Searching for Love on the Run

I don't know about you, but after all the Valentines day treats yesterday I was in need of a run!

I bought a 25 pack of Sour Patch Kid Valentines for my kids at school and after giving one pack to Scott, and only 17 for the kids, guess who ate the rest? Yup, I ate them all at lunch time. BUT in my defense, those packs only hold like 4 or 5, right?

Our secretaries also put out a beautiful valentines spread. It was lovely with chocolates, and cookies, cupcakes, mini red velvet whoopie pies, and so many red and pink goodies. I succumbed to a strawberry and a sweet treat, so yea, I needed that run.

My Valentines day shirt may say "Love 2 Run" but I certainly wasn't feeling it at first.   Before I got to the park, my goal was to run 5 miles. Once I started the first uncomfortable mile, I settled on only getting 3 in.

When I first got to the park, I saw the K-9 search unit vehicles there. I first saw them at the park a few weeks ago and they had the dogs out. I was a bit concerned and wondered if I should be running on the trail or if I would be disturbing the dogs as they worked. Turns out the dogs were just training. Thank goodness no one was lost!  This time When I saw them all out, I asked if they were training as I ran by, and they were.  I met a search and rescue retriever named Honey! There were actually a lot of dogs at the park that day in addition to all the search and rescue dogs.

Okay, getting back to the run...... I did a lot of inclines running up and down the bridge. I figured that would half make-up for the low mileage.  By the time I hit my goal of 3 miles, I was still on the bridge so since I was feeling better by now, I figured I 'd just run it on out until I did 4 miles. No sense in stopping at 3 and then having to walk back to my car!

Do you ever bargain with yourself on mileage while on a run? -M

  1. I sure do! Sometimes when a run is really tough, I reset my goal for the run and bargain with myself to get there...

  3. I constantly bargain with myself. Especially during the early miles. Once I get to that point I am usually good to go further.

  5. I bargain with myself on mileage all the time! I'm usually like, do 1 more mile and then see how you feel. Generally, I get to that point and I know I can keep going. The mental tricks we play are definitely interesting.

  7. I bargain with myself all of the time, especially if it is a difficult run. You have to motivate yourself to finish it somehow!

    1. It's not the finish I worry about its the "continuing to run"..lol. There's plenty of times I thought about walking to the finish!

  8. All the time...so much that when I have a particular distance scheduled, and I am not feeling it, I have my husband drive me to a location that far away from home. Then I really only have one choice to get home - even if it means walking!

  9. I love your shirt!

I negotiate with myself all the time! I went to the gym and had 5 miles in my head, and when I got to 1, I though about only doing 3 miles. After the 3 were done, I told myself to just finished what I came in for!

    1. It's funny cus sometimes I am so determined to do the mileage I came to do and then sometimes I make excuses to cut it short!

  10. Haha, I bargain with myself (and sometimes with my running buddies) all the time! I think that's just what runners do.

  11. Some days I do. Days like yesterday I can't even get myself to want to bargain. If I can, I'll start with two, and if I'm feeling good, I'll make 2.5, then 3. I always try to do 2 and see how I feel.

    1. That's smart to see how you feel before committing to a distance.

  13. Oh man, I love Sour Patch Kids! I don't know if any would have survived long ago enough to go to the kids, if I bought them.

  14. Sometimes bargaining is necessary. Glad you were able to get in your run! It always feels good to move after a day of indulging a bit too much.

  15. I definitely make deals on miles! I wanted 7 last weekend, but my usual loop is 5.5. I extended it to 6.5....and then I sucked it up and got the 7. I volunteered at the 5th grade kids' party. Talk about a food/swag fest!
