Some photos are just what you see on the surface and some have a bit of a story behind them that you would never know unless told. Today we are sharing some pictures from our favorite race weekends that require a little more explanation.
* Some of these were previously shared on Instagram.
The following two pictures were taken during the Tinkerbell Race Weekend at Disneyland in California last year.
It was the day of the 10K race. We decided to celebrate by visiting California Adventure park. We were waiting in line to get a picture with "Director" Mickey and all of a sudden Mickey decides that he needs to leave (perhaps he is not feeling well?). He bolts out of line, trips over these water bottles, and almost steps on Lacey's phone that was knocked out of her hand. I had no idea that I captured part of it in a picture until I looked at my phone later in the day. We've never seen this mouse move so fast!
On the surface this just looks like a happy family posing with Pluto, right? Well in reality, just moments before, a rambunctious Pluto was excited to greet Lacey and accidentally hit her in the face with his hard plastic nose. The result was a bloody nose for Lacey. We got her cleaned up and then posed for our picture.
What's the best thing to see at the finish line of your first Marathon? A Golden Retriever, obviously!
This was taken after we completed the Disney World Marathon last year. You remember how much pain I was in right? Well as I was hobbling to the massage tent this Golden Retriever came up to us. He must have known that we needed some comforting after 26.2 (no make that 39.3) miles! If I remember correctly I think he was a therapy dog and he indeed was the best post race therapy since we were away from our own retrievers at home!
This of course was a photobomb by Ronald McDonald. This photo was taken at the Shamrock Marathon and Lacey had no idea who was behind her. Kind of creepy huh?
Tell us a story about one of your race photos.

We will be linking up with the gals from TOTR.
OMG these are all priceless! Poor Lacey with a bloody nose from Pluto! So crazy how those therapy dogs just know who needs them. No worries on getting the topics mixed. It's all good! Thanks for linking!
ReplyDeleteThanks Marcia! Seeing that therapy dog was the best. Who wouldn't want some retriever cuddles after a race!
DeleteOh my gosh!! Hearing the story behind the picture is crazy..you never knew what happened right before or after! If you like the show How I Met Your Mother, there's an episode about this! It's so funny...revolves around a picture taken at brunch and goes into each character's story that led to taking the picture.
ReplyDeleteOh I love that show. I've only watched it in reruns though so don't think I've seen that episode.
DeleteThese are all amazing! I love the photobomb from Ronald McDonald!
ReplyDeleteIt was very odd.
DeleteYikes, that bloody nose from Pluto sounds awful but you can't tell in the photo at all! Very impressive clean up :)
ReplyDeleteThanks. For some reason I feel like I get them all the time w the slightest bump.
DeleteI love seeing dogs at races. When I did Shamrock, I stopped and pet every dog that came out to see the race. I think my running buddy was getting sick of me stopping every few blocks at the start. I just couldn't help it, they are all so cute!!!!
ReplyDeleteIt's hard for me not to stop either when I see them along the course.
DeleteI ALWAYS love the story behind the pic.
ReplyDeletePoor Mickey - hope he/she was OK.
A dog at a finish line will always make the pain better.
Ronnie McD... kinda creepy. I'm not a clown fan.
Neither am I!
DeleteThese are great! It's always fun to look back on race pics and remember the good and bad. Every race has a story right?
ReplyDeleteThose are quite the stories! Poor Lacey and the bloody nose! Glad all was ok! Love the golden retriever photo!
ReplyDeleteHe was the cutest!
DeleteThose are all great photos -- and the stories behind them are even better!
ReplyDeleteNow I think RDs should have puppies & kittens waiting for us at the finish line. :)
They should. It was make for a great finish.
DeleteOh no! Mickey had an emergency! That is a funny picture!
ReplyDeletePoor Lacey with her bloody nose!!
I wonder what it was. He never came back out.
DeleteI hope Mickey was OK. If you have an emergency, you gotta go.
ReplyDeleteI love the picture I took with Oswald before Tink this year. I'd missed the cutoff for the Evil Queen in DL right before lunch, and I nearly bolted over to Oswald. I was not missing THAT picture.
It stinks when you wait in line for a character then it doesn't happen.
DeleteThis was great. And yeah, Ronald is kind of creepy.
ReplyDeleteYes he is.
Deleteawh love these photos! Poor Lacey!! And Golden's make everything better. I love the finish line photo I have with my hubby after his first half!
ReplyDeleteThey really do.
DeleteI absolutely LOVE hearing the extra details behind Instagram photos! The stories behind these photos are all so funny - especially the one about Mickey darting away at a moment's notice like that! HILARIOUS.
ReplyDeleteAt the time we were so confused thinking where the heck are you going and watch where you are stepping.
DeleteThese are hilarious and the stories make them so much better! I wish I could include a picture, but one of my favorites is of my friend after she finished the Tinkerbell Half Marathon last year (earning 4 medals - 10 k, half, pixie dust, and coast to coast) - she has one medal in her mouth, one in each hand, and one around her neck (complete with sassy stance). Story is that she registered to run it the previous two years, but got pregnant each year and couldn't do it. So when she finally was able to go and run, it was a big deal! The pose has become a little iconic now and has been repeated multiple times. :)
ReplyDeleteOh how fun! Glad she was able to finally run in.
DeleteUgh, Ronald's face is SO CREEPY!!!!
ReplyDeleteI love that Mickey picture. I wonder why he had to bolt?! There are very rarely funny stories behind my pictures. Sometimes in race pictures, I'm smiling and waving but in my head I'm screaming the F word lol.
I think we all scream that in our head at some point during a tough race. Looks can be deceiving:)
DeleteLuckily my phone was in its case so he didn't step on it.
ReplyDeleteWe will have to be careful next time we head to Disneyland.
ReplyDeleteThat was a perfect ending to a race.
I love this take on the normal pictures we post. Man, getting a bloody nose by Pluto should mean an extra fastpass or something. lol
ReplyDeleteClowns kind of creep me out...even ones that I recognize LOL Did she turn around and scream when she saw him...lurking....?
ReplyDeleteThis is just too funny ..if you hadn't explained, I would have thought Mickey was just 'skipping' around! haha And yes, Ronald is looking pretty much like a creepster! Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteWow! It actually looks fun. Nice photos! I love this post. ^^
ReplyDeleteEek - that Ronald McDonald pic is super creepy! But just looking at the pic you might assume that she was posing with him. So very true there's a story behind every pic :)
ReplyDeleteI agree, the Ronald McDonald pic is creepy! Fun post :)
