During every race weekend, Run Disney offers a Family 5K race in addition to the other race or races they have. This was the first year that the Royal Family 5K was held on a Friday morning. This is a fun run and even thought there is a clock at the finish line, your finish time is not recorded. When we first started running this race several years ago there weren't even any corrals. I think last year may have been the first year for corral placement.
The Royal Family 5K will always be a special race for both of us because it was our first Run Disney race ( and Meranda's first race ever). We ran this race with just our mom this year.
Here are just a few reasons why we like this race so much!
All ready for Cinderella's Royal Family 5k on Friday morning!
1. We love the fact that everyone is encouraged to dress up! Only at a Disney race can you dress up as a princess to run and no one bats an eye!
2. Even though it is a fun run, Disney still does it up big at the start line and finish line. Expect fireworks at the start, and a big finish at the end!
3. Another favorite thing about the Royal Family 5K is that the course is through Epcot which makes for some great picture opportunities.
4. And of course the characters along the course are always a favorite!
Do you have a favorite 5K that you've run? What makes a race special to you?
The 5k's looks like the funniest part of the Disney run weekend. Just fun! And a medal for a 5k? Always good stuff!
ReplyDeleteYes, it is truly meant just for fun! It is a great family activity! The "medals" are always super cute too!
DeleteLoving it all!! Love the costume as well!!
ReplyDeleteThank you! The costumes are always the best part!

DeleteThe Disney 5K's look like SO much fun - I haven't done one yet, but plan on running the Jingle Jungle 5K later this year! I love y'alls costumes and pics!! I hope I can get my parents to do a Disney race with me someday :0)
ReplyDeleteThanks Lauren! After running the Royal 5K through Epcot for so many years I didn't think I would care too much for the Jingle Jungle 5K but it turns out that I really liked running through Animal Kingdom!
DeleteOh wow that sounds like so much fun! I wish I lived closer to Disney and could sign up for some runs! I think it is a little out of my budget with flights and hotels added in haha.
ReplyDeleteDisney races are a bit expensive so if you do one make sure to make a vacation out of it! You will have a blast!
DeleteWhat a fun race -- those pictures are SO SO cute :)
ReplyDeleteThank you Courtney! Pictures are such a fun part of that race!
DeleteYou got fabulous photos ladies. So fun that you ran with your mom too! Christine and I ran the Royal Family 5k last year and it was our first 5k at Disney. We had a blast and will probably do one again sometime.
ReplyDeleteWe usually run with our mom and our dad but decided this trip was going to be just a girls trip this year!
DeleteLove your pics! I might have to add the 5k to my 2015 Glass Slipper weekend now ;)
ReplyDeleteyou surely should! You can get your kids to run too, they would love that ( if they don't mind getting up so early)!
DeleteI have run a couple of Jingle Bell 5ks - they're a lot of fun. People dress up, there's Christmas music and tons of jingle bells!
ReplyDeleteI think any type of theme races are fun! Especially christmas ones!
DeleteWow all of the Run Disney events you do look so fun, and I love that this one is family themed! So cool you ran it with your mom!
ReplyDeleteYup! We've run every single Royal Family 5K with her so far!
DeleteThat sounds so fun! I'm not going to lie, I don't love Disney, but since I started running all these great pictures make me want to run there.
ReplyDeleteYou will be hooked after your first Disney race!
DeleteThose are some great race photos!! My fave 5k is at the NJ beach because it is flat, haha! Also was the first, and only, race my family and I all ran together.
ReplyDeleteSounds like a great course! The Disney 5K was the first race we ran with our mom and dad together too!
DeleteThat looks like fun...and in all honesty, 5k runs are more up my ally. I just like that it's done quick and I don't have to train for months. :) One of my favorite 5k's of all time is the St. Patty's Day Dash in Seattle. It's been years since I lived there and participated, but it was such a blast.
ReplyDeleteI agree! 5Ks are fun. The St. Patty's day one sounds like a good one. It's still a bit too cold for me to run here in March though!
DeleteEveryone is having so much fun with these races. One day I will get into it.
ReplyDeleteI hope you do one someday. They are lots of fun!
DeleteFun! I thought the idea of the 5K was really fun, I just didn't want a third race that weekend since I was with my daughter. But if I do the Princess weekend alone I might consider it - it looks like you had a blast!
ReplyDeleteAwesom photos! : )
ReplyDeleteI especially like to run races when I'm on vacation in some pretty location, but if I was racing with friends or family, those would be really great, too.
ReplyDeleteHow fun, I love your costumes! My only regret on my own Disney race I ran years ago was I didn't dress up, but at the time I didn't know people did... If I ever do one again, I am so dressing up, it just makes it look like so much more fun! Congrats to you guys!!!!
ReplyDeleteWhat an awesome race! I would love to do a costume/dress up 5K. That would be so much fun!!!
ReplyDeleteI love when races offer finisher's medals. I think they all should, it's such a great souvenir.
ReplyDeleteYour costumes were adorable.
Great job, y'all! Super cute costumes, too!! :D
ReplyDeleteSuper cute outfits. I was so happy I participated in the 5k! It was the one race where I was able to stop for pics which was so fun!
