Don't get caught in a Running Store!

We are going to try something a bit different today. We are linking up with Amanda from Running With Spoons and her Think Out Loud Thursdays!
  ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
On my day off this week I decided to go to my local running store. I'm like a kid in a candy store when it comes to this, so I try not to go very often. But there were a few things I wanted to pick up.
1. Nuun- After receiving this at an Expo recently, I have been really enjoying this. I do believe it has helped me with staying hydrating during and after my runs. I bought the strawberry lemonade flavor since that's what I had tried before and just regular lemonade. I know, not too exciting on my flavors. Have you tried Nuun? If so what flavors do you like?
2. Aasic socks- I have been reading a lot of posts about socks that runners like. I did see a few of the brands there, but thought I'd go with the socks I normally wear, Aasic intensity. I have this thing about not wearing socks below the ankle. I can always feel the back of my heel rubbing against my sneaker, so I always go with the crew cut. But since it's summer, I have been getting quite the tan lines around my ankles and you really see this when I wear sandals. So I was looking for something similar but a lower cut. Luckily I did find the same brand in low cut, which was right above the ankle. Perfect! What kind of socks do you prefer and why?
3.GU chomps- I usually run with just the GU, but I think I've been using this so long that I am getting really sick of it. I really love gummies, so I thought I would try the chomps. I bought two packs of cranberry apple, since it was the flavor on sale. What do you fuel with during your runs?
 4. Motion control sports bra- I was not planning on buying one, since they are always so expensive(especially at running stores) but this one was on sale. Score! I was actually due for a good one. This one even had the built in padding. I have a few cheaper ones that the padding always falls out after I wash them. I guess you get what you pay for. What are some other brands that you like to run in?
 5. Run- After getting home, I was exciting to go for my run. I put on my new sports bra and socks, took a few chomps, and prepared my Nuun, and I was out the door. Why is it that after buying new running products your run seems to go so much better? I completed 6 miles at a decent pace that I haven't run in awhile. I even had one onlooker ask me, "What are you running off, you don't need to run." I just smiled and said thank you. I should have said, I like food way too much, that's why I run...haha. Do you find yourself doing better runs when you buy new products? Does anyone ever say anything to you while you're out on your runs?
  1. I love Nuun watermelon and cherry limeade flavors! A running store is a dangerous place for me too, and Lululemon just opened a pop up store here in Wilmington. I'm going today to try out some shorts. In a way, I hope they are too short! Favorite socks are Experia by Thorlos and I have never had a foot blister.
    1. I like the watermelon flavor too, but they didn't have that one at the store. There is a Lululemon in our area but I know not to go in there because it is pricey and I know I wouldn't be able to leave without buying things. I have heard many good things about Thorlos socks.
  2. I think it's a well proven fact that we perform better when we have new stuff and know that we look cute ;) I can't even walk into a store like Lululemon without wanting to buy out like... half of it... which is probably why I try to avoid going in there more than a few times a year lol.
    1. Yes I do believe that is true with runners! Lululemon has great products, but I think it's expensive, so I don't go in there often.
  3. I definitely feel the same way. I need blinders whenever I walk into my LRS, Dick's, Academy, any place where they have sports gear. Since I'm not really running ATM, I don't need a lot of new gear yet. I'll throw stuff on my Christmas list as I think of them.
    1. As much as I love supporting my LRS, it's nice to get coupons for retailers like Dick's. My Christmas list consists a lot of running related items as well. I think I am very easy to buy for.
  4. I love my Thorlos Experia socks. I haven't gotten a single blister or hot spot since I started wearing them, and they stay in place, which I haven't found to be the case with some other brands I've tried. I wear two different types of Champion sports bras, but my preferred (and of course more expensive) is the Powerback bras. Underwire isn't for every runner, but I find the extra support super helpful. And I've recently become a huge fan of Gu Shot Bloks.
    1. Thorlos socks seem to be very popular. I have not tried any sports bras with underwire. I'm not a huge fan of those. I think it'd be uncomfortable, but like you said not for everyone. I guess it's a good thing I don't need a lot of support in that area.
  5. The running store is always dangerous for me too. Haha.
    I recently tried Nuun for the first time as well. I have the Cherry Limeade which was pretty tasty. Plus its the one with caffeine, so a little extra boost.
    Socks are one of those I'm still trying to find "my" sock that I love. I have some adidas that work well, but have been looking to try out some others. I was considering giving the low ProCompression a try.
    1. I have not tried any of the ones with caffeine. After the pot of coffee I drink in the morning, I don't think I need any more of a boost:) Socks are like sneakers. There are so many great brands out there, you have to find the one that works for you. I have not run in any compression socks. I usually just where those for recovery.
  6. Haha yeah if I have a credit card and go into a runner store it's hard to say no to stuff!!
    I LOVE Nuun. My favorite way to get electrolytes besides coconut water. I wear Experia Thorlo socks, and my favorite bras are $20 at Academy by Adidas! Woo!
    1. I haven't had much luck with coconut waters. The ones I've tried were gross! Do you drink the flavored ones? Everyone is loving the Thorlo socks, I need to try these. What a steal with the sports bra! The one I bought was on sale for that much, but originally it was a $50.
    2. I just drink the Zico regular flavor. I've never tried the actual flavor ones, I hear they have a weird taste to them.
  7. Running stores are danger in a concrete box!
    I've tried Nuun. I have several tubes of it, but I prefer Gatorade. I just feel like it's more flavorful. I used to wear Moving Comfort bras, and then I discovered Lululemon's energy bras and I love them. They're actually slightly less expensive than the Moving Comfort ones. I've gained some weight, though, so I'm finding the ones I have not as supportive. I guess the answer is to either size up or lose some weight!
    1. I agree that Gatorade has more flavor. However, I like Nuun because it has no sugar and only 7 calories. I'm surprised to hear that Lululemon bras are less expensive. I always think that brand is pricier than others. The only reason I purchased the Moving Comfort was because it was on sale. Guess I hit it at the right time.
  8. I just tried nuun for the first time last weekend since I had some free samples. I didn't love the flavor but I did feel better afterward so I think I'm going to experiment until I find one I like. I also had to recently buy some new socks because I had been using the ones below my ankle but that has resulted in my shoes rubbing weirdly on the back of my foot recently. I haven't tried fueling during a run yet but I'm going to have to start experimenting with that soon too.
    1. Nuun has many different flavors. I'm sure you will be able to find one you like. That's the same reason why I don't like socks below the ankle. Glad that I finally found a pair that were low enough, but not too low that they rubbed. Good luck on finding a pair. I've been hearing many great things about Experia Thorlo socks.
  9. New products always make a run feel better :)
    Sports bras in running stores? Break the bank! good deal on getting a bargain!
    1. Yes, it was a great deal. They even had this chart on the wall in the dressing room on how you know if the bra is a proper fit. It was a perfect fit! Although for the price, I think I would've made it fit regardless:)
  10. I think its a mind thing, its just fun to run and play in new stuff. I can't think of a better feeling then taking the first run in a new pair of shoes... Hmmmm I think I need new shoes:)
    1. Yes I totally agree with you. I love getting new shoes. I seem to go so much faster on my first run in my new ones. I know I didn't need new shoes the other day though, so I refrained from going towards that direction of the store:)
  11. I really like fruit punch and strawberry lemonade. I haven't tried watermelon yet, but I'm sure I'd like it. I usually wear Feetures socks, but I'm going to check out the Thorlos. I've been playing around with different kinds of fuel, but my favorite so far are Clif Shot Bloks. I'm on the search for a great sports bra, and am currently testing out some New Balance ones that are working pretty well, so far. I personally think having some new gear/running items makes you happy and motivates you on the run. At least, that's how it is for me. I get so excited to test stuff out, and so the runs go well because I'm in a happy state of mind :)
    1. Yes it's true. You do have a better mind set when you have new things you're trying out. I couldn't wait to get back and go for a run after shopping. Even though it was in the 80s. I have tried the shot blocks but didn't care for the flavor I had(it was margarita) Maybe I just need to try a different flavor. Feetures and Thorlos have been the most popular I've been hearing about.
  12. I love Nuun - strawberry lemonade is my all-time favorite. I recently tried cherry limeade, and it's OK, but I'll go back my first love when I'm finished with this tube.
    Our running store had a fire last month so I've been in withdrawals. This was the only one within about 90 miles. I hope they can get their rebuild finished soon!
    1. I have tried cherry limeade in the mio and didn't like it, so I probably won't try it in the Nuun. Even though I haven't tried many flavors, you know to just stick with what you like and I know I like the strawberry lemonade as well. I hope they get that running store up and running soon!
  13. you look good, you feel good, right? i love nuun. grape is probably my favorite flavor! i like feetures socks :)
  14. Yes and yes! That is probably my least favorite flavor in anything. I always think that taste like dimeatap that I used to take when I was younger and sick! I have never tried feetures socks.
  15. As soon as I buy new stuff I want to use it all at once- new running shoes, clothes, food, doesn't matter. As soon as the shopping bags cross the doorway into my house I'm ready to go!
    1. Haha, I am the same way. Right after I took that picture I put those socks and bra on. I filled up my water bottle with Nuun, grabbed my chomps, and I was out the door!
    1. For me it's just the running store, because I'm not a huge shopper in regular retail stores. My runs go so much better when trying new products out. Maybe it's just in my head:)
  20. I LOVE GU chomps! They are my fave! I love the orange, lemon, and blueberry pomegranate flavors!!!!
    1. This has been the first time I have tried those, and I really do enjoy them. I may be switching to them instead of the regular GU for my future races. Those flavors all sound good! My cranberry apple ones weren't too bad.
  21. I've been wanting to try the Gu chomps! I've used Clif bloks for as long as I can remember, and thought it might be nice to switch it up. Also, LOVE Nuun, can't get enough of the stuff. My favorite is the cherry limeade and the Kona cola...it tastes like flat soda to me, and for some reason, I've always stirred the bubbles out of my soda because I prefer the taste that way, haha. Running with new gear/treats is the BEST, but I'm like you...running stores can be a very, very dangerous thing... :)
  22. My runs always rock when I have new gear/fuel! ;) I love nuun for my long runs. My favourite flavour is the cherry lime. :D
