Winning at Run Disney

Run disney age group award tinkerbell 10k
Back in May, I ran the Pixie Dust Challenge at Disneyland in California. The Pixie Dust Challenge set of races (and the 5k on Friday) was my first experience with run Disney events on the west coast!

I was feeling pretty good during and after the 10K, so just for the heck of it I thought I would look up the results when they were posted later that morning.  To my surprise, it looked like I had come in 4th in my age group. I was pretty excited about this because awards are given to the top 5.  I was pretty proud of myself for just barely making it into the top 5.

A little bit later we were at breakfast and I got a text from my friend Christine, saying "Congrats, You are in 2nd place".   Really? I couldn't believe it.  Of course I had to look at the results again. Sure enough, I was second in my age group. I had placed in age group awards in some smaller local races, but never in a big race like this. If you ever wanted to win an award at a big race, Disney should definitely be one of those races!

So after about 5 weeks, my award came to me in the mail.  You probably can't tell from this photo, but it is a glass plaque. Of course I love it because it is my first Run Disney award, but I kind of thought it might have my name on it.

Have you ever won an age group award in a race? L

  1. Congrats!! That is so incredible! Placing in a Disney race would be a dream! Although I know with all the people who run them, that is just not in the cards for myself haha.

  7. Congrats!! That is so exciting!! And the award is so cute. Maybe you could take it somewhere to see if your name could be put on it? I won an age award once in a tiny 5K race and I was thrilled (and I didn't ruin my buzz by checking to see if there were more than three runners in my age group!! Ha ha)

  8. Wow that's so cool! I do a lot of smaller races in my area and sometimes get an age group award, but never at a big event like this! Such a cool plaque :)

  9. Congrats again Lacey. I do think having your name on the plaque would be nice, but honestly runDisney has improved their awards over the last few years. When my sister got her first Princess award in 2011, it was a wooden plaque and barely legible. So the plastic plaques are a huge improvement!

  12. Congratulations! I ran all 3 of those races as well! How fun that you placed and didn't even realize it! That probably made it extra fun! Tink is my only experience with runDisney (2014, 2015, and 2015). 2013 was my first Half ever and was my motivation to try running in the first place. I am hooked but wish my bank roll would allow more Disney for sure!

  13. For a runDisney fan, that must feel super awesome! Placing in a Disney race. Even if you are a seasoned runner who has placed in other events, just the sheer number of people running these must make people think "no way". Congratulations!

  15. Congratulations! They definitely should have put your name on it. And perhaps thrown in some Pandora jewelry too!

  16. That is the COOLEST!
I'd find a way to make it a necklace & wear it every day :)

  17. It doesn't have your name on it? $200 an entry and they can't spend an extra fifty cents on the awards to engrave names? Really Disney?

  18. I placed first in my age group in both the 10k and the half of Tink. It's the first time I've gotten first in both races, it's usually in the 10k. Last week I finally was able to place in a Rock n Roll race - wonder what they'll send?
