Runners, won't you participate with us?

Happy first week of May. We have a lot of fun things going on this month on the blog. Hopefully you will participate in them because YOU GUYS are what make it so fun!

First off, we are participating in a Summer Giveaway Blog hop this Friday hosted by the lovely Kristy from Runaway Bridal Planner.

There will be over a dozen bloggers giving away prizes. Our prize is three fold! That's right, one lucky reader will not only win one prize, not two prizes, but three really cool prizes that are useful. Believe me, you won't want to miss this one!

Our second fun thing is going to be happening on May 19th. No, I'm not talking about the season premiere of the Bachelorette. Yes, we watch this. We think it's stupid, but it just sucks us in, what can we say.  Speaking of the Bachelorette, did you ever notice that when the ladies are sent home on the Bachelor that they only ever have one piece of luggage?  Are they secretly hiding luggage some place else? I can't imagine they fit all those evening gowns in one suitcase. And speaking of gowns, do you think the contestants bring their own clothes from home, or do they pick outfits from a wardrobe closet?  I'd hate to be the girl that bought 12 gowns and then got sent home on the first night. Anyway..... back to the 19th.

On May 19th Fairytales and Fitness will be hosting a Summer Run Scavenger Hunt!

Be sure to check out our blog or facebook page on the 19th for a complete list of items you will have to "hunt" for along your runs.  Take pictures of the items and share them with us via Facebook or Twitter. And guess what, there are prizes too! Some of our favorite brands will be giving out prizes. We hope that you will play along!

Speaking of finding random things on a run...........

Ya know all those random pieces of clothing that we see along side of the road during our runs, the one sock, the one shoe, the random t-shirts rolled up in a ball, you know what I mean? Well, I am convinced that they were thrown there on purpose by a runner who started to get blisters or chafe mid run and couldn't stand it any longer!
That was almost me as I set out on a 10 mile walk on Monday. ( I was only walking mind you) and I got the hugest blisters on the back of my heels. It was my own  fault, I was given a pair of inserts to try  ( I used them during the Royal Family 5K  at Disney back in February and they gave me no problems). I think maybe this time they were just too thick in my shoes and my heel rubbed against the back of the insert with each step.   It started bothering me by mile 4. Even if I had wanted to turn around right then, I would still have to go four miles back to the start. So I figured if we were going 8 miles, why not just go 10.  That's was a big mistake because I still have those blisters on my heels and it hurts to walk.
The good news is that I think the cortisone shot in my hip seems to be working ( I went to my doctor last Monday and he convinced me to get one.  Apparently the reason I was not getting any better through PT was because I had an inflamed bursa.). When these blisters go away, I'll actually be able to go for a run and test out my "new hip".     ~M

So do you have any insight to my questions about the bachelor/bachelorette?
What one item would you add to the list to the Summer Run Scavenger Hunt?
What is your best advice for dealing with blisters that have already formed?

Thanks for reading guys!  Have a great Monday!

  3. Glad to hear the Cortisone shot is working. You need to get back out there and enjoy running now that springtime has arrived. I look forward to the scavenger hunt, although I don't usually see many unusual things when I run in my neighborhood!

  6. The scavenger hunt sounds like a lot of fun! One idea for an item to find: railroad of pedestrian crossing sign.

  7. I have started thinking about a cortisone shot but I hate needles and I know cortisone shouldn't be taken lightly. I just want my knee to heal but I'm guessing I won't be doing much running come summer. It's already hit the 90s in north Texas.

    1. I hate needles to. I am such a baby when I get blood drawn or anything. My doctor sprayed the area to kind of numb it first. ( but I could still feel the prick)

  11. I haven't watched the Bachelor since it first started, but I doubt the sending home is as immediate as they want it to look on TV. I'm sure they probably stash the girls in a hotel until they can book a flight and the crew probably loads up all of their other stuff off camera. There's probably a wardrobe department somewhere too. Maybe they set them up before the show airs.

    2. Yea, you are probably right. I just read somewhere that SO much of this show is staged. Not hard to believe, but it is entertaining.

  13. Thanks for the mention girls:) I am excited to have you join us for this one!!!
I love, love your fun scavenger hunt idea! So fun, I will for sure check back on the 19th for that!
Also, I am glad I am not the only one who is okay with admitting they watch the Bachelor and Bachelorette shoes:) One of my sisters and I watch it, we love to roll our eyes at everything.
I once heard the girls buy their own dresses. So hopefully they keep the tags on them, and only remove them as needed:) :)

    1. O yes, eye rolling for sure. We always pick out who's the biggest whiner ( out of the girls).

  15. Oh no!! I hate blisters. I hope they go away soon for you, and that you can try out your 'new' hip soon! I hope it feels better when you run! :0)

Can't wait to find out more on that scavenger hunt. I don't know if I'll be running, but I'll look for things on my walks!

I don't watch the Bachelorette, but I would guess that dresses are supplied to them by designers who want their outfits on the show.

  16. You know blisters put a halt on my last race... I need all the blister info I can get!

I always wondered how these girls had so many dresses myself. & traveling the WORLD with all their luggage? Its all a misty magical thing to me. Fairy Godmother stuff :)

  17. Sounds like a lot of fun things going on this month :)

Sorry to hear about your blisters – I feel your pain. I have two of the worst blisters I've ever had (one on the side of each foot), after running a half yesterday. Not sure why I got them, as I've worn the shoes and socks before for long runs, but they are very painful. I hope yours heal soon so you can go for a run and test out your hip!

I also get sucked into watching The Bachelor and The Bachelorette... it's just so entertaining and I can't help but tune in each week. Last season I even participated in a bracket haha. I always wondered about the one piece of luggage as well. Plus... they never know if they are going to be going to warm or cold locations during the weeks (if they keep getting roses), so I would guess they have more than one suitcase, and that the cocktail hour dresses are provided by designers/the show. I wasn't a big fan of Andi, so we'll see if I end up watching the entire season...

  20. LOVE the scavenger hunt idea, I want to do it!!! As far as the Bachelor/ette, I read somewhere that all the clothes they wear are their own. But seriously, I don't know anyone with THAT extensive of a cocktail dress wardrobe, it seems a bit crazy to me!

  21. The scavenger hunt sounds so fun, and it'll definitely encourage me to get out and run in the summer heat! Can't wait! :)

  24. I REALLY hope your hip issue is on the way out! I've heard the same about bursitis, (injecting it is the best cure), so that's really exciting for you that you'll back on the pain free, road soon.
