Why you should pack gloves for your next race even if it's warm.

Over the years we have done multiple race challenges and have earned multiple medals in one weekend. Of course after the last race it is customary to want to wear your medals around and if you are at Disney, it's almost mandatory that you do so! ( just kidding but why would you NOT want to wear your medal(s).  Even if they have ran multiple race and have earned multiple medals, some runners choose to wear just one medal to the park because wearing all of them is just too heavy.  Even if you choose to only wear one medal to the park, you may want to bring the collection of other medals you have earned to the park with you for a few photographs.  So, if you do that, here is where packing the gloves comes involved........

Later on Sunday evening when all the races were completed, we wanted to get a few pictures with our medals when we went out for dinner. We only wore the Goofy Challenge medal but we packed the other medals in our bag and brought them with us.  Before we threw our medals in the bag, we put them inside our stretchy gloves.
The medals actually did fit all the way inside these stretchy gloves and they were protected quite nicely. I left some of the medal hanging out just for the sake of the picture.

This prevented the medals from banging up against one another as we toted the bag around.  We also put the medals inside the gloves when we placed them in our carry on luggage before we boarded our flight home.

This worked our perfectly and a little tip we will remember when we participated in other multi- race weekends.  We'll even be packing some stretchy gloves when we run the multi race weekends in VA beach even though it will probably be 98 degrees!

I suppose you could do the same thing by putting the medals inside your socks, but I don't like to stretch my socks out and these stretchy gloves work perfect!

Do you pack your medals with care when you travel home?  Do you take ALL your medals to the parks with you?

  1. I have never worn more than one medal to the park and yes I have also used gloves for packing them to go home. Socks work just fine too though if it is a warm time of year!

  2. Well, I've never seen bling as an excuse to bring gloves to a race, but it works for me! I don't usually worry too much about packing it carefully, except to put it in my carry on! I trust no one with my bling...

  3. This is a great idea! I've never traveled somewhere where I got more than one medal but even just to protect one this is a good way to pack them!

  4. I haven't done any challenges, so I pack my medal in my purse, between my wallet and checkbook. I will wear them in the parks though. I couldn't wait to do that after my first ever rD race.

  6. What a great idea! The GSC will be my first set of "challenge" races, and I was thinking I'd just wear the GSC medal around the parks, but I will keep this tip in mind in case I decide to bring all three for pictures!

  7. Very clever idea! I could have used this last weekend, when I very carefully packed three medals to take home!

  8. Ever since I bought gloves that have tech-friendly fingers I love running with them! They provide warmth AND I can change the song on my phone without getting a headache ;)

  9. If it's local, I just wear the medal driving home. If I'm traveling, I wrap the medal in it's ribbon and stick it in my purse. I've never done DL after a race. The one time I did WDW I tried to wear the medal in the parks, but I got tired of it banging against me when I walked and I got tired of people congratulating me. It felt silly to me to collect accolades from strangers on doing something I do on a regular basis. Other people may like the kudos. That's fine. Anyway, I ended up just sticking the medal in my purse. Gloves are a good idea, though, if you're worried about it getting scratched!

  11. That's kinda genius!!!
I usually buy those stretchy gloves at the end of winter when they are 50% off & no one ever buys them... perfect for the next winter to wear & toss when you don't want them anymore.

  13. Such a good idea! Also, my hands are always cold. I'm sure gloves is usually overkill in Florida, but for me it might be good to bring gloves EVERYWHERE, ha ha!

  14. I keep my bling in my purse or carry-on. This would definitely help protect it and I usually have stretchy gloves with me anyway. Good tip.

  16. Fabulous idea! I usually do carry all my bling on me... but if I did Goofy or Dopey, I don't think I could handle all those medals on my neck. Love this idea for protecting and packing the goods! :D

  17. Great tip, plus you never know they could just come in handy in an unusual cold storm:) I will say I have packed mine into socks before, or stuck it inside a shoe for travels, but the glove is a really good idea, a little less stinky too, LOL

  21. Having another "duh" moment here! I'm ALWAYS worried about the extra medals clanking around in my bag (because you KNOW I carry them around for pictures in the parks!) This is genius.
