Weekly Wrap at the Lake House....Aug 7

Hello friends! I was a little absent on social media this past week because I was having a fabulous time at the Lake House.

What made it so fabulous is that this is a vacation where Baylee can come too!

While we were there, my family came to visit. (Hence my dad was with us watching the season finale of the Bachelorette on Monday night. Did you get to read that post?)

I must admit that no running took place until Friday and even then it was only 3 miles and it was a struggle between the heat and my tight calf that had returned. But really I have no right to complain about the tight calf because I did no stretching or cross training all week.

So here is a little bit of what we were up to at the lake!

One evening we did a dinner cruise on the Proud Mary paddle wheel boat.  The food was amazing, and we especially enjoyed the cruise and seeing more of the resort area via waterway.

Girls and their dogs!
We spent a few days going out on the boat with dogs while the guys fished.  Belle and Baylee both love being out on the boat. Please know that we are responsible pet owners and each of these dogs DO have a life vest that were in the boat with us. They are just not pictured wearing it. Also, the dogs did not leave the boat.

We visited this overlook that gave us some amazing views of part of the lake we hadn't seen the days before. Side Note:  While we were at the overlook there was a family there from Texas ( I assume they were from Texas by their accent and the license plate on their truck), and the one boy (at least 10 years old)  was throwing rocks down below. There were boaters and water skiers down there at the time. I doubt he had good enough aim to hit anyone, but still. The adults that were with him should have stopped him.

One of the days we went to Trough Creek State Park.  I don't think Baylee was a fan of crossing the suspension bridge and Rainbow falls was pretty much dried up!

Remember how I hiked Bushkill Falls and Ricketts Glen earlier this summer and I said they were both dog friendly but I would never take Baylee there?   Well, this park was also dog friendly and we DID take Baylee.  If I would have known the terrain ahead of time I would not have brought her. It was challenging enough for just Scott and I let alone a 10 year old dog.

This is just a sampling of the rocky and steep terrain. This was the only route so we had to go this way. The people off to the left are just looking at the dried up falls. That was not an alternative route.

Apparently the main attraction of the hike is the Balanced Rock.  I guess it's pretty cool. When we got back down to the parking lot you could see it sticking out among all the trees. It was amazing to see that we had hiked up that far.

After getting to the balanced rock we turned right around because I was worried about taking Baylee any further.  She did so well though. After climbing down all those rocks she deserved a little rest.

Looks like we are missing Belle!
I love how this little vacation was heavily focused on being with our dogs. We've taken them on vacation before when we went to the beach and some amusement parks near us allow dogs. Of course longer vacations like Disney and Cruises we can't bring them.  I want to do more vacations like this one.  Do you take your pets on vacation with you. If so, please tell me where you go. -M

If we remember to link up, we will be linking up with HoHo and MissSippiPiddlin for their weekly wrap!

  1. I can see why Baylee didn't want to cross that suspension bridge - she was all, "Mom, I'm not ready for anything with the words "rainbow" and "bridge" so close together!" ;)

What a fun family vacation, and yes, dogs are part of the family so it's great that you could bring them. I know dogs just like to be with their peeps and I'm sure they were so happy - you can see it in their faces. Sweet pups.

    1. OMG, I never gave it a thought about the words "Rainbow" and "bridge". Good observation Shelley! I think she didn't like the way the bridge swayed a little. And actually there were some tiny gaps in some of the boards. Other than that, it was pretty safe!

  2. Obviously we can't take our cats on vacation, but that doesn't stop us from saying, "I wish the kitties were here!" Or, "If the kitties where here, what would they be doing right now?"

I love how Baylee always looks like she is smiling in photographs. She is a lucky little dog to have someone like you who makes sure she gets to get out and ENJOY LIFE! :)

  4. Looks beautiful there! Yes, we always take our dog on trips with us. Our last dog, Cleo, even road tripped to Florida twice!

Someone should have thrown a rock at that kid. Or maybe his parents! WTH?

  5. I would definitely enjoy a vacation more if I had my dogs with me. One of my dogs does not travel well. She gets car sick, even with medication. So, we board both of them when we travel. A lake vacation sounds perfect to me! Your scenic hikes sound like fun too. Thanks for linking, Meranda!

  8. Dogs are so much easier to take than cats. When my parents and I actually camped, we took our dogs once. The golden got car sick and the beagle wasn't impressed with nature. Talk about city dogs!

  13. This looks like such a nice relaxing vacation. I would love to take my dog on vacation. We're thinking about renting a cabin on the lake next summer with my parents and the dogs would definitely come along.
That rock is really cool but it does look like a difficult hike up!

  14. Awww! Love that the dogs went on the boat and hiking with you! All the pictures are awesome! We take our dog anywhere we can drive (West Virginia, Virginia, New York, etc.) but I am always cautious about not making him do too much so we usually do shorter hikes.

  15. Ha my dog wears a life vest too when he kayaks with me! That's the only boat we have. Your trip to the Lake House looks so fun and wow I think I'd be nervous going over the suspension bridge too. I'm so glad you two have stuck with us in the WW! It is ladies like you who make it what it is! Hope you both have a great week!

The hike looks great! Baylee earned some rest indeed.
My cats stay at home, I don't think I will ever take one in vacation lol let alone all of them.

  18. We try to take our cat with us when we can. Depends where we go.
I do not have a dog and didn't realize they made life jackets for them.
