Our First Coffee Date

Good Morning, and what a lovely morning it is! We don't usually post on Saturdays but I was feeling kind of chatty so I thought I would link up with the gals for their Ultimate Coffee Date.

I actually met up with my sister for a coffee date yesterday, where we got iced coffee at Dunkin. I was sad to see that the Girl Scout Cookie flavors are now gone, but sort of relieved too as now it has forced me to try some other flavors!  They now have some "ice cream" flavors. I had the Pistachio and Lacey had Cookies and Cream!

However, If I were meeting up with our Blogger friends for coffee, I'd want to talk about blogs!

First off, I normally receive all my blog comments via email. As soon as someone leaves a comment, I get an email notifying me.  That all of a sudden just stopped. I thought it was just my blog and that I messed something up, but I found out that it is not.  I was on a blogger group board and it is happening to a lot of people. They think it has something to do with a new security thing. If this has happened to you, do you know how to fix it?

If I were meeting up with Blogger friends for coffee the second thing I would want to discuss would be Network blogs! Ever since we started our blog we've been connected to Network Blogs which is a system that automatically post our blog post to Facebook and Twitter.  I spend very little time on these two platforms so Network Blogs has been an awesome way for us to save time and still have our blog posts out there. Well a notice came out this week that Network Blogs is going away.  For anyone else that used Network Blogs, what will you be using now? Will you get a paid subscription to a similar service or are there other free services out there?

If I were meeting up with Blogger friends for coffee I would also want to talk about Link Ups. We've been noticing several bloggers are linking one blog post up with several link ups. It's certainly okay to double dip now and then if your blog post is appropriate. However, if one is following the rules, it is highly unlikely that the same blog post that is appropriate for the Friday 5 (quick post), is appropriate for Tuesday's on the Run, Weekly Wrap, Fitness Friday, Coache's Corner, and several other link ups. Not only that, but those who link up the same post with multiple link ups, do they really take the time to visit other posts on each of the link ups they are visiting or are they just dropping a link and leaving?   So if I were sipping coffee with blogger friends I'd want to discuss that.

Wow, seems like I'm pretty chatty over coffee! It's your turn. Lets talk blogging. Can you answer any of my questions? -M

Thanks Coco and Deborah for the invite!

  1. I'm so glad you joined us for coffee! Did you know it was National Donut Day yesterday? I missed out on "celebrating" it. ;-) I'd love to chat with you about blogging. I think some link-ups are more liberal than others. We've kicked out a few posts that were completely irrelevant, didn't mention the link-up and they didn't comment. #sorrynotsorry But, most people play nice. I'm on Wordpress which has built-in sharing to FB and Twitter .... My email comment system is working, but I've heard it may be a source of some hacking I experienced since it hasn't been updated in years, so I might try to replace it anyway. #bloggerwoes

  2. I use co-schedule which posts my blogs to twitter fb and pinterest and I am happy with it. I think it's ok to use the same post for a link up if it fits the theme ok. It seems like a lot of people do this. I always try to visit as many posts in a link up as I can to get more interaction. Thanks for joining us for the coffee date today

  3. My email sharing system is working as well. I suspect the new privacy guidelines are at play. We're pretty liberal with what is linked up on Tuesdays on the Run but if a blogger links more than one post, I only read one, and if someone throws down links and never comments, I don't reciprocate either.

  4. I am very thoughtful with the link ups but I have noticed the same thing. I think in some cases you can do it thoughtfully but in many it just doesn't work. I will not comment on posts that don't have any relation to the link up. It's just my thing.

  5. I'm not getting comment emails either, and it just started last week. I haven't figured out how to fix it, but since there's a comment section in my settings, I can check there to see when people have posted a comment.

    1. I forgot about the comment section but I really liked just getting the comments automatically in my inbox.

  6. No one on the Blogger platform is getting email comments and Google isn't responding to anyone's concerns. It's odd. And annoying.

I'm not as upset about people who post on multiple linkups as I am about people who link and leave. It's just so rude to drop a link and not comment on at least the hosts' blogs, not to mention a few other linkers. It's really rude and it makes me wonder what those people are like IRL. The whole point of the linkup is to share and grow. As a host of a linkup, I've stopped commenting on people who do that. I'd delete those links if I could, but I don't hold the keys to the linkup.

    1. If I see the same people consistently linking up and not commenting on blogs, I will just move on to the next blog.

  7. I am not getting my email notifications anymore either (I'm on Blogger). At least I can go into my "comments" page (?) and see all the recent ones (and which post the comments are from). I don't mind the posts that "go multiple," but I do get frustrated when you comment on some blogs and they don't reciprocate. I try to read/comment on as many linked posts as I can, but (like others have noted) I don't continue reading/commenting on bloggers who never respond back.

    1. It seems like I keep giving the same bloggers the benefit of the doubt but pretty soon I'm just going to move on.

  8. Blogger/Google is aware of the no email notifications, but so far they haven't fixed it. It's annoying and I can't believe it's taking so long to get the fix done.

    1. I know right! I WANT MY COMMENTS BACK VIA EMAIL! Do you think it will just come back automatically or do you think we will have to do something different with out blog to get it back?

  9. Your Friday 5 is actually the only thing I link up to! It's my fav because you can pretty much discuss anything as long as it's 5 quick things or just one quick post. I do try very hard to visit most of the bogs who linked up. I don't comment on every single one because I don't always have something to say. (ME WITH NOTHING TO SAY!!!?? hahaha!)

Girl, I am not getting emails either. I used to get them for most people, now I don't get any. It is really keeping me on my toes, but I am missing replying to comments here and there...

    1. I'm missing the comments too. I don't like having to check the blog each time for comments.

  10. Yes let's talk blogging! I used to get emails when people would comment but I actually disabled it on Wordpres because I get too many emails as it is. I'm not sure what changed with Blogger though.

I used to use NetworkedBlogs a long time ago, but you could use dlvr.it, Coschedule, and I think Bloglovin used to have automatic posting on social media as well. There are a few options.

Whenever I post on multiple linkups, I make sure they're relevant to the topic. And I always visit all the linkups I sign up to...time consuming, but it's the right thing to do!

    1. Thanks for the suggestions on those other platforms. I'll be looking into those.

  11. How did I miss Donut Day and FREE donuts?! Ridiculous! I am so glad you brought up some of these blog-topics. I can't speak to the first two since I am on WordPress so some of those sharing things and notifications are built in...but link ups! I barely get comments anymore and I do think it's because of the dump and go thing...makes me re-think linking up to those and just stick with the link ups that get comments and visits for me.

  12. I do notice for link ups that some people just drop links and go... See, I need to follow rules, and because I can't look at all the friday Five post, I don't always link up. I'll work on it, friday Fives is one of my favorite link ups!

  13. I am no longer receiving email notifications when I get blog comments, either. It looks like it is a known issue that blogger is working on. I think it is related to the new GPDR requirements. It's really frustrating, isn't it?

Those Dunkin' Donuts look awesome. I'm still eating relatively healthy after the detox I just went through, but I'm planning on a splurge soon. Donuts might hit the spot!

  14. Ice cream flavors sound so good! I may have to try some, haha. *-*

I feel ya on the linkups--I run a recipe one every Friday and some repeat offenders like linking every one of their posts into em' even when they barely have anything to do with food (sigh)!

  15. I'm on Wordpress and everything seems to be working as usual over here. I agree with you in that if you are linking to multiple linkups, make sure it is relevant to all linkups!

And now, for some reason ..I'm craving donuts! :)
