My Workout Space

I pretty much have a full functioning home gym at my house, yet for the past few years I have paid to go to a gym. Why?

I guess I needed that motivation and because I've been injured for so long I liked the fact that there was always a physical therapist on hand to check in with me or answer questions.

Then I just stopped going because I wasn't running longer distances and figured I could do whatever strength training I needed to do at home. Except I didn't do any.

I'm hoping that for 2018 I can be more dedicated to using my home gym.  I actually thought that "Showing where you work out" was a topic for TOTR so I prepared this little tour, but then when I went back to look at the topics, I guess I missed it.

In our gym we have a Bow Flex Revolution that I can probably convert to do more workouts than I even know how to do. We've had this machine for many years but have definitely not taken advantage of it.

My favorite pieces of equipment are the Nordic Track treadmill and bike.  I like these because they are ifit compatible and every workout can potentially be an adventure!

As you can see, my screen on the treadmill is rather small (and the one on the bike is a little bigger but still small), So when I use the iFit maps, I link it to my ipad.  Also, behind this wall is a large screen TV I can also link it up to. Sometimes I will pull the bike out into the other room.

I have smaller pieces of equipment like hand weights, resistance bands, foam rollers, stability ball, etc but they seem to make their way to other rooms in the house.

You may notice that my walls are bare. Most home gyms I've seen are decorated with race medals, bibs, and other running paraphernalia. Mine is not. Scott said I should hang all my medals up to show them off but I already have them all hung up in my dressing room (where really nobody but me can see them, but that's okay). I go in my dressing room every single day and I like seeing them there. Honestly, I do not go into this workout room every day. -M

Do you go to a gym or do you have a workout space at home? If so, how is it decorated?

We will be linking up with the gals from TOTR.

  1. Now that we have a treadmill I am planning to hang my race medals. I wanted to wait to make sure I hung them in a good spot once it was set up. Eventually Id like to get a motivational poster or something. But right now that area has nothing hung up. Looks like you have a good space for working out at home!

    1. That's the thing, once I have my medals up, I don't want to take them all down. Hope you pick a good spot!

  2. We have a home gym and gym membership as well. The home space was awesome when the kid were little and getting to the gym was a PIA. When I did tri training I needed the gym for the pool. I still like it for yoga and spin classes. I can honestly say I use both, although my treadmill is getting pretty old. :(

    1. That is great that you actually use both. Now that I am using my own equipment I don't know if I will go back to the gym or not. I like staying home!

  3. I have a home workout space too. It's also the spare room, the dog crate room, the shoe room...you get it. I try to make it mine, but the family keeps taking over. Since I don't run much on my treadmill, I don't use the room very much. If the weather stays cold much longer, that's going to change.

I messed up on the theme for TOTR this week too--I thought it was the shoe theme, so I published my feet post...

    1. I use to not use it either but I figure the winter is the best time to get use to it!

  4. Nice! My home gym is in our basement, with a few things on the wall including my medal hanger. We have a treadmill, elliptical and bowflex, yet I am going to studio classes for motivation and energy.

  5. I do love my home gym space as well. I am looking for some fun mural for the wall to decorate a bit

  6. I have all I need at home. But my basement is grungy&scary & full of totes. So not worth a picture. Haha

    1. Sounds like you need to make a "pretty" space for yourself!

  7. My treadmill is in the basement, which is unfinished. It'll stay that way, so no decorations. The smaller equipment does make its way upstairs so I can use it while watching TV, or doing an at-home DVD workout on the TV. I do have a gym membership, but once I get a bike, I'll cancel that. I haven't been to the gym since before my November race.

    1. Those smaller pieces of equipment are nice to use while watching TV. I should use them more often!

  8. I do have a home gym but it's in my garage so it's kinda decorated with junk. haha! I do have two flags hanging on the gym side though - the American flag and the Navy flag. I like that simplicity. I don't even have my medals hung up anywhere because I just haven't put them up. I need to get a new hanger anyway. I'd probably put them in our closet, as well. I definitely don't want them out in the garage. I really wish I could have a treadmill but the garage isn't temperature controlled and I've heard that extreme temps aren't good for machinery like that. UGH. I like your space. :)

    1. Kudos for you for even having the clean space to put a gym in your garage! I wouldn't even be able to fit a second car in mine right now..haha

  9. This looks really cool!

I often think that If I had a treadmill at home, I would stand on it just walking and walking... and nothing else would get done.

    1. You would have to download the ifit maps too so you could walk in all sorts of places!

  10. That looks like a great space! We have a room in the basement with an elliptical and I've hung up my race medals in that room too. But it also has all the junk left over from our move that we never unpacked so it's a bit of a mess.

    1. I didn't know that you moved!
Basements usually do become the "catch all" room!

  11. I love your space!! I used to have a home gym... but then kids. One day I'll have a dedicated space again, but for the time being I will just drool over yours!

  12. I am so jealous of a home gym! I am still in an apt complex, but we hope to buy a house this coming year, and I so cannot wait for my own space. My bike trainer is currently set up in the middle of the living room LOL

  13. Sometimes a yoga mat and dumbells are all you need for a good workout!

  14. You have a great space!! I have a membership to a fitness center, but we used to use the basement as a workout space with a treadmill, some weights and yoga stuff. I really miss having my own at-home space for the days I don't feel like being around people at the gym, ha!

  15. You have a great space set up! My treadmill is wedged between our guest bed and a wall! Haha! I love that you have an entire room for your workout space!

  16. I did not realize you have such a great gym! You know me, I workout in my sunroom but today I'm heading to PLanet Fitness to run on the treadmill because it's 4 degrees out this morning!

  17. What a nice space! I have a home gym too with the same kind of things. I have an ellptical and a treadmill. I've been kind of wishing I had a bike lately. I've also been thinking about a gym membership just for the classes!

  18. You've got a great space! My workout space is my bedroom. I mostly do bodyweight workouts and yoga but have some resistance bands, dumbbells, and kettlebells. Vegas is pretty decent for outdoor workouts year round. Well, it might be too hot outside for some in the summer, but it works for me well enough that I don't need to pay for gym.

  19. You have a beautiful home gym! I would love a tour of your house (new kitchen??) - it looks so pretty.

I don't have a home gym, which is fine with me; Planet Fitness is just a few minutes' drive away.

  20. I don't have a home gym or a gym membership! I have hand weights, medicine balls and resistance bands which I use at home and sometimes outside in the summer. And I always have to move furniture around to have enough space!

    Your home gym looks ideal.
