It's been a while since we've stayed at Port Orleans French Quarter ( like over a decade), so we thought it was time to check it out again. We remembered liking this resort last time we stayed here and knew the rooms had been renovated since then.
The resort buildings are in the "Italiante" style, just like the buildings you would find in the Big Easy!
Let's take a what the rooms use to look like.
They definitely had some character.
Here is the updated room.
A separate vanity and shower/toilet area.
H20+ shower items in the shower.
I've said in the past that the updates Disney is doing is really striping the resort rooms from their unique style, but I think this room maintained it.
The main eatery at Port Orleans French Quarter is the Sassagoula Float Works and Food Factory.
This is a quick service location that has the most variety of food at this resort. It is themed after a warehouse that stores Mardi Gras floats!
Scat Cat's Club Lounge serves a limited menu during the hours of 5-10 pm. Here you can get things like chicken wings, fritters, sliders, etc. You can find specialty cocktails here as well as live music!
The Scat Cat Club Cafe, located right in front of the lounge serves the famous Mickey shaped beignets and beignet sundaes.
Mardi Grogs is the pool bar. It has a limited menu of sandwiches and salads. It serves cocktails as well as non-alcoholic beverages, such a smoothies!
The shopping here is done at Jackson Square. This is the only gift shop. Souvenirs and limited pantry items can be found here.
I like to collect the pressed pennies and I was a bit disappointed to find the pressed penny machine was not working during our stay.
1. The Size. With it being a small resort, every building is close to the pool, the food court, and bus stop.
2. Boat Transportation.
Whether or not you chose to visit Disney Springs during your stay, you should take a boat ride at least once. It's a charming ride that takes you round trip to Disney Springs.
3. Walking Distance to Port Orleans Riverside.
French Quarter is small, but you can expand your dining, shopping, and recreation options by walking across the bridge to Port Orleans Riverside. We walked to Riverside one afternoon for lunch and were even surprised with some character sightings!
A few years ago we did one of the resort races here called the Beignet Dash and it was a lot of fun. You can read about that HERE.
4. The theming. The New Orleans/ Mardi Gras theme is really evident throughout the resort. The style of the buildings has that New Orleans flare, as does the details at the pool. The food court is even designed after a warehouse that stores Mardi Gras floats. There is a Scat Cat lounge that even has live Jazz music in the evenings.
5. Port Orleans French Quarter is the only place on property that serves Mickey shaped beignets!
If you like beignets, this is definitely a perk, and so fitting that it goes with the theme here!
I think some of this has to do with being along the water.
Even if you don't have a view that faces the water, there are fountains around the resort that make it just as peaceful. It's such a "picturesque" resort! Some things that could be considered a downside of staying at this resort.
1. Transportation- There is that boat to Disney Springs, but you would have to rely on Disney bus transportation to all the theme parks.
2. There is not a Table Service restaurant at this resort. But remember, you are walking distance to Port Orleans Riverside and there is a restaurant there.
The pool at night!
3. There is only one swimming pool. There is a water slide but it is not as impressive as some of the slides at the other resorts. This of course does not bother us because we rarely spend a lot of time at resort pools.
For us, the pros of the resort definitely out way the cons. Port Orleans French Quarter is a moderate resort that is budget friendly. We definitely think there is value in staying here.

This makes me want to stay at a Disney Resort next time or at the very least take some time to tour some the resorts. They look so fun and I love that most of them are over the top. I really would enjoy this theme.
