Dinner at Lumiere's on the Disney Magic

Lumiere's was the last restaurant on our dinning rotation on our Disney cruise.

We actually got to go into Lumiere's and look around on the very first day. Shortly after we boarded the ship, we walked around and peeked in all the dining rooms.

As soon as I saw the Beauty and the Beast mural on the wall, I was impressed. I had high hopes for this restaurant.

Up until this point, we have had dinner in Animator’s Palate, which was so fun, and we ate at Rapunzel's Royal Table twice ( the second time was for Pirate night). Both restaurants had a great theme, good food, and fun entertainment.

When we got to Lumiere's,  we just felt as if something was missing.

The rest of the dining room looked as if it could be any other dining room on any other cruise ship. It was very nice, but we didn't notice the Lumiere ( or Beauty and the Beast theme) carried out.

Shortly after we were seated, our waiter came over with menus.  At this point, I was still looking around the room for those "Disney details" that would tie the theme of this dining room together, but I just couldn't see any. Maybe they were there, but I missed them.  The rose on the menu was a nice touch.

Lumiere's dinner menu

Our menu for appetizers, soups, and salads. The menu had a bit of a French theme, as you can see from what we ordered.

Sticking with the French theme, I ordered the French Onion soup, which I remember being pretty good.

Lacey ordered this iced lobster and jumbo shrimp dish with asparagus, horseradish, and dill sauce.

And of course sticking with the French theme, she ordered some escargot.

And some deep fried brie with orange and cranberry chutney.

For her entree, my sister ordered the pasta dish with shrimp. I guess we forget to get a picture of that, but I remember there being an issue with that. Maybe it didn't have enough sauce, or shrimp, or something.

For my entree, I ordered the beef filet with potatoes and green beans. I remember it being fine. However, it must not have been memorable, because I honestly didn't even remember what I ordered when I started this blog post. I had to look into my archive of photos from the cruise.

I don't remember us ordering dessert, so there are no pictures of that. I do remember us leaving dinner early because we wanted to go out on the deck and get some picture of the sunset since we hadn't been able to do that yet the entire cruise ( because it always set while we were at dinner).

So the reason I say we thought this restaurant was missing something, is because it had so much potential but it just fell flat.

There was no entertainment here. They could have had Belle, or other characters walk around. They could have had the "Beauty and the Beast" soundtrack playing in the background, or better yet, someone walking around playing French music, like on a violin.  The "Grey stuff" could have been an option for dessert, and even a "Lefou"s Brew" could have been a drink option.  I do realize that this restaurant was not made to imitate "Be our Guest" at Magic Kingdom, but there could have been a bit more Disney "magic" shown here in an upscale way.

Be sure to check out our other dining posts from our time on the Disney Magic Cruise ship.

Till next time ~ M and L
