Buyer Beware.....Bed, Bath, and Beyond

Let me preface this post by saying I KNOW that the holidays are about Faith and Family and NOT shopping! However, it is fun when you find just the perfect gift for someone on your list. That is just what what happened to me but of course this is a little story involved.



Like I mentioned before, I don't
go out shopping on Black Friday, but I do shop online from the comfort of my own home.  I found the perfect item for someone on my list. I actually found it on several websites for comparable prices but I decided to purchase it from Bed, Bath, and Beyond because there are two stores in my local area in case it needed to be returned.


So since the purchase, I've received every other gift I purchased on Black Friday and Cyber Monday except for this purchase.  Gosh, It should be coming any day now, I thought.  Where is it?   I just happened to check my credit card statement (for other reasons), and I saw that I recently got charged for this item.  I assumed that since I JUST got charged, that it was being mailed out.  BUT NOPE,  The next day I got an email stating that the purchase had been CANCELLED.  WHAT???

I called Beth, Bath, and Beyond and asked what was going on. At this point I am a very unhappy customer.  I had an opportunity to buy this item at other retailers while it was on sale but I chose Bed, Bath, and Beyond, and now customer service is telling me that  they don't have any more in stock!  What?  I asked why they didn't tell me that when I ordered it  ( and just so you know, I ordered it over the phone with an actual person).  I was told that Yes, there was enough of the items when I ordered, however, when it was time to fulfill the order in the warehouse, there was not enough.  Is that the most ridiculous explanation you've ever heard? Who does the inventory at this place???????

The reason I am so upset is because this wasn't just a couple dollar item, it was hundreds of dollars and now of course all the websites are selling this item at full price which is more then double what I was paying at Bed, Bath, and Beyond.  The only service I got from  BBB was Well, your credit card will be refunded. They didn't offer a replacement item, or even a stinkin coupon!

Tis the season I guess!  -M

P.S If you signed up for the holiday card swap you should have got a name this week.  I emailed everyone on the list.

  1. LIke you said, 'tis the season! I wonder if BBB only had a few items at that price, just to get people to their site. That stinks. Sorry it happened to you.

      And actually it is still on their website. Too bad they dont actually have it in stock!

  3. Ugh! So frustrating. BBB was already on my naughty list even before I heard your story. Spending the extra money on an item you could have purchased elsewhere is such a shame!

  6. That is crazy! I shop there a lot in person and use the coupons from the mail (which never expire), but it stinks to have an order just cancelled like that because you only have so much time to buy and wrap gifts, and now you have to find them somewhere else. Yuck :(.

  8. How frustrating!! I would not be happy since now the other places have it at full price. Did you ever see the Seinfeld episode where Jerry reserves a rental car and when he went to pick it up they said they had his reservation but not the car. Of course comedy ensues! Your situation reminded me of that except your situation is not funny at all.

  9. That's crappy! And I've made it a point to shop at BB&B because they have such a good return policy...but I guess that only works IF they send you your order.

  10. That sucks! BB&B has been on my crap list for a couple of years after I wanted to buy a pillow marked at $24, and they rung it up at $240! Umm, what is that thing made out of??

  11. Oh man, I'm so sorry to hear that :( I have a soft spot in my heart for BBB since I worked there on and off through high school and college. The response from customer service was really disappointing. They should have honored the price and sent it to you once it was back in stock.

  12. Wow that's pretty crappy! I agree with Kim, they should have honored the price you paid and sent it to you as soon as it was available. Hope you can find a good price elsewhere.

  13. OH NO I am so sorry to hear that!! What a bummer...Bed, Bath, and Beyond usually has really decent customer service, so I'm sad that happened to you. :(
