Runfessions from the Trail

Welcome to another edition of the Friday 5. Since it's the last Friday of the month, we'll be doing Runfessions. Can it be a "Runfession if there wasn't much "running" involved? I guess I'll have to ask Wendy about that one!

First of all I will Runfess that I was taking a gamble letting go of a Labrador's leash this close to the water. Baylee's a good dog though so I figured she'd stay put for a picture. Second of all I will Runfess that I thought of all of these Runfessions while I was walking Baylee on the trail.

1. I Runfess that I need to buy more shorts for Spring/Summer running. There is nothing wrong with my old ones, I just need more so I don't have to do laundry as often (not that I do anyway).

2. I Runfess that I feel guilty listening to my ipod while I walk Baylee.  I feel like she might think I'm ignoring her. I also Runfess that I talk to her when we walk. Yes, I talk to my dog!

3. I Runfess that the beginning of every walk with Baylee can be a challenge.  When she is hooked to that leash she's ready to go and she thinks that we are going to run. She still has some spunk to her but because of her age and her health condition, I won't run her anymore.  This means the first hundred yards of our walk is spent sniffing the surroundings. After that she's good!

4. I Runfess that when I returned to the trail this week I was a bit hesitant when I approached the spot where the "incident" happened last week. I actually surveyed the area before continuing forward.

5. I Runfess that I Really enjoy my walks with Baylee when we walk on the outer trail by the water. It's so peaceful when nobody else is there.  I like to put the music on my ipod and sing along.  Yea, I can sing out loud when I know nobody else is around. Baylee doesn't mind.

Can you relate to any of these?  -M

  1. I can always justify needing more running clothes, even when I have plenty and am not running very much. Im always on the lookout for sale items on Running Warehouse.

  2. I think I would feel guilty about listening to music or a podcast while walking my dogs! Thinking back to the last dog I had, I never walked her with my headphones in because I liked to be able to chat with her. I guess maybe that's normal for dog lovers!

  3. I loved walking my dog. Our favorite route was to a local pond and back. Occasionally we let him go in and swim because he loved it so much!

  4. Carlo the wonder dog (who turned 17 today!) is mostly deaf and I still talk to him. Totes normal! The spot where I came upon the couple last year (trailhead) will always be "the spot" too. I can't pass it without thinking about it. Thanks for linking!

  5. I kept thinking about "the incident" this week when I was running and I kept laughing! I only see old men walking on the path...

  6. I definitely need to buy more shorts for summer running. It's hard for me to find compression shorts that are long enough - the hunt continues!

  7. Awwwww, I'm sure Baylee is so delighted to just be in your company, she's probably not even noticing you are "in tune" with something else periodically. I take our Max for walks a couple times a day...and he's either leading the way (speed walking) or he's stopping every 20-feet or so to sniff the surroundings. I don't treat the walks with him as cardio LOL...more like intervals.

    1. Baylee does the same thing until she gets in her "groove" and realizes I'm not going to tolerate her being so unfocused..haha

  8. I doubt that Baylee thinks that you're ignoring her. My dog just loves it anytime I take him outside so that he can smell everything!

  9. I just had the same exact thought on the running shorts. I don't NEED them, but they are nice to have!

  10. I don't have a dog but I imagine I would talk to mine when we walked if I did. I certainly used to talk to my babies all day long!

  12. I'm guilty of buying new shorts too! When Oiselle had their Nee sale earlier this week I jumped on it even though I don't need more. Guilty!

  13. I ordered a new NB shirt for spring/summer running. I like having my shoulders covered when I'm outside, and I don't have many shirts with sleeves.

  21. This made me miss our dog Dakota who passed a year ago. I don't think she cared I had headphones on as long as she was outside exploring. She was the type of dog who loved to stop and sniff every few minutes - drove me crazy but gotta love her!

  22. Don't feel guilty about the music, I listen to audiobooks while I watch my son's baseball games. It makes me tune out the parents yelling at their kids to the ball harder.

I used to talk to my doggy Cordy, I always felt she could understand me. When my grandfather died and I brown down crying, she was the first on my side kissing me.

Walmart has awesome shorts!! also, I just bought a new pair of Nike running shorts and I loved them! they were so comfy and cute! Show us what shorts you pick up!!

  23. GIRL, I feel guilty when I have headphones on and I am petting or holding the cats! I worry that they think I'm ignoring them too! OMG this must be a cat mom/dog mom thing! Also, I love how Baylee always looks like she's smiling in pictures and has her head cocked to the side. Have a great weekend!

  24. Baylee is so cute! I talk to my dogs when I walk them too :)

  25. I also talk to my dogs when we walk. And they talk back! I have fallen so many times over the years and I still feel a certain hesitation when I run in those areas!

  26. Runfession: I talk to myself when I walk, when I run, pretty much all the time! Maybe I should get a dog so it looks like I'm talking to him/her!
