What made it so fabulous is that this is a vacation where Baylee can come too!
While we were there, my family came to visit. (Hence my dad was with us watching the season finale of the Bachelorette on Monday night. Did you get to read that post?)
I must admit that no running took place until Friday and even then it was only 3 miles and it was a struggle between the heat and my tight calf that had returned. But really I have no right to complain about the tight calf because I did no stretching or cross training all week.
So here is a little bit of what we were up to at the lake!
One evening we did a dinner cruise on the Proud Mary paddle wheel boat. The food was amazing, and we especially enjoyed the cruise and seeing more of the resort area via waterway.
Girls and their dogs! |
We visited this overlook that gave us some amazing views of part of the lake we hadn't seen the days before. Side Note: While we were at the overlook there was a family there from Texas ( I assume they were from Texas by their accent and the license plate on their truck), and the one boy (at least 10 years old) was throwing rocks down below. There were boaters and water skiers down there at the time. I doubt he had good enough aim to hit anyone, but still. The adults that were with him should have stopped him.
One of the days we went to Trough Creek State Park. I don't think Baylee was a fan of crossing the suspension bridge and Rainbow falls was pretty much dried up!
Remember how I hiked Bushkill Falls and Ricketts Glen earlier this summer and I said they were both dog friendly but I would never take Baylee there? Well, this park was also dog friendly and we DID take Baylee. If I would have known the terrain ahead of time I would not have brought her. It was challenging enough for just Scott and I let alone a 10 year old dog.
This is just a sampling of the rocky and steep terrain. This was the only route so we had to go this way. The people off to the left are just looking at the dried up falls. That was not an alternative route.
Apparently the main attraction of the hike is the Balanced Rock. I guess it's pretty cool. When we got back down to the parking lot you could see it sticking out among all the trees. It was amazing to see that we had hiked up that far.
Looks like we are missing Belle! |
If we remember to link up, we will be linking up with HoHo and MissSippiPiddlin for their weekly wrap!
I can see why Baylee didn't want to cross that suspension bridge - she was all, "Mom, I'm not ready for anything with the words "rainbow" and "bridge" so close together!" ;)
ReplyDeleteWhat a fun family vacation, and yes, dogs are part of the family so it's great that you could bring them. I know dogs just like to be with their peeps and I'm sure they were so happy - you can see it in their faces. Sweet pups.
OMG, I never gave it a thought about the words "Rainbow" and "bridge". Good observation Shelley! I think she didn't like the way the bridge swayed a little. And actually there were some tiny gaps in some of the boards. Other than that, it was pretty safe!
DeleteObviously we can't take our cats on vacation, but that doesn't stop us from saying, "I wish the kitties were here!" Or, "If the kitties where here, what would they be doing right now?"
ReplyDeleteI love how Baylee always looks like she is smiling in photographs. She is a lucky little dog to have someone like you who makes sure she gets to get out and ENJOY LIFE! :)
I keep telling her she is so lucky that she has a momma that loves her so much!
DeleteLooks like you all had a great trip! Glad you were able to find somewhere to go where you could bring the dogs!
ReplyDeleteYes, having the dogs there made is great!!
DeleteLooks beautiful there! Yes, we always take our dog on trips with us. Our last dog, Cleo, even road tripped to Florida twice!
ReplyDeleteSomeone should have thrown a rock at that kid. Or maybe his parents! WTH?
I love that you include your dog on your trips!
DeleteI would definitely enjoy a vacation more if I had my dogs with me. One of my dogs does not travel well. She gets car sick, even with medication. So, we board both of them when we travel. A lake vacation sounds perfect to me! Your scenic hikes sound like fun too. Thanks for linking, Meranda!
ReplyDeleteI just wish more places were dog friendly so we could take her more often! Sorry your pups get car sick.
DeleteBeautiful pics! That balanced rock is amazing. Looks like you both had a lot of fun and relaxation!
ReplyDeleteI love that you were able to bring your dog, she looks like she had a great time! So pretty there my dog would love it too. He doesn't usually get to come on vacation with us.
ReplyDeleteDogs are so much easier to take than cats. When my parents and I actually camped, we took our dogs once. The golden got car sick and the beagle wasn't impressed with nature. Talk about city dogs!
ReplyDeleteAww poor doggies! Yea, I don't know if my dogs would like camping either. They are used to all their comforts of home!
DeleteYay for your vacation and bringing your pet! I hope you had a great time and were able to relax!!
ReplyDeleteLove the pictures of Baylee! It looks like you had an awesome trip with some amazing sights! I still need to add Ricketts Glen to my bucket list too!
ReplyDeleteHow wonderful to have a family vacation at the lake house! It looks like it was great fun!
ReplyDeleteI have to check your this park! going on my list right now!
Awww... this looks like a great family vacation. I love how the dogs could accompany you guys for most things. It seems like everyone had fun, human and canine :)
ReplyDeleteAwww! Love that the dogs went on the boat and hiking with you! All the pictures are awesome! We take our dog anywhere we can drive (West Virginia, Virginia, New York, etc.) but I am always cautious about not making him do too much so we usually do shorter hikes.
ReplyDeleteHa my dog wears a life vest too when he kayaks with me! That's the only boat we have. Your trip to the Lake House looks so fun and wow I think I'd be nervous going over the suspension bridge too. I'm so glad you two have stuck with us in the WW! It is ladies like you who make it what it is! Hope you both have a great week!
ReplyDeleteBeing able to have your pet on vacay is such a blessing. I'm missing our royal hound!
ReplyDeleteWe try to take our cat with us when we can. Depends where we go.
ReplyDeleteI do not have a dog and didn't realize they made life jackets for them.
