Five Dream Vacations

This week's theme for the Friday Five is Five dream vacations.
I will say the we are definitely two gals who love to travel and we are very fortunate to have visited a lot of places in the world. With that being said, I honestly have no desire to travel that far from home anymore (maybe that will change in the future). I know a lot of that has to do with my dog, but really I just don't have the desire, especially in the state of distress many countries seem to be experiencing lately. And, I don't like to fly long distances!

I will share five wonderful vacations that we have already experienced and maybe some of you will catch that travel bug!

Of course Disney is one of our favorite places to visit but that would be too obvious for us to list, right?

1. England : Highlights of the trip included touring the Tower of London, seeing Les Miserables at
the Palace Theatre, riding the London Underground  (the tube), visiting Buckingham Palace and the Changing of the Guards (as we tried to get the guard to crack a smile), Warwick Castle, and the Thames River Cruise.

2. Ireland: Highlights include visiting Blarney Castle ( and kissing the Blarney stone which gives you the gift of gab), visiting the Rock of Cashel, the Dingle Peninsula, seeing a real gypsy wagon, entertaining music at St.John Gogerty's Irish pub in Dublin, seeing U2's apartment, and seeing To Dance on the Moon, a traditional Irish song and dance performance.

3. Jamaica:  This was one of my favorite vacations because I am a warm weather gal.  My favorite activities hands down were climbing Dunn's River Falls and Swimming with the dolphins.

4. Alaska: This was never one of my dream destinations, but it was Scott's so that is why we went. I have to admit, I really enjoyed it. Highlights include Whale watching (and seeing sea lions), and riding the train through the White Pass and Yukon Route. There is just SO much history here .I loved it!

5. Cruises: It doesn't matter where the destination is. I love to be on a cruise ship. I've gone to Bahamas, Grand Cayman Island, Nova Scotia, Key West, and Mexico just to name a few. If you ever get to go on a cruise ship DO IT. It is definitely a blast and really NOT about the destination at all. It's definitely about the journey!

I will also give New York City an honorable mention. We live so close so it's not really a travel destination, but we LOVE going onto the city, especially this time of year. If you've never been to NYC, it is a must do. We love central park,  going to the museums, going to Radio City Music Hall for the Rockett's Christmas Spectacular, seeing the tree in Rockafeller Center and just all the festivities that come with it. Next year (when I'm not in marathon training) I definitely want to ice skate at Trump rink!

  1. I have never been to Ireland but loved visiting each of these other places. I think about our good time in Jamaica every time I make jerk chicken...which I ate every single day when we were there! I would love to take a running cruise!! There's one that cruises Alaska's Inside Passage and make running/touring stops along the way!!

  3. My dream vaycay is Hawaii! We had to cancel our trip but I have the entire itinerary saved, so when we can go, it is going to be epic! And we could go last min if the opportunity arose since I already researched everything!

  4. I've been thinking about going on a European/Mediterranean cruise! I've heard mixed things about them, but you can't beat the price and the views.

  5. We have done a few Med cruises and they are a great way to see a bunch of places in a short amount of time. My fave was through the Greek Isles.

  9. I loved the cruise my parents and I did years ago. You can go to sleep on the ship, wake up in the next port of call, and you're off on a tour :) We got to a number of countries on that cruise.

  10. Some of my favorite vacations are: (1) Safari tour of South Africa (the true Kilimajari!); (2) Canadian Rockies (beautiful); (3) Australia and New Zealand; (4) Bavarian Alps (including Germany, Austria, Switzerland) plus France; and (5) Caribbean cruise. We go on a trip like this every other year, and the off years are Disney trips! We've been to WDW many times, as well as DL in California, as well as DL Paris. I also hate flying long distances, but it is always worth it!

  13. I agree about the cruises. They are the ultimate vacations. We want to take our kids on a Disney cruise soon. My son's not quite old enough yet, but one day soon we will take them for their first and I just know it will be so magical. Because, you know, it's Disney...... on a cruise.

  17. My husband and I did a trip to Ireland back in 2010. It was so much fun. We saw lots of the same things you mention. I haven't done Alaska yet - I worry the mosquitoes would drain me! And haven't done a cruise, either. So many places to see!

  19. Love Alaska, we did a cruise for our honeymoon (husband decided he isn't a big fan of cruises, but liked Alaska), we definitely plan on going back.

I went to London with my family while in college, my sister was living there briefly. I'd didn't get a huge say in the planning though, I enjoyed it but would like another trip that I'm more involved in.

  20. I've only been on one cruise, but it was amazing! I love that you can visit so many places on one trip! Alaska, Jamaica, and Ireland are the ones I've never visited. That's so cool that you've been!

  22. I'm a bit jealous, I would love to travel to Ireland, that one is definitely on my bucket list!!!!
Alaska I totally agree I loved it there, so much to do and see I spent half a month there and it was not nearly enough, LOL
I did the same thing in Jamaica when I visited, the falls, if I ever get to go back I would love to hit up some of the mountains areas, its such a big island I know there is tons more there I would love to do.
I've been on a few cruises, I do enjoy them a little but they are not my favorite I only go when my one friend asks, LOL I just get bored on the boat and don't like to have to only have a few hours or part of a day at ports, I always feel rushed and never get to do even a bit of what I want. However, I do like getting a tan, and cruses are pretty much a given for that, especially days at see laying out for like 10 hours, LOL LOL

    2. Ziplining in the CostaRican rain forest.
    3. Biking the Tuscan country side.
    4. Paris and London via chunnel.
    5. The Greek islands.
