In the spring of 2013 my mom and I went to the theater to see "Spirit of the Marathon 2". That was a story about a group of runners who were preparing for the Rome Marathon. Although it did not convince me that I ever wanted to run a marathon, I left the theater feeling that it was a very inspiring movie and was enjoyable.
For christmas in 2013, I received "Spirit of the Marathon" ( the first movie) as a gift. I was planning on watching it before my first Marathon in Big Sur. Well, that marathon never happened so I never watched the movie. However, the night before we left for the disney marathon weekend was a perfect time to open up the movie and watch it.
The first movie follows a group of runners who are preparing for the Chicago marathon. Some were first
time marathoners and some were chasing a PR. i didn't find this first movie to be inspiring as i prepared for my own first marathon. in fact it kind of made me nervous and i was actually second guessing my decision to do the goofy challenge.
what pumps you up before a big race? -m
I remember watching Spirit of the marathon before my marathon last April! Ive never seen the second one. Good to know that you thought the second one was more inspiring than the first!
ReplyDeleteWhen I get close to a big or important race, I quit reading or watching anything about running. It freaks me out and makes me compare myself to others (probably 25 years younger) and second guess everything!
ReplyDeleteI remember they sent my tickets for this, and I ended up getting busy and couldn't make it to the film. Maybe I will check it out sometime.
ReplyDeleteI can't say I really use much of anything to gear me up for a race. Sometimes I think I might even distance myself from a few things the week leading to get the mind 100% ready for the day. But we are all different, I bet there are some to have to do things like movies or something even the night before:)
Looking forward to hear how your first marathon went!!!
That's definitely an inspirational movie. They took it off of Netflix. I wish they'd put it back.
ReplyDeleteHey, whenever I try to comment on your IG pics, my comments disappear. I'm not sure what's happening.
I loved both of those movies and found them both equally inspiring. I actually watched the first a couple months before my first marathon and it really moved me. I hope you still had a wonderful experience doing the goofy challenge.
ReplyDeleteI really loved the first one. I enjoyed the second, but not as much. Congrats on your marathon weekend!
ReplyDeleteI've not heard about this before, but if I was going to run a marathon anywhere it would be Rome. Such a beautiful city!
ReplyDeleteI love those movies, especially the first one. Everyone is nervous before a marathon including the elite runners. That is totally normal. Hope you enjoyed that first big marathon and Goofy Challenge. Congrats!
ReplyDeleteI haven't seen the second one but I loved the first. I found it very motivating but I know what you mean about freaking you out. One of the runners actually ends up with a DNS and then there was the girl who ends up almost DNF. She makes it but it sure can make you second guess your decision to run a marathon. But, here you are! A marathoner. How does it feel?
ReplyDeleteI love this movie. I watched it while doing my 13 miler on the treadmill last year, really helped pump me up. I love the second one too!
ReplyDeleteI've never seen this-I bet I would love it. In going to try and find it to watch before my next marathon!
ReplyDeleteI like the way the first one has the history of the marathon along with the documentary, but I like the story lines better for 2.
ReplyDeleteI've not seen that one but a good idea to add to my list for airplane movies or snow days :)
ReplyDeleteWhen I watch movies like this it always pumps me up!
ReplyDeleteI really want to watch both of these! I'm going to download some movies for my trip to India so maybe I'll put these on that list. I'm sorry it made you nervous before the marathon though. It's probably natural to be a bit nervous and I guess maybe you would have been without the movie too.
ReplyDeleteI loved the first movie, but I saw it AFTER I ran my first marathon, so maybe that's the difference. What pumped me up BEFORE my first marathon was a CD of a song that my sister gave me which she had been given the day before HER first marathon 10 years earlier. The song was I Still Believe by The Call (not the Mariah Carey song). It's still my favorite give-me-energy-when-I-have-nothing-left running song.
ReplyDeleteI loved the first movie; haven't seen the second one yet.
ReplyDeleteI ADORE the first one... so now I really feel the need to see the 2nd one!
ReplyDeleteI saw the first one...SO incredibly inspiring! It really captures the essence of why we willingly subject ourselves to the agony of training for and running a marathon, haha.
ReplyDeleteI've heard many good things about the first movie but have never seen it. I want to though!
ReplyDeleteI love the first movie, but still haven't seen the second one. I really need to track it down!
ReplyDeleteI love both movies and actually found the first one very inspiring to watch before my first marathon! I'm sad they took it off of Netflix! :(
