We recently had a stay at Disney's Polynesian resort and one of the things I knew I wanted to do was to visit the new DVC Tower and its newest restaurant, Wailulu Bar and Grill. The new building at the Polynesian Resort is called "Island Tower" and it is a DVC building ( Disney Vacation Club). On the bottom level of the tower is a restaurant, called "Wailulu Bar and Grill". Any guests can dine here, you don't have to be a DVC member.
Side note: When the announcement was made that Luau Cove was going to be the site of a new DVC resort, I initially thought the tower might feel cramped in that location and it would look out of place. In reality, Disney did a fantastic job, like it always does, and the tower looks like it has always been a part of Disney's Polynesian resort right from the start.
It was so lovely to finally see in person!
The word "Wai" is Hawaiian for water and the word "lulu" is Hawaiian for calm. It is fitting that the restaurant sits along the Seven Seas Lagoon.
There are no reservations required for this restaurant. In fact, we just walked right up and were seated immediately. The restaurant is open air, but it is covered. Like Disney stated on it's website, it does feel like a "tropical getaway".
We chose to sit outside so we could take in this view.
We sat at this "patio set". The chairs are comfy but the table is a little lower than what a regular dinning table would be. We knew this, but we wanted to sit here anyway so we could look out the "window". I love to just "people watch", so this was the perfect spot for us.
There are also traditional tables and chairs here as well.Soon the waiter came around to take our order. He was an older gentleman and was very friendly! There were several things on the menu we would have been happy to try.
I'm so glad I ordered this. The chicken was very flavorful and this little meal was actually very filling.
They do serve dessert here, including a Dole Whip Sundae, that sounded appealing, but we were satisfied with as much food as we had so we passed.
You can check out the full menu HERE.
We really liked the atmosphere here and would consider this a great place to go for just appetizers, drinks or just dessert, if you didn't want to eat a full meal here.
After dinner we did a little shopping in the gift shops and then took our time walking back to our room. We later watched the "Happily Ever After" fireworks from right outside our building.
