Get a Running Journal

Happy Friday folks!

We hope everyone had a fun or relaxing New Year's. Ours was a little bit of both. Now that it is 2015, it's time to look at what lays ahead for the new year. Last year on New Years Eve I took down my calendar and tallied up all my miles for the year. I was quite impressed and I told myself that would be my New Years Eve tradition each year.

I had a training journal in 2014 so that is how I logged most of my miles ( the ones I remembered to log anyway).  Logging my progress was very important for me this past year because I was injured A LOT. The journal I used allowed me to not only keep track of my distance, but also where I ran, what shoes I wore, the weather conditions and how I felt during the run. At first I thought it may be a little too much as it felt like I was writing in a diary, but looking back now, I am glad that I recorded all that data.

The great folks at Gone For A Run are making sure I can continue to log my miles for 2015. They sent me one of their new Running Journals.

1.  They come in a multitude of fun designs and you can even make yours customized.

Another fun thing is that the cover clips on and off so you can use the cover again once you fill up this journal and move it to the next one you get.

3. I'm loving the pages in this journal. It has a place for everything you would want to keep track of.

As an added bonus there is an inspirational quote on each page.

4. This section of the journal allows you to tally up your miles for the week or month.

5. These next parts of the journal are my favorite and something I have not seen in other running journals. Not only can you keep track of your training runs, but there is a section to keep track of the races you've run.

I know I keep track of all my race times (somewhere), but it is now nice to have them all in one place.

I love this page that allows you to keep track of PR's. Just be sure to write in pencil on this page...lol
Below it lets you keep a list of your bucket list races.

This page is actually genius. It lets you keep track of all the races you've registered for!

Last but not least is a notes section.

So what do you think? A great way to start off the new year don't ya think?  If you want more information go to Gone For A Run.

How do you keep track of your runs or workouts?

We were provided free Running Journals courtesy of Gone For A Run.  If you are a fan of Gone For A Run products please be sure to meet up with us in WDW for the marathon meet up next week.  There will be some GFAR prizes given away.

  5. I just a simple notebook and keep track of all my workouts. Yes, they are fun to use and I do look back occasionally to see what I did during a certain training cycle!

    1. I actually enjoyed looking back and seeing what all I did last year. It actually surprised me that I did as much as I did since I was injured most of the year!

  6. I just realized that I don't have a journal for this year!! I was so sick and forgot to order one!! Ahhh!! I better get on that!

  7. Old-school writing on paper versus some kind of app. I like!

  8. That's a great journal, I love the bucket list races section! I am pretty lazy, I just let my Garmin keep track of my mileage!

    1. Oh I need to write mine down. I don't always trust technology. (although I bet technology is probably more accurate then I am...lol)

  9. I've been seeing more journals for running lately. Maybe it's time I invest in one for myself instead of allowing my apps to calculate everything. Such a great idea with a clean layout.

  10. I hadn't though to do this, I just lat garmin or runkeeper track. But I realized that meant I didn't have a log of treadmill miles then. I hadn't heard of these journals before but they sound like a great idea.

  11. Last year I kept track of my runs usring dailymile and an online runners world training log. This year I am making the switch back to pen and paper - now I just need it to come in the mail! I'll probably still use daily mile too though, we'll see.

  12. I love that journal! Will definitely look into getting one. I currently use 3 things: 1) a paper journal that's just a cheap blank notebook to record miles, pace, time, where I ran, weather & how I felt; 2) dailymile.com, which records the same things electronically; 3) a spreadsheet of my training plan where I record the scheduled & actual mileage. In other words, I love tracking!!!

  13. That looks like a great journal! I personally prefer electronic forms of tracking, but as long as you're keeping track of your progress it doesn't matter how you do it!

  14. I track my runs with Nike+ and Runkeeper, not to mention through my blog! These journals look really nice though!

  15. I'm not a big runner, but I do keep track of mileage on DailyMile.com. I also just started a spreadsheet on GoogleSheets when I was on the treadmill yesterday. Maybe this year will be my year!

  16. I love exercise and food journals in general. I am big in to keeping track of what I am doing and it is nice to look back at it all at the end of the year.

  17. I've used a pen and paper journal and an online journal for years. I love it! It's great to keep way to keep up with running times and data and goals and intentions!

  18. I definitely love using a running journal; I've used all kinds - free ones that I've gotten online or from Runner's World to ones I've made myself from notebooks to specific running journals I've purchased. Even with all of my apps and gadgets, I still like having a record on paper!

  19. Those are really cool. I usually keep everything in a Google spreadsheet, but something like that would be really cool as well. I was looking at trying to do something different with my tracking this year. I mean, I'm sure I'd put it all in a spreadsheet eventually anyway to run statistics on it, because I'm that kind of geek, but this would be cool to track it all in first.

  21. I track my strength training workouts but haven't been great about tracking my running workouts. A cute running journal would probably help! :)

  22. I love running journals. I don't always keep track of the same data points, so I should probably get better at doing that (like shoes worn, specific pain, etc). It looks like the one you're using has ton of trackable items, which is awesome! I've been using the Believe I Am journal for two years now and love it! I think writing by hand is way more fun than tracking digitally, even if I have to add up all the miles by myself on paper at the end! :)

  23. That's a pretty cool journal! I track all my stuff on Runningahead.com. It calculates all my mileage for each shoe too, that's part of the reason I started using it.

  24. I just got a new running journal myself, and I'm super excited to use it! I've tracked my runs in the past via my nike app, but that's really just not the same as writing it down. :)

    ReplyDelete
  25. I've actually made my own! I have having trouble finding one that meets all my crazy and weird needs to making one was just way easier and cheaper! :D

  26. Running journals are so important! I hand't used a real one in past years (either recorded mileage online or jotted stuff down in a notebook) but I got the Believe journal this year and I am so excited to start using it!

  27. I have never tried a journal but it is a great idea-the last year I tracked everything electronically

  28. I'd love an online app like that for me to journal my runs. I do keep track on daily mile and garmin connect. Not the same, I know...
