During a recent layover in Orlando, I finally made it to Gideon's Bakehouse. For those of you who don't know about Gideon's, it is said that you need to get in line super early in the morning because the wait is SO long. The cookies must be really good! I had to see what the hype was all about!
I arrived at the Bakehouse at 12:45 pm and the cast member standing outside said the "stand by" line had just ended. But not to worry, I could put my name on the "call back" list, so I did just that. She directed me to a different entrance and I put my name and phone number on their list for a call back for my time to enter. It sort of sounds like the old Fast Pass system doesn't it? After putting my name on the list I was told it would be about 40 minutes until they texted me. That sounded okay by me. I started to stroll around Disney Springs and within 20 minutes ding, ding, ding, my text had arrived. Wow, that was faster than expected!
That message was just to tell me that I could now get in line. I still had to wait another 15-20 minutes when I got there. The line started outside and then once we made it inside, it looped around. The line moved quickly. The inside of the bakery was very unique. It was dark and sort of reminded me of a scene from the Addams Family. By the time it was my turn to make a selection, I felt like I still hadn't made up my mind!
Everything that was available at that time was in a glass case for viewing. Everything looked so delicious, so that's why I had a hard time choosing.
Here were the features for March.
The ones I chose were:
Original Chocolate Chip, Pistachio Toffee Dark Chocolate, and Cookies and Cream. Each cookie was a half pound and cost $6 each. The limit was 6 cookies per person and limited edition items were reserved to only 2 per person.
As far as taste, I felt the Chocolate Chip and the Pistachio tasted similar because the Pistachio one also had chocolate chips in it. The pistachio was definitely the dominating flavor because I barely tasted the toffee. They were both equally tasty and very moist. The Cookies and Cream tasted as expected, it was a vanilla cookie with crumbled up Oreo cookies in it.
If I had to choose a favorite, I would choose the Pistachio Toffee dark chocolate!
I also got a Cookies and Cream Nitro cold brew ( for less than the cost of one cookie). Again, it tasted as expected. Other flavors of cold brew included Peanut butter, Pumpkin Chai, and Classic. ( All the coffees here use oat milk and are vegan).
So, was the hype worth it? If you like cookies, it's worth going. It's nice to see what the feature flavors are since they change each month. I am glad that the system for waiting in line has changed and the now give you a call back time. I thought maybe this was going to be a one and done experience for me but since I didn't have to wait in line very long it might be some place I try to visit again on another Orlando layover!
Have you visited here? What cookie would you get? -L
I love that just getting into Gideon's requires explanatory text. Definitely saw a guy get turned away last time!
ReplyDeleteYes! I guess we all need to get use to this virtual queue and stand by line stuff!
DeleteOkay, those cookies look pretty tasty and I am not even a huge cookie fan. I think I would have gone for sure with the peanut butter ones but the pistachio one also sounds unique. Did they keep fresh for a few days? How fun to try something new!
