Currently...Fall Edition and Runfessions

Oh my Gosh, we are wrapping up on October, how is that even happening?  With everything going on, I've remained positive and am going to be thankful for what October has brought me. So here are some Current  Fall Confessions/Runfession from October....

I'm also going to play along with Marcia for her October Runfessions!

1. I Runfess that I have been loving these fall runs. I've been loving the colors, the crunch of the leaves, and even the smell. Yes, fall has it's own smell!

2. I Runfess that I am also so proud of my Willow ( My 10 month Golden Retriever) for being able to jog with me. Yes, I say jog, because I do not  "Run" with her. I don't want her going too fast because she is still a puppy and still growing and to be honest, I don't think I will ever really "Run" with her because I fear long term damage to her joints.  I do Runfess that her "jog" speed is good enough for me!

3. I Runfess that as much as I love jogging with Willow, I miss my solo runs where I can pick up some speed and increase my mileage, but the Dog mom guilt is strong when I leave without her.

4. I Runfess that I check our local race page often and even last week the local Turkey Trot and Elf Run were still slated to happen on their respective dates.  The Elf Run had all the updated info on their site, but the registration page said it was not available.  I contacted the race director to see if the race was really happening, or if they were going to wait until a certain date to decided.  The race director got back to me and said the race was cancelled! It was nice to have that confirmed now instead of waiting till December and wonder but geeze, why don't they show the cancellation on their website.  I did not contact anyone about the Turkey Trot but the info is updated and their registration page seems to be working. I still think it might be risky to sign up yet.

5. And lastly, I Runfess that as much as I have enjoyed running in this beautiful fall weather, I'm kind of looking forward to some treadmill runs.  Now I will also Runfess that my treadmill runs are not determined by weather ( I will run in all weather, with in reason), but they are determined by time. It takes less time for me to run on the treadmill. I call it my "lazy" run.  And with the days soon to get shorter, I know I'm going to want to come home from work and just stay home with my dogs.  I hope I can keep my motivation to get outside, but if not, I am happy with the mill!

Do you run with your dog? If so, do you have any tips I should know?  Do you have any local races you are waiting on to see if they take place?  -M

  1. I runfess that I'm really missing the tank/shorts weather! I was re-reading last month's Runfessions post, and I'm in "summer" gear in most of my pics LOL I agree, Fall definitely has its own distinct smell. Unfortunately, we haven't had much of a Fall season in Iowa...

    1. I've been able to wear my tanks and shorts all of October but I have a feeling the pants and long sleeves are going to have to come out in November!

  2. I have really been enjoying fall this year! The trees have been hanging onto their leaves longer than usual and the colors have been gorgeous. It's been a little chilly lately, but other than that I have no complaints.

    1. I am so glad that I like to run and walk so I can have my time on the trail with all the beautiful trees this time of year!

  3. Our Turkey Trot is scheduled to be live! The second I found out, I registered. Yes, there's a chance it could be cancelled, but I felt like $25 is worth the risk. I had to run on the TM yesterday because it was just too cold & rainy outside and I runfess that I really didn't mind the excuse to catch up on some TV. Thanks to WFH I've been able to keep running outside, but once it gets cold I'll be on TM for most of the winter.

    1. Thanks Deborah! I really am impressed with how well she has taken to jogging and spending time with me on the trail!

  5. I run with Scooby, but he trots along at a jog pace for him. You are smart to be cautious and keep your pace and distance short with Willow. I have been loving fall running and hope it sticks around for a few more weeks.

    1. Yes, I'll take fall for a few more weeks. I'm never ready for winter.

  6. Our fall has been gorgeous and I get out on the trails daily. I run intervals with Ozzy. I have to monitor him because he'd be happy to run too fast and too long then be near collapse. So we walk/run intervals and only a couple of miles. I'm sure WIllow could handle more but I feel you. Why risk future issues? She's SO cute on that treadmill! Thanks for linking!

    1. The longest I've ever gone with her was 3 miles, but she did not run the entire time. I am wondering how far it would be okay to take her if we just walked?

  7. I love fall! It's my favorite. It's so pretty here right now. I also miss my treadmill runs - I like pushing myself with intervals and as much as I try, I really don't do it outside unless I'm with a faster friend. There is one in the small gym my building that I can reserve so I'm going to do that once or twice a week this winter to speed things up!

    1. Although running outside is much pretty, Treadmills sometimes save the day, especially during the winter!

  8. Fall running is the best, isn't it?

Willow is so cute! I think you're smart to bring her along slowly and not push the pace.

    1. Thanks Michelle! This is all so new to her but she has definitely impressed me!

  9. Don't have a dog but wish I did have one for company on the run.

I don't have a treadmill or access to one but it's ok because i HATE it.

I do want a spin bike for those awful days when it's not safe to go out and run or a rest day.

Now that they raised the $$ for Peleton, I'm not sure.

  10. I don't run with Bandit anymore but my biggest tip would be to get a hands free leash! It was a real game changer for me. I never really did like running with him. Maybe if I'd been able to train him from a puppy rather than inheriting him at 8 years old.

I agree that treadmill runs take less time. And sometimes that's why I do them too. But sometimes it's definitely weather!

    1. I have always been afraid to use one of those hand free leashes. I worry that if she saw a rabbit or something that she would start running after it and pull me along with her. I admit I don't know much about those leashes but it scares me to give up having "control"...lol

  11. I run quite a bit with Ruth, who is now about 1.5 years old, but our vet did say to wait until she was a year, or full grown, to prevent joint issues. But she's a great runner! I've only done about 4-5 miles so far, but plan to build up. Matilda used to do 10-13 milers with no problem!

Jealous of your weather. Totally agree that treadmill runs often happen just because they are efficient!

  12. I love you have a running buddy.
Dog mom guilt is SOOOO a thing!!!!
Fall definitely has its own smell - I love it - bottle it up!
Good for that race making the call now! We're already getting notices for the Ky Derby Marathon/half marathon in April that it may not happen.

    1. I certainly love the company, even if it is only for short runs!
WOW, that is scary that they are thinking of cancelling events that are already scheduled for April 2021! When is this going to end????

  13. Despite my blog name, pugs don't really run. Luna will trot with us, but she's crazy and has tons of energy.

We have one turkey trot going down, and I think I am signing up for a Sandy Clause 10K in December. We will see.

    1. I hope you get to do those races! It's always a bummer when the Holiday races get cancelled.

  14. I think race directors should update their webpages as soon as a race is canceled. To allow runners to sigh up and pay registration fees for a canceled race is not really ethical, as far as I'm concerned. Then you have to make the decision - virtual option, defer to next year, make your fee a donation...ugh!

  15. Yea, I'm not signing up for any races for the rest of the year. If one IS going to happen, I'll wait until the day of to register ( if that is an option).

  16. Willow is absolutely beautiful. I too would have Dog Mom Guilt if I left that sweet face home! I'm not looking forward to the shorter days...I love the long summer days...but I am kind of looking forward to the weather and humidity going away for a bit here in Florida. Happy Running!

  17. I used to LOVE running with my sweet Maddie and she loved it, too! Now that she's older, we stick to walks and she's 100% ok with that. In the beginning though, running truly helped with her hyper-ness and helped her calm down a bit!
