Weekly Wrap...I need shoes.

This week has literally been all about finding shoes. Not, running shoes, but just ordinary dress shoes for work.

At one point, I know that I've had over 100 pairs of shoes. I had a collection that would rival Carrie Bradshaws! And when it came to heels, I was not intimidated. I could wear the high ones.

But when I started running long distances, things changed.  I was wearing a lot of ballet flats ( which along with the zero drop running shoes may have contributed to my long time injury). During the years I was marathon training, I only rotated between 2 pairs of dress shoes (Anne Klein Sport) and a pair of boots. (The rest sat on the shelf and collect dust for 2 years). I did make a mistake and pull out a pair of dress shoes last spring and that made my sesomoiditis flare up so they promptly went to Good Will and I've learned my lesson. I refused to wear any shoe that was slightly uncomfortable in any way.

At the end of last year, after all my long distance races were completed, I decided to pull out a few pairs of those shoes that I haven't worn in a while. Guess what? Every pair was too small.  All of my shoes (except my running shoes) are a size 6.  For some reason I can no longer wear a size 6. I know that running makes your feet swell but can it permanently make you go up in size? I've heard of this thing happening to women after they have children.  Perhaps it's just a sign of aging.

So with that being said, (with the exception of my running shoes and the 2 pair of dress shoes) I am on a mission to start  my shoe collection all over again.  My favorite shoe brands are Anne Klein and A2 by Aerosoles.  I feel these are still a bit stylish for my age yet they are super comfortable.  I currently have 3 pair on order so I'm hoping they'll be a good fit.

I don't usually tell dreams because as I heard a comedian once say "Nobody cares about your dreams because they didn't really happen".  But I'm going to share this one because I thought it was funny AND because it was actually relevant in my life right now, Have you ever had those dreams where you think to yourself "Why in the world would I dream of that"?  Except I know exactly why I had this dream.

I was at the drive thru at J.C Penney (No, our JC Penney does not really have a drive thru), and I ordered a pair of the green and pink Mizuno Wave Riders.  The lady at the drive thru kept telling me that they didn't have those shoes. I kept telling her that I knew they did. I even said " I bought two pair of those shoes here before. I know you have those shoes so stop acting like you don't).

When I woke up from my dream I immediately knew why the lady at the drive thru didn't have those shoes. I was describing the Wave Enigma, not the Wave Rider....lol

So as you can see, the whole shoe thing has taken over my brain this week. -M

Thank you to Holly and Tricia for hosting the Weekly Wrap were we can all link up and share the highlights of our week.

  1. I like hearing about dreams! I share them from time to time on my blog. Last night I dreamed allll night long. Ever have a night like that? The Anne Klein shoes are very stylish and look comfy! I love them. I only wear comfortable shoes to work. I have some crazy high heels that I will only wear on special occassions.

    1. I do usually dream every night but most of them don't make sense or have anything to do with my real life (or maybe on a sub conscience level they do?..lol).

Funny thing, those Anne Klein shoes, I actually ordered them in Navy. I know we talked before about how we won't wear Navy shoes but I seem to be finding myself with a lot of blue in my wardrobe lately!

  2. I love dream arguments - they are always so weird. Hate waking up mad, though, LOL. My feet grew a shoe size after having children, but have stayed the same in the 8 years that I've been running - maybe it IS just a thing that happens as you get older and children have nothing to do with it? I love those shoes you've ordered - and hey, getting to buy all new shoes isn't a bad thing, right? :)

    1. You would think it would be fun but it's getting frustrating!

  3. Haha! SInce I've been taking steroids for my RA, the weird dreams just keep coming! I will be so glad to be done with them, actually.

I'm all about comfortable shoes. My favorite brands are Dansko and Clarks. They have really upped their game as far as fashion goes. But they are still "functional" shoes--not anything Carrie Bradshaw would even consider.

    1. I did find some cute Clark shoes. I haven't looked at dansko cus I thought they were only clogs.

  4. Haha, that dream is pretty funny! It can be so tough to find good shoes to wear to work. I am still struggling with that. Whenever my foot is bothering me I feel like all my shoes besides my running shoes seem to make it worse!

    1. That's why I always seem to wear the same pair of black Anne Klein shoes. They are so comfy.

  5. Now you've got me wondering if the "corporate shoes" I used to wear to work even fit me anymore. Let's not even think about why I have so many pairs of them still hanging around here if I never wear them. Love that dream!

    1. I should have tossed my other shoes right away but i'm not going to until I replace a few pairs. Which doesn't make sense cus it's not like i'm going to wear those shoes anyway!

  6. Oh my gosh, a woman after my own heart! At one time, I too, had over 100 pair of shoes. I could walk (gracefully) all day long in heels without any issues! I'm not sure if it is age or running, but I can no longer do that either. I did work in the medical field for 7 years wear I wore scrubs and dansko clogs then I managed a gym for a year where I wore running shoes everyday ...that is probably what happened, my feet are spoiled :)

Good luck on the quest for the perfect combination of comfort and style ..it's hard to come by in a non running shoe!

    1. You bring up a good point. Perhaps my feet have formed themselves to my comfort shoes over the years!

  7. Find work shoes is SO hard!! I am on my feet a lot so I need comfortable shoes with good support and no pinching in the toes. My work requires closed-toe shoes, too, so it narrows down my choices. I have one Anne Klein Sport pair...maybe I need to look into getting a second!

    1. Ugg:, that's all I seem to find around here is open toe shoes. I even see open toe boots. What's the point of an open toe boot? I'm not a fan.

  8. ha ha on the running shoe dream! I also used to have quite a normal shoe collection but with the PF the last few years they are a no go. The things we have to sacrifice!

  9. I haven't attempted to wear heels in years. I love Alegria shoes, mostly their sandals (lucky I live in the south). I do have one pair of clogs. They have a wonderful foot bed and come recommended by many podiatrists. Your shoe dream is too funny! I think department stores should have drive thrus by the way. Thanks for linking, Meranda!

  10. Cute post!! I actually only have about 2 pair of shoes that I wear that are not running shoes. So I Feel you and I totally think our feet grow with running. I'm a half size bigger!

  11. This made me smile ;-) My PF is pretty much MIA these days, but I try to be careful what I wear when I'm not in running shoes. I have some Dr. Scholl's inserts that I wear with a lot of my non-running shoes to make sure my arches are fully supported.

  12. I'd love a drive thru store. Wouldn't it be a dream if everything that we wanted magically fit too?!?

  13. LOL. I hate almost all of my work shoes. Can we start a new trend of wearing running shoes at the office? Podiatrists would support us, and if our workplace has self-funded healthcare, it could save money in the long run ....

  14. That dream is so funny! I'm surprised I did not dream something similar because I am in search of a new pair of running shoes. Might give the Wave Riders a try! I *try* to keep my shoe collection around 10 pairs nowadays - That was not always the case! And I definitely used to wear heels more than I do now (which is 1-2x/year)!

  15. Ok. I could have written this EXACT post. Before I ran, I wore all kinds of shoes even heels. Then I started running and I am reduced to flats and boots.

Then when I tried on ALL my old shoes, they are too SMALL. All that money wasted.

So now I have to start over but I'm afraid that my feet will grow again.

    It's an age thing, right?

  16. I have a pair of Life Strides, and they are comfy. I don't wear shoes with tall heels anymore, because that messes with my knees. I've always wanted to take care of my feet, so I normally hate dress shoes, or at least closed-toed shoes. I've incredibly picky, and if there's a hint of getting a blister, I'll get rid of the shoes.

  17. Haha, that's such a funny dream! I love Mizunos and run in them - it can be confusing because they have so many Wave's in their titles! Lol

  18. I have a ton of shoes, but since my mileage has increased I seem to mostly wear the same 2 pair of sandals (thankfully I can get away with that in Houston year round). I do have a pair of Sanita Mary Janes that I really like too.

  19. Ah I could so use that closet and yes, I could fill it up with all my shoes. I too use to have no problems wearing high heels! I'm short so I had to have my heels on! Now, I don't really even care anymore!
