Coffee Talk- February

Welcome to Coffee Talk, February edition!  I believe this is the first Coffee Talk I've participated in this year.  I like the Coffee Talk blog posts because it's a chance for us to go off topic on our blog and share what's going on in our lives. It also lets us catch up with our other blogger friends!  So grab a cup of coffee and let's talk.

If we were having coffee, I'd reflect on the month of January.

I'd share with you that our Pappy celebrated his 90th birthday and we had a party for him.  We are so fortunate that our Pap is in good health at 90. He still lives in his own house, drives his car, and walks up to the very top of the bleachers for church every Sunday!  He now even makes his own bread and delivers it to family!

If we were having coffee, I'd tell you about what we've been watching. On Disney Plus, we've been into the new National Treasure series.  Scott and I enjoyed the National Treasure movies and although the characters and story line is not the same, the premise is. The main characters are younger and each week their adventures keep us at the edge of our seat.  A new episode comes out each week and we look forward to it. It's like our "date night".

I'd also tell you about a movie on Netflix called "The Glass Onion".  If you like murder mysteries with a modern twist, check this one out.  It's about a wealthy young entrepreneur who invites his friends to his island to play a murder mystery game, but one of the guests figures out who the "murderer" is before it even starts. Then things unravel from there!  The beginning is a little slow, but hang in there.

AND if you enjoy that movie, my sister told me there was a prequel, called "Knives Out".  We had to watch that one next!  We could not find "Knives Out" on Netflix, so we had to rent it from Redbox. This story is also a murder mystery but it is more traditional, sort of like the came of Clue.  It centers around the death of a family member and everyone is a suspect. This will keep you on the edge of your seat for sure. Go rent this one now!

I'd  also share that I just discovered a new book by one of my favorite authors, Elin Hilderbrand.  I really enjoyed "The Summer of 69" and recently discovered there was a "Summer of 79".  It was published in 2020, so not exactly a new one, but I was excited to see it existed. I listened to it on Audible, and really it just seemed it was just an additional chapter that could have been added to the end of the first book "Summer of 69". It was very short and not much of a story at all.

Lastly, I would tell you that Lacey and I are headed out on our next Disney adventure.  We will be going to Festival of the Arts at Epcot, and then we will be going on a Disney Cruise. This will be a first for both of us. We are looking forward to running the Castaway Cay 5k while there.

What would you share over coffee?  What have you been watching lately?   -M

We will be joining our friends Coco and Deborah for the Coffee Date!

I'll also be linking up with Rebecca Jo at Rebecca Jo Knits

  1. Happy birthday to Pappy! My FIL celebrated his 90th birthday last summer and like your Pappy, he's very independent as well. How wonderful to be able to live so long and feel so good.

We saw both the Knives Out movies--I liked the first one best but they were both good!

Have fun with Lacey at Disney!

  6. We're watching National Treasure too and are enjoying it even though it is different from the movies. We enjoyed both Knives Out and Glass Onion too. I hope you have a fabulous trip to Florida!

  8. I've been watching Manefesto on Netflix lately. I don't watch a ton of TV though. I am seriously going to check out the National Treasure series on Disney Plus. I'm surprised my kids haven't found it yet. I'll have to ask them.

I haven't been to Disney in years! I grew up in Florida and used to go all the time, but now that I'm in Michigan we hardly head down south. I sure miss the sunshine.

That's awesome about your Pappy. I can definitely say that is an accomplishment. I see many people much younger not doing that well.

Happy Friday and have a great weekend!

  9. Happy Birthday to Pappy! Every time I hear a story like that I think "that's the kind of 90-year-old I want to be!"
I haven't seen Glass Onion or Knives Out, but now I want to. I love mysteries.
    Have fun on your cruise!

  10. I had forgotten about Knives Out. I remember seeing the previews, but I don't get to the movies much (in an actual theater setting). My tv time is slim-to-none except for Big-10 basketball (and football in the fall), though I have been watching Friends reruns on Nick at Night while knitting. Your upcoming cruise sounds fun! My dad's sister (she's the oldest of five) turns 100 next week, so there's a big party for her this weekend. She's in great health, she only just moved to a nursing facility a few years ago.

  11. Happy birthday to your Pappy! It is great that he is in such great health!

We loved Knives Out. I want to see Glass Onion — I think my husband watched it without me but maybe he will watch it again.

Enjoy your Disney events and cruise!

  13. Happy birthday to your Pappy! What a beautiful cake! That's pretty amazing that he can still climb bleachers. I saw the Glass Onion on the new releases, but read the little paragraph about it and didn't think we'd like it. But I'll go back and watch now. Have fun on your Disney trip. I'm probably one of the few that has never been to Disney or a cruise.

  14. Happy Birthday to your dad! I hope to be like him when I am 90 years old too. I have't heard or seen any of those movies. Right now I am watching "Will and Grace". It is very funny but sometimes very inappropriate. Have fun on the Disney Cruise!
