fun to try new products!

I feel exactly the same way about anything grape flavored. Ewwww! And I do love being able to try new flavors of products I already love.

  5. The only subscription box I've tried so far has been StitchFix. But as my marathon training kicks off, I may need to look into the Stride Box.

    1. My sister did stitch fix the other month. I thought it was a bit pricey. But this is very reasonably priced.

  8. Looks like a good month for Stride Box. I subscribed last year for about six months. Some months were great, and others it was like throwing my money away. But that's the risk you take - and part of the fun. And I LOVE the salted watermelon GU!

    1. I always thought it was weird when I saw people put salt on watermelon or cantelope. Loved the watermelon GU. And will not be trying the grape flavored ones.

  10. Salted watermelon sounds intriguing. I've never done subscription boxes but I'm always picky about the stuff I eat before running.

    1. I've been wanting to take this on my run. But it's not as easy to pack as a GU. Guess I will have to take my other fuel belt when I want to eat this.

  16. Stridebox looks interesting - there were lots of items that I'd actually use. I have a Salted Watermelon Gu on hand but haven't had a long enough run yet to use it. Wonder if I'll like it as much as Salted Caramel? Love that water bottle, btw. :)

    1. Yes this was a good month for the box. I have never had the salted caramel but the watermelon one is delicious.

  18. I love 2Toms anti chafe stuff. It is what I use. I ahve tried getting in to Gu but it doesn't work for me. I use Margarita Shot Bloks. www.RunningwithSDMom.com

    1. I have never used 2Toms yet. I have always used the body glide. I have tried those shots as well. They were tasty. But I like how GU is smaller and quicker to get down.

  21. I've never tried a stride box, but I have tried Bestowed.
One thing I can NEVER stomach are GU, I made the mistake in my 2nd marathon to try one. After I finished throwing it up, immediately after, I have never had the desire to try them again. Maybe they are better now, or have better flavors, but I suspect that will be one thing I just take others word for, LOL
Nuun is something I do want to try someday, but haven't ever tasted it yet:)

    1. I have never heard of bestowed. Is that another runner box? I have heard that about GUs from other people but I have been fortunate enough that they don't bother me. Some flavors are better than others but I would think if you can stomach one, changing flavor wouldn't help bc it's still the same consistency.

  22. Looks like a fun subscription service – seems similar to RunnerBox, right? I subscribe to the Picky Club and Naturebox, but love subscriptions and would add some more if I had the money. I love Tri-Berry Nuun! I would definitely be interested in trying the chaffing towelette for during runs (would be easy to bring along in case there are any issues).

    1. Never heard of Runnerbox or Picky Club. I should look those up. I chose stridebox bc it was reasonably priced. I wonder if those others are. Yes a towelette would be much easier than a bodyglide stick to take w you on runs.

    1. Haha glad you got a kick out of that:) I hated that so much. I much would've preferred the cherry flavors over grape. I'm sure they have much better flavors now for young kids than they had back in the day.

  26. Those boxes always intrigue me, but I usually only like half the stuff. I am picky about what I use during runs and since GU works well, I stick with that. By the way, salted watermelon is yummy!

  30. This box is awesome! I love the Honey Stinger Waffles before a run, but I've never tried the gingersnap flavor. Lemon and vanilla are my favorite flavors. I'm very picky about my Nuun flavors but I love both the Lemon Lime and Tri Berry. They're actually my two favorites after cherry limeade!
