We got the most beautiful room at Disney's Grand Floridian Resort

Fairytales and Fitness Disney Blog

Staying at Disney's Grand Floridian Resort and Spa is always a treat! We visit this resort often but I haven't stayed overnight here since the week of my first wedding anniversary,  and that was a long time ago.  A lot has changed since then.

The exterior of the buildings have always remained the same, but let's take a look at what the rooms looked like back then.

We were in Conche Key building. This is the one that is in front of the marina.

We were in room 7318  and we did have a Theme Park view ( slightly). We could certainly hear the boats going past at all hours ( which we did not mind at all) and we could hear the opening music in the morning from Magic Kingdom.  I do recall even seeing some smoke/fireworks from the little fireworks they would do during the stage show in the mornings.

Now let's take a look at the room.

It may seem a little "tacky" by today's standards, but I loved it! I think this was considered an "Alice in Wonderland" room.

When they did a refurbishment of the rooms, I was able to purchase one of the queen size bedspreads, dust ruffles, and pillow case sets. It is not the one shown here, it is more of a pink and green floral but it of course has hidden Mickeys on it.

Oh, we can't forget to show what the bathrooms looked like back then.

I still think these bathrooms are nice and elegant, even today.

Grand Floridian of the past, I will miss you, but you've aged well!

Let's fast forward to after the refurbishments.
During this visit, we were in the Big Pine Key building. This was actually a DVC ( Disney Vacation Club) building, and we had a deluxe studio room.

This is the beautiful lobby as we enter the building. We were on the third floor, room 9333.  Let's check it out!

As soon as we walked in, we were in an entry way. We had this lovely vanity stand with mirror on the right and the bathroom was on the left.

Another view of the hallway leading into the room.

The bathroom is separated into 2 sections with a sliding door. The vanity area has double sinks and a backlit mirror. There was plenty of room for my sister and I to have all our "getting ready" things on the counter and enough room for us both to get ready at the same time.

The bathroom section has the toilet and bathtub/shower combo.

Now for the living space.
There is a small station here that holds a microwave, a small coffee pot, and a refrigerator/cooler.

Prior to staying here, I would have claimed our room at the Boardwalk Inn, the most beautiful room we've stayed in on Disney property, but now I've changed my mind.

This room definitely did not lack on storage. There is a full set of dresser drawers below the television.

This wall is all closets! There are ironing supplies as well as a safe housed in here. The hair dryer is also in this closet. I thought it would have been stored in the bathroom, but no, it's in the closet. I'm glad that I looked in here.

Between the beds is a night stand with more drawers. On the side of each bed is a tiny night side shelf large enough to hold a glass of water and your phone or another chargeable device. Of course there are outlets next to the shelf.  The are reading lights on the side of each bed, which I thought was a nice touch.

The room has two queen size beds which were very comfortable. Take note of the beautiful rug! The flooring is another big change. The old Grand Floridian rooms all had carpet. Most if not all rooms now have the hard surface floors. Disney has been putting in hard surface floors in all the resorts as they remodel. I don't recall any of the other ones having a rug though.

There is also a sofa that pulls out to a double bed for even more sleeping space.  It was just my sister and I staying in this room, so we had plenty of space as it was.

All the rooms at the Grand Floridian have balconies, but they vary in size and of course the view. Our balcony was pretty large ( not as large as the one we had at the boardwalk), but more room than we actually needed.  I wish we would have been able to spend more time out here on this lovely balcony, but as in any Disney trip, we just had too much to do!

Our view overlooked the Seven Seas Lagoon. We had a view of another Grand Floridian building, the Disney wedding chapel, and even the Polynesian resort.

Disney Tip: You can of course see Magic Kingdom fireworks from the Grand Floridian resort, but you can not see them from the building we were in, Big Pine Key. A cast member told us that we could see them if we sit outside our building, so that's what we did. We were not seeing anything, so we decided to give up and go over to Gasparilla Grill, the resorts quick service restaurant and low and behold everyone was sitting outside the restaurant, and near the marina, watching the fireworks show. It would have been a lovely view from there and I'm sorry we only caught the last firework that went off! It would have been nice to see the show from our resort, since that is of course one of the perks of staying here, but we've seen the show already anyway so it wasn't a big deal that we missed it.

Stayed tuned because we plan to put together a Guide to the Grand Floridian, sharing our story about all the things we were able to experience at the Grand Floridian, including all the restaurants.

In the mean time, please enjoy these other blog posts about the Grand Floridian.

Till next time! ~ M and L
