Bye bye PGH

Now that I've completed all the Disney races that I've wanted to run, One of my new "intentions" this year was to run some bigger (notable) city races.

I've already checked a big one off my list this year, the New York City Half. Earlier this year, I mentioned a few other cities that I wanted to run. Among them was Pittsburgh, only because I wanted the coveted "Runner of Steel" medal ( for obvious reasons to those who know me).

I also mentioned earlier this year that my husband's company is a sponsor of a particular race and that  I was invited to run it in May. I did not mention the race by name because at the time I was unsure if I would run it or not.  The race was the Pittsburgh Marathon and half marathon. I of course would sign up for the half marathon.

Even though this is a race I wanted to do, I didn't want to make any decisions until after I ran NYC. After all, I've been having a pretty good "no injury" streak going on here and I wanted to see how I felt after the race.

Turns out, after Running NYC, I felt fine and eager to tackle the city of Pittsburgh! I heard that the course had changed since years past and now it is much flatter!

Well a few things have changed over the past few weeks. As you know, (besides the 10k race I just ran this past weekend), I've taken a bit of time off running to try to get over this cold. I am in no shape to pick up half marathon training again this week or probably even next. Also with a race date of May 7th, it makes a very tight schedule for my family as there are other travel plans involved and would just make for a hectic weekend. Quite frankly, I'm just too tired for all this right now.

With all this being said, I still have the free registration. It can be used for either the full marathon or half marathon. Who wants it? -M

  1. What a bummer that you can't do the race! I completely understand though and hope you can do the race sometime in the future. I would be interested in the bib if it's still available!

  2. What a shame that you can't do the half, especially since you have a free entry! That's how I felt about Utah. I really wanted to go!

    1. I know! I was real excited about the course too. But in the end it's just gonna be too much for me at this particular time.

  3. Too bad you can't run it! I have heard it's a flat fun course.

  5. I am sorry you are still feeling so tired and travel can certainly make things much more stressful. That's nice of you to let Gretchen have your free entry! Someone should enjoy it, right? :)

I have a friend that did the relay a few years ago and really loved it.

  7. I have to say, I am proud of you for knowing when things need to be put on hold. No need to push yourself into an injury or stress with a busy schedule. Hope someone can use the bib though. Nice of you to offer it.

    1. Thank you. I've been happy with the races I've run so far this year. No sense and pushing for another one if I don't feel i'm prepared.

    1. I would like to say " I hope so" but I seem to keep finding other Spring races I'd like to try as well. I don't like to do too many races around the same time.

  9. That's too bad you can't run the race this year, but better to not overstress your body (and your mind) with trying to fit in training when other things are happening. Nice of you to pass on the free bib - I hope Gretchen has a great race!

  10. It's a tough decision, but sounds like the right one. You've done all this work to get past your injuries.

  11. So sorry you can't use it, but smart to listen to your body.

  12. Hopefully you can do it next year! I feel like I am "overbooked" this spring - two more races to go!

  13. It's hard to turn down a free entry for a race you want to do, but you gotta do what you feel is best. The races will always be there!

  14. I'm so sorry you have to miss the race. Take care of you first and foremost. There will always be another race.

  15. It takes a smart runner to know when to bail, although it's never an easy decision.

Unfortunately, I've already done PA! Not to mention I'm doing a half the weekend before.

  16. This is such a smart decision - the race will always be there next year!

I wish I could take you up on the free registration but I live in CT and I already have a half marathon in May!
