Costume Confusion: I Could Use Your Help

Yesterday I mentioned that I hadn't even started working on my race outfits for theTower of Terror weekend yet. I had some ideas floating around in my head and I had the supplies I would need so last night I finally got to work. For most of my running costumes I try to use things that I already have at home. I very rarely buy something just to wear it for one race.

This was the race costume I made and wore for the Wicked 10K last year.

It was a ghost outfit.Last year one of our readers suggested that after I wore it for the race that I could dye It purple and use it as the Kool aid man for the next year! Although that was a clever suggestion, I think I'll pass on that idea for now.

Instead, I have two ideas brewing for the TOT 10 miler.
I knew I wanted to wear my black argyle and hearts running skirt from runninskirts.com and thought maybe I would go with a queen of hearts type theme, but then my idea started to fade and I didnt know what to do with it, so this happened.

I just sewed on a Mickey Head and outlined it in that glow in the dark fabric paint I told you about yesterday! I actually like how it looks in the dark. I'm thinking about adding even more paint to the mickey head!

My second idea involves dressing as a pumpkin/jack-o-lantern. I have an orange running skirt and an orange tank top. The problem with this outfit is that the orange top that matches the skirt exactly is not tech material. It is spandex and polyester.I do have another orange top but it is bright orange and does not match the skirt, but it is moisture wicking tech material.  See below.

Do you think it matters if the top and bottom are a few shades off? Also, this orange skirt is not from Runningskirts.com and does not have pockets in it. I'll be wearing my running belt anyway so not sure how big of a deal that is going to be.

Do you think I should wear the black glow in the dark Mickey outfit for the 10 miler and save the pumpkin costume for another non-Disney fall race?

I'm pretty set on my 5k race day outfit but I suppose I should put that outfit together and see if it looks as good in person as it has looked in my mind the past 4 months!

What are your thoughts? Are you dressing up for any fall races?   ~M

  1. I really like both of them. I don't think that it matters that the pumpkin outfit has different shades of orange, I actually think I prefer it that way. But the block outfit is really cute and I think it would especially stand out with the glow in the dark paint.

  2. I think both are fine, but I like the black outfit better. You could combine ideas by putting a jack o lantern face on your mickey head!

    1. Dang, I should have made the Mickey head out of Pumpkins!

  3. They are both cute, but I would go with the glow in the dark Mickey. It's not everyday that you get to run a night race at Disney. ;)

  5. I don't think the variation in shades matters at all. They're both cute, but if it was me, I'd probably lean toward the jack 'o lantern, just because I love them so much. Since it's not me, and you're doing a night race, the glow in the dark might be really fun.

    1. Haha, thanks! I think the pumpkin is more "fun" and I love the bright colors, but when I think of TOT I think of something dark. Now you know why it was a tough decision..lol

  6. I love them both! I don't think the different shades of orange matter. I think I would go with the pumpkin one just because it's good for Halloween time - you could always save Mickey for another Disney race in the future! Also orange is my favorite color so I'm a little biased ;)

  7. I think you would be happier wearing the bright outfit for TOT. Supposedly the race course is dark, and being in something a little lighter would be a great option.

  10. That ghost outfit is so cute! I love it. I think either costume you choose for ToT will look great... The orange might stand out more since it's in the dark, but I love them both. :)

  12. They are both adorable!! I don't think the two different shades of orange look bad together. I really like the Mickey though especially since it will glow in the dark!

  13. Love that skirt and the Mickey shirt, so that one gets my vote. :) The pumpkin is adorable, too...and I think the fact that the shirt/skirt are two different shades doesn't matter...it flows!

  14. I like the black glow Mickey outfit! That gets my vote! Personally I don't think I would ever run looking like a pumpkin! But that is just me! Good luck!

  17. They are classic old school, I LOVE them. The pumpkin is my favorite. Because both my boys were pumpkins for their first Halloween
