Disney's Fort Wilderness is my favorite Disney resort that I've never stayed at!
I say this because I've never actually spent the night here, but I have spent many of days here. This is one of those resorts that could seriously fill up an entire day in exchange for a park day.
This is how we spent our time here.
If you are not staying at Fort Wilderness, you'll have to make your way to one of the theme parks, and then take transportation from there.
We were staying at Disney's Contemporary resort. This resort has a boat launch that goes to Fort Wilderness and Wilderness Lodge. There is a schedule posted at the dock so you know what time the boats will be leaving. They depart several times throughout the day. I believe we left around 3:00 pm.
When we got off at the boat dock, we did take an internal bus to the section we wanted to be in. Fort Wilderness is very large, so the internal buses are key.
The first thing we did was visit Tri Circle D Ranch. This place has gone through a great transformation over the last several years.
There were cast members here that let us explore the stables. This is where they keep all the ponies and horses that are used throughout the parks and resorts. Yes, we even got to pet them. Entrance to the ranch is free and you can learn more about it in this post HERE.
This is a dinner show located in Pioneer Hall. This is like the "gem" of Fort Wilderness. We had tickets for the 4:00pm dinner and show so we checked in a few minutes ahead of time.
Can you believe this show has been running for more than 50 years? You can read and see more about our fabulous time at the Hoop Dee Doo HERE!
The dinner and show take about 2 hours, so it was around 6:00 pm at this time. After the show, we took some time to sit out on the covered porch of Crocket's Tavern and Lacey had a glass of wine.
We enjoyed watching the horse drawn carriage go by. Carriage rides are typically offered each evening starting around 5:30 pm. Carriage rides are an additional cost but look like so much fun. We'll have to put this on our list for our next visit.
Before leaving this area of the resort, we saw the cast of the Hoop Dee Doo getting ready to go in for their second show of the evening. They stopped to chat with us and even took this fun photo!
Our last event of the evening here at Fort Wilderness was the campfire and sing a long with Chip and Dale. This started around 7:00pm.
This was a fun event where guests get to interact with cast members and of course Chip and Dale. We did not stay for the entire program, but the highlight of our time here was playing charades with Chip and Dale.
They called for audience participation and since so few guests wanted to participate, my sister and I thought we would give it a try! There was going to be a campfire and maybe some music or a movie afterwards but we did not stay for that as we wanted to get back to the Contemporary and watch the Magic Kingdom Fireworks at 9:00 pm.
So that wrapped up our evening at Disney's Fort Wilderness. We made our way back to the boat dock to go back to our resort. This is a great way to spend some time outside of the parks and there is even a lot more to do here at Fort Wilderness than what we just did on this one evening. On another one of our visits, we spent the morning canoeing and fishing. You can see and read all about those experiences in the links below.
Till next time~ M and L
