A day at Tokyo DisneySea: Day 2

Today we were headed to Tokyo Disney's second park, DisneySea.  We boarded the same bus we did yesterday from our hotel ( at the same time).

Tokyo Disneyland monorail station

We got off at the same stop that we did for Disneyland but instead of entering Disneyland Park, we walked to the monorail station to buy a ticket so we could ride the monorail to DisneySea.

monorail ticket, Disneyland Tokyo

This is a Disney operated monorail, but unlike Disney World, you do have to pay to ride it.  It cost 700 yen (for a day pass) which is approximately $5 (American). Technically you could walk between the two parks, but it would take awhile.

When we arrived at DisneySea, the line was super long!  The park pass that we bought included one day at Disneyland and one day at DisneySea for a total price of 8,900 yen which is approximately $62 ( American) for each park. Can you imagine getting into TWO parks at Disney World for only $62 per day?

After entering the park we passed the globe icon which is known as the "AquaSphere".  This represents the park's nautical theme, hinting to guests about what adventures await them at DisneySea.

My first photo op was with Dale. Not sure why Chip was not with him.  It was very cold this day, hence why I am all bundle up!

Like every Disney park, this park is also broken up into 8 themed lands called ports. They are Mediterranean Harbor, American Waterfront, Mysterious Island, Mermaid Lagoon, Port Discovery, Arabian Coast, Lost River Delta, and Fantasy Springs. I'll touch a bit on what we did in each port.

Mysterious Island

The main feature of the Mysterious Island area is Mount Prometheus, which is a volcano that actively has bursts of fire, steam, and water.

Not only is this a main feature, but it also houses two attractions inside it, 20,000 Leagues under the Sea and Journey to the Center of the Earth.

While we were there, we did ride 20,000 Leagues under the Sea.

20,000 leagues under the sea

If you ever remember this ride from Disney World from back in the day, it is not the same. In the old WDW version, you entered into a submarine and then you were lowered "under the sea".  In the Tokyo version, you are not entering a submarine. Your ride vehicle is almost like a gondola with windows to look out of. This is a dark ride similar to perhaps the Finding Nemo ride at WDW.

journey to the center of the earth

Later we did come back to the volcano to do the Journey to the Center of the Earth. This is a dark ride where every loads into a jeep type vehicle. We were exploring "underground".  This is a bumpy ride and it  reminded me of a mix between Dinosaur at Animal Kingdom and Indian Jones

Fantasy Springs

The theme here is of course fantasy and storybook adventures.

Rapunzel's lantern festival

Now we are in the Fantasy Springs section of the park and our first ride here is Rapunzel's Lantern Festival.

Rapunzel's

I would say this ride is similar to Tiana's Bayou Adventure without the thrill.

Rapunzel's Lantern Festival

This is a slow moving boat ride about Rapunzel's story that is both outside and inside.

Snuggly Duckling

We didn't have breakfast today, so it was time for a snack. Since we had just got off Rapunzel's ride, we thought it was appropriate that we went to The Snuggly Duckling.

Snuggly Duckling

I ordered the Duckling Muffin, which was a Caramel flavored muffin. I also ordered the Rapunzel's Magical Milk Tea.

Snuggly Duckling

This was a fruity flavored tea. I'm not really sure was flavor it was.

Snuggly Duckling

I had the option to add a ceramic souvenir plate to my order, so I did!

Before getting in line for our next attraction, I headed for the popcorn cart. I knew the line for the next ride was going to be long, and it would give me some down time to eat it.

popcorn cart

Things to know abut the popcorn carts: Each cart here serves a different flavor and they are usually unique ones. The cart I stopped at was serving Roast Beef flavored popcorn.

Popcorn bag
This wouldn't be my first choice in flavors but it was the closest popcorn cart to where I was and I did think the flavor sounded interesting.

Popcorn pouch
In addition the the popcorn buckets, they also sold popcorn pouches to hold a box of popcorn. This had a strap and a lid so you could easily transport your popcorn and then even keep it safe on the rides. This sounded like a great idea, so I bought one.

popcorn pouch and Mickey tongs

I also splurged for some Mickey tongs!

Our next attraction was Fairy Tinker Bell's Busy Buggie.
Tinkerbell buggies

The line was busy, that's for sure.  This ride was only okay, not something I would wait in line for that long again.

It is a slow moving outdoor ride. You board a buggy and ride through a giant garden. Cute but short.

While in this part of the park, we also rode Peter Pan's Never Land Adventure

Peter Pan

This ride is even better than the one at WDW. Guest here board a large ship that is on a track, but gives the illusion of floating in the air.  We were given 3D glasses for this ride. The characters are on screens and seem to "pop" out at you making you feel that you are really immersed in the story!

Port Discovery

This land's theme is described at the marina of the future. Then we went on to the Nemo and Friends SeaRider. This reminded me of being in an Imax theater.  We were not allowed to take photos in this attraction.

We came back to Port Discovery later in the day to ride Aquatopia.

This is an outdoor ride that is actually on the water.  You sit in a round boat type vehicle. It is sort of like bumper boats except it is on a track system so you can't actually bump into one another.  By the time we did this ride, it was quite chilly. I wish we would have done it earlier in the day.

Mermaid Lagoon

This land is inspired by the Little Mermaid and immerses guests in an underwater world.

Sebastian's Calypso Kitchen

Now it was time for lunch and we mobile ordered from Sebastian's Calypso Kitchen.

I ordered a sausage and bacon pizza and fries.  The pizza wasn't too bad but the fries were cold and not very good.

Sebastian's Calypso Kitchen was inside a building called Triton's Kingdom. This was almost like a grotto, with a playground and fun things to do for kids.

After this, I saw Donald.

I wanted to get a picture with him, but the cast member said that I could only get a photo with him if he reacted to me.  There was no standing in line and waiting your turn here, like it is at WDW. Everyone was gathered around in a circle around Donald to see who he reacted too. He reacted to two little girls dressed as Donald, so I guess I lost my chance for a photo, and rightfully so.

America Waterfront

This land is themed after two American water front cities, New York City and Cape Cod.

Tower or Terror, Hotel Hightower

Here we rode their version of Tower of Terror, which was called Hotel Hightower. I thought this was a great ride but a bit of a different story from WDW.

Mediterranean Harbor land

This land is themed after a Southern European port town.  It does features some canals and you have the option of riding a Venetian Gondola, which we did not do. In this land we rode Soarin! This ride is Soarin: Fantastic Flight. It is similar to the WDW version but of course it ends at Tokyo Disneyland!

Arabian Coast

The theme in this land is inspired by Aladdin and the world of Arabian Nights. In this land we rode Sinbad's Storybook Voyage.

Sinbad the sailor

This was a really cute ride. It is a indoor boat ride that is inspired by the story of Sinbad the sailor. It sort of reminded me of Small World but with a Middle Eastern flair.

Lost River Delta

The theme in this land represents an archeological site in a tropical rainforest in Central America. Of course the main attraction here is Indiana Jones Adventure. This is a dark ride, where the ride vehicle takes you through a cave. I did not take my phone out to get photos because this ride moved pretty fast.

We wrapped up the night by watching the nightly water pageant/light show called Believe! Sea of Dreams

Believe, Sea of Dreams

This reminded me of Fantasmic at Disney's Hollywood Studios. It features boats, floating displays, laser light shows, pyrotechnics and projections. This show was presented on the Mediterranean Harbor.  I enjoyed this show not only because it was visually pleasing but many of the Disney songs were sang in English.

After this we headed out. I enjoyed the day here experiencing new things, but the weather was sort of terrible and I was cold most of the day. I was ready to go back to the warm hotel.

Till next time ~ L
